Abstract:Recent studies have demonstrated that pre-mRNA splicing is initiated during gene transcription. The cross-talk between chromatin organization and mRNA splicing has also been analyzed. But it is not clear whether chromatin organization is related with different types of splicing events. We previously investigated the length distribution of exons and flanking introns, nucleosome occupancy and histone modification in different types of splicing exons. Our data suggests that short exons with short flanking introns have a tendency to be more frequently retained as constitutive exons. Nucleosome positioning around exon is more likely to improve exons inclusion and splicing efficiency. Different histone modifications were also found in constitutive and alternative exons, suggesting a special role in alternative splicing. © 2011 IEEE.
