Abstract:A facile polyol approach has been developed for large-scale synthesis of water-soluble Na2SiF6 nanotubes and nanospindles in a controlled manner with polyacrylic acid (PAA) as a surfactant. We found that the concentration of PAA plays a critical role in controlling the morphology of the Na2SiF6 nanostructures because this parameter determines the shape of PAA micelles formed in aqueous solution. As expected, the Na2SiF6 nanotubes and nanospindles exhibit wide applications as a template for synthesis of other nanostructures owing to their water-soluble properties.

Abstract:Semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes (s-SWNTs) with diameters of 1.0-1.5 nm (with similar bandgap to crystalline silicon) are highly desired for nano electronics. Up to date, the highest reported content of s-SWNTs as-grown is similar to 97%, which is still far below the daunting requirements of high-end applications. Herein, we report a feasible and green pathway to use H2O vapor to modulate the structure of the intermetallic W6Co7 nanocrystals. By using the resultant W6Co7 nanocatalysts with a high percentage of (1 0 10) planes as structural templates, we realized the direct growth of s-SWNT with the purity of similar to 99%, in which similar to 97% is (14,4) tubes (diameter 1.29 nm). H2O can also act as an environmentally friendly and facile etchant for eliminating metallic SWNTs, and the content of s-SWNTs was further improved to 99.8% and (14,4) tubes to 98.6%. High purity s-SWNTs with even bandgap determined by their uniform structure can be used for the exquisite applications in different fields.

Abstract:Nanotube is a fascinating class of nanomaterials due to its superior performances in many fields.The hard template-assisted methods are usually utilized for the synthesis of nanotubes,however,the harsh conditions for removing the template may destroy the nanotubes.In this paper,water-soluble Na2SiF6 nanorods were synthesized in the ethylene glycol,then a ZnS∶Mn2+ layer was deposited on the surfaces of Na2SiF6 nanorods.ZnS∶Mn2+ nanotubes can be obtained by simply rinsing the templates.The photoluminescence property of the nanotubes was investigated.

Abstract:ZnS nanowires were synthesized by hydrothermal process using dodecylthiol as a surfactant, and an effective control route for the crystal growth of ZnS nanowires was provided. The diameter and length of ZnS nanowires obtained were 50 nm similar to 100 nm and 10 mu m similar to 20 pm respectively. The microstructure and composition of the nanowires were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). And the optical properties of ZnS nanowires were examined by photoluminescence (PL) spectrum and ultraviolet diffuse reflection (UV) spectrum. The mechanism of dodecylthid restricting ZnS nanoocrystal to one-dimension orientation was studied.

Abstract:In this communication, we demonstrate a new approach to well-controlled growth of Se nanowires and nanotubes, which comprises a hydrothermal process and a following sonication. The hydrothermal process was used to derive Se particles of trigonal phase. In the subsequent sonication, if the Se particles were large enough, they were first broken, and then aggregated along the circumferential edge of the gap thus forming Se nanotubes; conversely, the Se particles were not broken and then aligned into nanowires. The high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) proved that both the Se nanotubes and nanowires were single crystalline in nature and <100> oriented. Based on a series of the TEM observation, a phenomenological mechanism for the elucidation of the controllable growth of Se nanowires and nanotubes is presented.

Abstract:WOx (2 < x < 3) and WS2 nanostructures have been widely praised due to applications as catalysts, solid lubricants, field emitters, and optical components. Many methods have been developed to fabricate these nanomaterials; however, most attention was focused on the same dimensional transformation from WOx nanoparticles or nanorods to WS2 nanoparticles or nanotubes. In a solid-vapor reaction, by simply controlling the quantity of water vapor and reaction temperature, we have realized the transformation from quasi-zero-dimensional WS2 nanoparticles to one-dimensional W18O49 nanorods, and subsequent sulfuration reactions have further converted these W18O49 nanorods into WS2 nanotubes. The reaction temperature, quantity of water vapor, and pretreatment of the WS2 nanoparticle precursors are important process parameters for long, thin, and homogeneous W18O49 nanorods growth. The morphologies, crystal structures, and circling transformation mechanisms of sulfide-oxide-sulfide are discussed, and the photoluminescence properties of the resulting nanorods are investigated using a Xe lamp under an excitation of 270 nm.

