Development of Theoretical Chemistry in China

Abstract:The history of theoretical chemistry in China has been traced back since 1949. Starting from the original sterile state, the theoretical chemistry has gradually grown up into oasis with remarkable advances in some aspects. The development of theoretical chemistry can be divided into two periods with the year of 1978 as the boundary. The early growing-up time is marked by the research and teaching contributions from the pioneer ( as supervisor) and his students,and the latter booming time is being depicted by young generation,who made progress in main stream of theoretical chemistry. The advances in 10 typical aspects are reviewed in time sequence. By the end of this review,some outlooks and suggestions are given, especially for strengthen of fundamental teaching of chemistry department in universities and the training of physical chemistry (including theoretical chemistry).
