Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to investigate the existence of symmetric positive solutions for a class of fourth-order boundary value problem:u4(t)+βu′′(t)=f(t,u(t),u′′(t)),0<t<1,u(0)=u(1)=∫01‍p(s)u(s)ds,u′′(0)=u′′(1)=∫01‍qsu′′(s)ds, wherep,q∈L1[0,1],f∈C([0,1]×[0,∞)×(-∞,0],[0,∞)). By using a monotone iterative technique, we prove that the above boundary value problem has symmetric positive solutions under certain conditions. In particular, these solutions are obtained via the iteration procedures.

Abstract:This paper is Concerned with the existence, uniqueness, and method of Construction of a solution for a class of fourth-order and second-order multi-point boundary value problems. The multi-point boundary condition under consideration includes various commonly discussed boundary conditions, such as the standard two-point boundary condition, three or four-point boundary condition, and one-end multi-point boundary condition. The existence problem is based on the method of upper and lower solutions and its associated monotone iterations. Various verifiable sufficient conditions for the existence of maximal and minimal solutions, uniqueness of the solution, and a continuum of infinite number of constant solutions are given. Several examples are presented to illustrate the application of the existence and uniqueness results for both the fourth-order and the second-order problems.

Abstract:This paper is a sequel to a previous paper (Yang, Y. and Zhang, J. H. Existence of solutions for some fourth-order boundary value problems with parameters. Nonlinear Anal. 69 (2), 1364–1375 (2008)) in which the nontrivial solutions to the fourth-order boundary value problems were studied. Abstract:This paper is concerned with finite difference solutions of a class of fourth-order nonlinear elliptic boundary value problems. The nonlinear function is not necessarily monotone. A new monotone iterative technique is developed, and three basic monotone iterative processes for the finite difference system are constructed. Several theoretical comparison results among the various monotone sequences are given. A simple and easily verified condition is obtained to guarantee a geometric convergence of the iterations. Numerical results for a model problem with known analytical solution are given.
