Abstract:An effective method for the synthesis of beta-allyl polysubstituted butenolides from the easily available allylic halides and 2,3-allenoic acids is described. By using this method optically active butenolides can be obtained. According to the results presented in this paper, the reaction may proceed via three consecutive steps: cyclic oxypalladation of the allene, insertion of the C=C bond in allylic halides, and beta-dehalopalladation.

Abstract:An efficient iron‐catalyzed allylation of cycloalkyl hydroperoxides with allylic sulfones via C−C bond cleavage is presented. This protocol provides an efficient approach to a wide range of distally allylated ketones with good functional group tolerance and high regioselectivity under redox‐neutral conditions. Preliminary mechanistic study implies a radical process might be involved in this reaction.

Abstract:A tandem coupling-ketooxygenation reaction of readily accessible enediyne-carboxylic compounds with inner alkynes has been developed that utilizes the PdCl2/CuBr2 catalytic system under an O2 atmosphere and assembles a class of isoindolinones and o-acylbenzoic acids. The two oxygen atoms are regioselectively incorporated into enediyne units at the 1- and 6-positions from atmospheric molecular oxygen and H2O, respectively, during the present process. This study uncovered a formal [4C + 2C] benzannulation-diketonization of enediynes and alkynes via a coupling and decoupling strategy.

Abstract:A cooperative Cu/Pd-catalyzed asymmetric three-component reaction of styrenes, B2(pin)2, and allyl carbonates was reported. This reaction, in the presence of chiral CuOAc/SOP and achiral Pd(dppf)Cl2 catalysts, occurs smoothly with high enantioselectivities (up to 97% ee) . The allylboration products, which contain alkene (or diene) unite and alkylboron group, are easily functionalized. The utility of this protocol was demonstrated through the synthesis of an antipsychotic drug, (-)-preclamol.

Abstract:Iron chloride has been found to be an efficient catalyst for the disproportionation of allylic alcohols, which provides a convenient method for selective transformation of allylic alcohols to alkenes and alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones. Furthermore, this catalytic system is also effective for highly selective allylic reduction of allylic alcohols, allylic ethers, and allylic acetates with benzyl alcohol under neutral and convenient reaction conditions.

Abstract:Here we report a [Cp*RhCl2](2) catalyzed three-component coupling cyclization of 2,3-allenoic acids and 2,3-allenols in the presence of Cu(OAc)(2)center dot H2O, affording furanone derivatives. The synthetic potential has been demonstrated. The mechanism has also been demonstrated by isotopic labeling experiments, unveiling unexpected reaction pathways.

Abstract:Propylene gas is produced worldwide by steam cracking on million-metric-ton scale per year. It serves as a valuable starting material for π-bond functionalization but is rarely applied in transition metal-catalyzed allylic C-H functionalization for fine chemical synthesis. Herein, we report that a newly-developed cationic cyclopentadienyliron dicarbonyl complex allows for the conversion of propylene to its allylic C-C bond coupling products under catalytic conditions. This approach was also found applicable to the allylic functionalization of simple α-olefins with distinctive branched selectivity. Experimental and computational mechanistic studies supported the allylic deprotonation of the metal-coordinated alkene as the turnover-limiting step and led to insights into the multifaceted roles of the newly designed ligand in promoting allylic C-H functionalization with enhanced reactivity and stereoselectivity.

Abstract:Cross-coupling cyclization reaction between 2,3-allenoic acids 1 and 2,3-allenols 2, in which two allenes functioned differently, was realized to afford 4-(1',3'-dien-2'-yl)-2(5H)-furanone derivatives 3. The reaction may proceed via an oxypalladation, insertion, and beta-hydroxide elimination process. A high E-stereoselectivity of the new formed C=C double bond was observed.

Abstract:In the absence of a base, palladium(II) catalysts, such as PdCl(2), PdCl(2)(CH(3)CN)(2), Pd(OAc)(2), and [(pi-C(3)H(5))PdCl](2), can catalyze the cyclizative coupling reaction of 2,3- or 3,4-allenols with allylic halides in DMA at room temperature to provide 2,5-dihydrofurans and 5,6-dihydro-2H-pyrans, respectively, in moderate to good yields. Under similar reaction conditions, nonsubstituted 2,3-allenol 1s affords bimolecular cyclizative coupling product 5s as the major product. The scope of the reaction and its mechanism have been studied briefly. On the basis of the experimental results, the transformation was believed to proceed via a divalent palladium-catalyzed pathway.

Abstract:The enantioselective Pd-catalyzed allylation of diaryl-substituted allylic carbonates and diphenylphosphine oxide was investigated. This method gave allylic diphenylphosphine oxides in yields up to 95% with 97% ee. Pd-catalyzed allylation of (E)-methyl allyl carbonates with diisopropyl phosphonate was also examined.
