Over the past several decades, harmful algal bloom has become a ubiquitous pollution problem in most main lakes of our country. Using microbiologic method to curb harmful algae has been the research hotspot in water bloom control in recent years. Algicidal bacteria have attracted wide attention as possible agents for inhibiting algal water blooms. In this study, two algicidal bacteria strains with dissolving capacity for Scenedesmus were isolated from the water sample collected from eutrophic lake. The results demonstrated that the two bacterial strains gave lethal effects on Scenedesmus by means of direct mode, and the optimal lytic effect appeared when the bacteria were in logarithmic phase. Furthermore, the greater the initial bacterial cell density, the faster the degradation of chlorophyll-a. The lytic effect of mixed strains excelled that of any single strains. As stated above, it's certain that algicidal bacteria have a huge potential and prospect in controlling breakout of water bloom.
