Abstract:Applications of interdisciplinary topics such as engineering geology, geoinstrumentation, geotechnical and geo-environmental engineering, mining engineering, rock engineering, blasting engineering, petroleum engineering, off shore and marine geo-technology, geothermal energy, resource engineering, water resources and engineering, groundwater, geochemical engineering, environmental engineering, atmospheric Sciences, Climate Change, and oceanography. Flash floods are one of the major natural disasters that may hamper human development. The regional division of flash floods is an effective non-engineering measure of flood control and reduction. In the present study, the grey fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method combined with the GIS technology are proposed to establish the risk assessment model of flash floods, also a reasonable index system of mountain flood risk assessment is established. The proposed model is made at township level with much higher resolution data, leading to a risk map of 1436 towns and counties in Hubei Province for planning prevention and relief. Earlier work conducted for the flood disaster risk zonation was commonly based on DEM data and statistical yearbook data, selected the index such as the impact of rainfall, topography, slope, river distribution factor with analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method to determine the weight, finally got the regional risk map by using ArcGIS map algebra superposition. This method was simple and feasible, but not adequately reasonable. The present study has taken into account remote sensing images such as river network density, vegetation coverage and proportion of agricultural area as well as historical flood disaster data. Results demonstrate that the used approach of regional division is shown to be capable of planning the dangerous areas, overcoming the limitation of the flash flood assessment model, reducing the impact of flash floods and providing the local residents with information about the risk of disasters.
