Abstract:Proposed is a novel algorithm to design binary orthogonal code for MIMO radar. On the premise of maintaining the orthogonality of each code, we can obtain the binary code set with a lower autocorrelation sidelobe peak (ASP) and cross-correlation peak (CP). Simulation results show that the algorithm is effective.

Abstract:Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) radar can effectively improve radar performance by transmitting specially designed orthogonal signals. A novel algorithm is presented to design binary orthogonal code for MIMO radar system. The proposed algorithm employs the Walsh function to maintain the orthogonal property of signals. The binary orthogonal code set is obtained by executing synchronal random exchange in column and random selection from rows to coding template, with using Genetic Algorithm (GA) for optimization. The simulation results show that the algorithm is feasible.

Abstract:Orthogonal signals are usually required to be transmitted for Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) radar. A new set of polyphase codes is obtained with very low aperiodic autocorrelation sidelobe and cross-correlation levels, as well as good Doppler shift resilience. An Adaptive Clonal Selection (ACS) algorithm is proposed to optimize the codes, on which Doppler shifts are imposed. Abstract:Waveform optimization for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar systems for good autocorrelation and crosscorrelation properties based on the direct design of the set of orthogonal transmitted time series is considered. Exploiting the orthogonality of non identical walsh functions, which have been used successfully in spread spectrum communication, the Walsh-Hadamard matrix is used as the orthogonal binary signal set followed by the simulated annealing statistical optimization tool to provide an optimal orthogonal binary signal set with the desired correlation properties.

Abstract:Based on space-borne multiple-input single-output radar systems, a novel orthogonal bi-phase coding waveform optimization design method is presented. However, it is impossible to design a set of codes with ideal impulsive autocorrelation and idea zero cross-correlation performances. Hence, only the shape of its main-lobe and side-lobe near the detected range cell is considered as the optimization criteria. The aperiodic correlation properties are discussed. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is effective and feasible.

Abstract:Multi-input–multi-output (MIMO) radar can fundamentally improve radar performance by using diversity technique. A group of specially designed signals, which usually are orthogonal, are required to be transmitted for MIMO radar obtaining excellent diversity performance. Although some well orthogonal codes have been provided, they are mostly Doppler sensitive, and their side-lobes level also need to be improved. In this study, the poly-phase codes model is presented and the optimisation problem is then analysed. An adaptive clonal selection algorithm is proposed to numerically optimise such poly-phase coded orthogonal signals. To obtain low level of aperiodic autocorrelation side lobe and cross correlation as well as good Doppler shift tolerance, sustainable Doppler shifts are introduced into the optimisation course. Numerical simulation results show the superior correlation and Doppler tolerance performances comparing with some well known codes.

Abstract:Based on the good autocorrelation and random property of chaotic sequences, a method was proposed to design a polyphase orthogonal code for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar. Chaotic waveforms could be generated by quantifying and polyphase-coding chaotic sequences from different initial values. Auto-correlation sidelobes of different chaotic waveforms were uncorrelated, so that the mainlobe-to-sidelobe ratio was improved under the pulse system which increased the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) by using the pulse coherent integration. Finally, the simulation results showed that the output of the Doppler channel where the target was located had a good mainlobe-to-sidelobe ratio.

Abstract:The integration of both sensing and communication functions is a crucial feature for future communication systems. This paper considers a novel scenario where a radar covers multiple small-cell base stations (BSs) which operate in different spectra. We propose a co-existence system of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar and multiple-input single-output (MISO) communication systems. We aim to minimize the system transmit power while maintaining the performance of both radar and communication. Due to the complexity of the original problem, we traverse the BS selection and transform the subproblem into a more tractable one by introducing auxiliary variables and propose a penalty dual decomposition (PDD)-based algorithm to solve it. In the inner loop, we propose a concave-convex procedure (CCCP)-based algorithm to deal with the optimization problem, and the block coordinate descent (BCD) algorithm is utilized to update the variables. In the outer loop, we update the penalty term or Lagrange multipliers. Finally, numerical simulations validate the superiority of our proposed algorithm over benchmark algorithms.

Abstract:Distributed Multiple-input Multiple-output radar has been intensively studied recently and an important issue is to design orthogonal phase coded waveforms. In this paper, we firstly design orthogonal phase coded waveforms with expanded mainlobe width, and the criterion is to minimize autocorrelation peak sidelobe levels (APSL) and peak cross correlation levels (PCCL) of the orthogonal waveforms, and to match a desirable mainlobe. Then, to further suppress the APSL and PCCL, a method to design mismatched filters is raised, which can be solved by the convex optimization algorithm. Numerical results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:A new method is proposed to design orthogonal waveform set for MIMO radar based on hybrid Linear Frequency Modulation(LFM)and phase code waveform. Comparing the new waveform with the conventional phase code, it has some merits such as the wide bandwidth and being realized in practice. The optimization model of MIMO orthogonal waveform set is formulated and is resolved by genetic algorithm. The optimized waveform set has low cross correlation and autocorrelation side lobe. Simulation experiments verify the correctness of theory analysis and validity of optimization method.

Abstract:A constrained nonlinear programming method is proposed for designing orthogonal waveforms applied to multiple input multiple output(MIMO) radar systems.The designed orthogonal waveforms are phase-coded signals with a uniform amplitude and arbitrary phases.The optimal orthogonal waveforms have lower auto-correlation peak sidelobe levels(APSL) and lower peak cross-correlation levels(PCCL),compared with those of other methods.Addationally,the relationships among APSL,PCCL and the size of the orthogonal waveforms are studied via numerical experiments.

