Abstract:In order to guarantee the reproduction quality of color, some special technologies and methods are used to expand the destination gamut to match the original gamut and destination gamut as well as enough. In this paper, several methods to extend destination gamut were studied for high fidelity color reproduction. These methods included adopting gamut mapping algorithms based on new display technologies, improving the paper surface properties and selecting the inks of better properties which included that we adopted several kinds of digital printing papers and selected the inks of more purity and more lightness, improving printing techniques and using high fidelity printing of more than four color inks which included using the frequency conversion amplitude modulation screening method. The above methods were classified into soft methods and hard methods. The characteristics of the above methods to extend destination gamut were analyzed and the extension effects were compared. The ranges, results and mechanisms of the gamut extension made by the two types of the above methods were different. The results help to make a further study on the methods to achieve high fidelity color reproduction and to extend the destination gamut, then to perceive the best visual effect in color transmission process. © 2010 Binary Information Press.
