Abstract:Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), thiacalix[4]-arenetetrasulfonate (TCAS), citric acid (CA) and oxalic acid (OA) were employed as chelating agents in batch experiments to investigate the effectiveness and the coupled soil dissolution issues during washing of soil artificially contaminated with cadmium. Results showed that TCAS and EDTA quantitatively enchanced Cd and the extraction effectiveness varied with pH. Cd extraction efficiency of EDTA and TCAS was 62.22% and 60.79% at pH 7.0, 94.02% and 86.35 at pH 11.0, respectively. 0.5mmol L-1 The order of the extraction efficiency was EDTA >; TCAS >; CA>;OA at both pH 7.0 and pH 11.0, although the extraction efficiency of TCAS was much closer to that of EDTA at pH 7.0. EDTA quantitatively increased k, Ca, and Mn dissolution at both pH 7.0 and pH 11.0 attributed to the high stability constant for their complexations. It should be foremost remarked that TCAS did not significantly enchanced all tested metal ions dissolution.
