Abstract:Cylindrically polarized vortex beams generated by subwavelength concentric Al metallic gratings are studied in numerical simulations and experiments. The simulation results show the performances of Al subwavelength metallic gratings as polarizing beamsplitters in the visible light band are better than those of the generally used Au and Ag subwavelength metallic gratings. A subwavelength concentric Al metallic grating with a period of 200 nm and an etched depth of 100 nm is fabricated using e-beam lithography and RIE etching technology. Next, the intensity and polarization distributions of the generated beam are measured at three visible wavelengths 488, 532 and 633 nm, which show a good performance of polarization purities beyond 93% and total energy transmission efficiencies beyond 32%. In addition, the focused field intensity distributions of the generated beam are also measured based on a confocal microscopy system, which also confirms the existence of the spiral geometrical phase and the influence of the geometrical phase on focused fields.