Abstract:In view of the traditional genetic algorithm easily fall into local optimum in the late iterations, this paper puts forward an improved chaos genetic algorithm coded orthogonal signal design method which combines the chaos theory and genetic algorithm for MIMO radar. In order to prevent and overcome the 'premature' phenomenon in the process of optimization, the traversal features of the chaos optimization is introduced to the genetic algorithm, which reduces the autocorrelation peak side lobe and cross-correlation peak. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is feasible and effective. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Abstract:A modified Genetic Algorithm (GA) is proposed to numerically design orthogonal discrete frequency-coding waveforms (DFCWs) which have good aperiodic autocorrelation and cross-correlation properties for orthogonal multiple input multiple output (MIMO) radar. Some of the designed results are presented, and their correlation properties are better than other known in the literature. The effect of Doppler frequency shift on the performance of these signals and ambiguity function are investigated. The simulation results and comparisons show that the proposed algorithm is more effective for the design of DFCWs with superior aperiodic correlation.

Abstract:Multi-input multi-output (MIMO) radar which has evident advantages in many applications is a new radar system. Applying the MIMO technique to the earth observing synthetic aperture radar (SAR) system offers effective ways for the improvement of high resolution and wide swath imaging and ground moving target indication (GMTI) systems. Designing the optimal orthogonal waveform is a crucial problem in the research on MIMO radar. First, the index definition of synthetic integrated side-lobe level ratio (ISLR) is proposed by focusing on the SAR application and considering the cross-correlation energy influences between orthogonal coding signals with the same frequency band. Second, it is theoretically demonstrated that the performance of synthetic ISLR of orthogonal coding signals with the same frequency band cannot meet the demands of SAR imaging, which has been proved by one-dimensional numerical simulation. Third, it has been shown through numerical simulation that the performance of synthetic ISLR of orthogonal coding signals still cannot be improved by dealing with the mismatched filtering. Finally, a set of orthogonal phase coding signals are designed for multiple MIMO-SAR antennas. The conclusions are verified through MIMO-SAR imaging and InSAR simulation experiments.

Abstract:Digital radio frequency memory (DRFM) has emerged as an advanced technique to achieve a range of jamming signals, due to its capability to intercept waveforms within a short time. multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radars can transmit agile orthogonal waveform sets for different pulses to combat DRFM-based jamming, where any two groups of waveform sets are also orthogonal. In this article, a group orthogonal waveform optimal design model is formulated in order to combat DRFM-based jamming by flexibly designing waveforms for MIMO radars. Aiming at balancing the intra- and intergroup orthogonal performances, the objective function is defined as the weighted sum of the intra- and intergroup orthogonal performance metrics. To solve the formulated model, in this article, a group orthogonal waveform design algorithm is proposed. Based on a primal-dual-type method and proper relaxations, the proposed algorithm transforms the original problem into a series of simple subproblems. Numerical results demonstrate that the obtained group orthogonal waveforms have the ability to flexibly suppress DRFM-based deceptive jamming, which is not achievable using p-majorization–minimization (p-MM) and primal-dual, two of the most advanced orthogonal waveform design algorithms.

Optimising Chaotic Phase Coded Waveforms for MIMO Radar

Abstract:To avoid mutual interferences and detection confusion, orthogonal waveforms are usually employed for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar. In this paper, we apply chaos to design orthogonal waveforms for MIMO radar. Chaotic phase coded waveforms are generated, which are further optimised for obtaining good correlation performance of low sidelobe level. A sidelobe suppression method with complementary transmitting is introduced. The clonal selection algorithm is imposed to obtain the corresponding complementary coding waveforms. Correlation performance are compared with transmitting single chaotic phase coded signals and shown to be superior. Simulations based on biphase coded signals verify this method. (4 pages)

Abstract:This paper investigates the design of constant modulus waveforms with low auto- and cross-correlation sidelobes for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar. Unlike existing methods which indirectly solve an "almost equivalent" problem to the original one, we propose a new method to directly deal with the problem. Specifically, in the proposed algorithm, the fourth order problem is first converted into a bi-quadratic problem via introducing an auxiliary primal variable, and then a primal-dual framework, named as "nonlinear alternating direction method of multipliers (nonlinear-ADMM)", is derived to handle the modified problem. Moreover, the solution of each primitive variable can be computed efficiently. Numerical simulations are carried out to assess the performance of the proposed algorithm in terms of the WISL metric, auto- and cross- correlation properties and computational complexity.

Abstract:Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) radar can efficiently improve radar performance by transmitting specific orthogonal waveforms. A novel multi-pulse waveforms design is proposed for MIMO radar in this paper. The polyphase complementary sequences are used as spatial codes and then combined with circulating linear frequency modulated (LFM) signals to enhance range resolution in this method. Both analyses and results show that the designed waveform has better performance than the conventional signals in suppressing sidelobes and range resolution.

Abstract:For multi-input multi-output (MIMO) radar system, the orthogonal waveform set plays important rule to the system's performance. This paper considers the design problem of orthogonal phase-modulated waveform set with low autoand cross-correlation side-lobes in a specified lag interval. After formulating a multi-dimensional optimization problem, we propose a new iterative approach that based on the pattern search (PS) method. Capabilities of the PS algorithm and the WeCAN are evaluated via numerical simulations. Simulation results indicate that the new method has better performance with respect to the side-lobe level in the specified lag interval and less computation load compared to the WeCAN algorithm.