Abstract:In this manuscript, series of silicates nanowires, such as calcium silicate, strontium silicate, barium silicate, zinc silicate and cadmium silicate, etc., have been successfully prepared from a water–ethanol mixed solution system through a hydrothermal synthetic way. The formation process of these silicates nanowires has been studied in detail. Due to their rich sources and possible novel properties from reduced dimensionalities, we believe that the synthesis of these silicates nanowires may bring some new opportunity in the solid state chemistry and nanoscience and technology fields, etc.
A Novel Sulfide-Assisted Growth of Silicon Nano-Wires

Abstract:A large-scale SiNWs with the diameter of /spl sim/20-30 nm and the length of tens of micrometers formed on silicon substrates using a novel evaporation of sulfides (sulphur and zinc sulfide) at /spl sim/1080/spl deg/C were synthesized; The source of SiNWs came from silicon wafers rather than silane gas as reported before. It was found that the tip of SiNWs contained sulfur, while the other positions of SiNWs did not. It is considered that the decomposition of SiS resulted in the formation of SiNWs. As referring to the oxygen-assisted growth model of SiNWs by evaporation of silicon oxide, a corresponding sulfide-assisted model was suggested.

Abstract:Through the controlled removal of surfactant from the presynthesized mesolamellar precursor (WO-L) at elevated temperature, tungsten oxide nanowires with diameters ranging from 10 to 50 nm and lengths up to several micrometers were obtained on a large scale. The structure, morphology, and composition of the nanowires were characterized by the XRD, TEM, HRTEM, EDX, and Raman spectra.

Abstract:Through electroless silver deposition, we have successfully fabricated Si nanowires (SiNWs) in a conventional vessel containing aqueous HF and AgNO3 solution. Their growth mechanisms are analyzed on the basis of a self-assembled localized microscopic electrochemical cell model. A series of scanning electron microscope observations reveal the detailed growth process of the SiNWs. The formation of intermediate Si nanostructures (undetached Si nanotubes) is suggested to be responsible for the growth of triangular shaped SiNWs. The shape and structure of the SiNWs and intermediate undetached Si nanotubes are promising characteristics for applications in interconnection and basic components for future nanoelectronic and optoelectronic devices.

Abstract:We report here a template method for the fabrication of nanochannels with water-dissolvable NaNH4Mo3O10 center dot H2O nanowires as the sacrificial material. By using these nanowires, which have diameters ranging from 20 to 150 nm and lengths up to a hundred microns, we have demonstrated that it is possible to obtain nanochannels with the desired shape of cross section, and desired types of channel material, such as metals and oxides. This technique shows a good potential for the development of various microfluidic and nanofluidic devices.

Abstract:We have developed a robust method for the synthesis of silica nanotubes with controlled aspect ratios on a large scale by templating against rod-like nanocrystals. Crystalline nanorods of a nickel-hydrazine complex are first formed in reverse micelles by surfactant capping on side facets, and subsequent silica coating and selective etching give rise to silica nanotubes of high uniformity and yield. The length of the silica nanotubes is tunable in the range 37-340 nm and can reach as long as micrometers. Control of the length is conveniently achieved by tuning the hydrazine/nickel ratio, which affects the growth kinetics of the nanocrystal templates. The inner diameter of the silica nanotubes can be adjusted in the range 10-20 nm by choosing different surfactants. This method is unique in utilizing reverse micelles as discrete nanoscale reactors for the growth of nanocrystals, allowing for precise control of the features of the nanotubes and opening up new opportunities in the synthesis of novel anisotropic nanomaterials, construction of nanodevices, and potential drug delivery applications.

Abstract:A surfactant containing a terminal carbon source moiety was synthesized and used simultaneously as both template molecule and carbon source. On the basis of this special structure-directing agent, ail efficient strategy for producing uniform carbon nanowires with diameter below 1 nm was developed using a confined self-assembly approach. Besides the capability of producing Ultralong and thin carbon wires inaccessible by the previously reported approaches, the method described here presents many advantages such as the direct use of residue iron complex as catalyst for carbonization and no requirement of conventional tedious infiltration process of carbon source into small channels. Different methods including SEM, TEM, XRD, Raman spectroscopy, and conductivity measurement were employed to characterize the formed ultrathin carbon nanofibers. Additionally, the described strategy is extendable. By designing ail appropriate surfactant, it is also possible for the fabrication of the finely structured carbon network and ultrathin graphitic sheets through the construction of the corresponding cubic and lamellar mesostructured templates.

Abstract:Large-scale long continuous FeS2 nanowire filled carbon nanotubes ( CNTs) were one-step synthesized in the presence of NaN3 in supercritical CS2 at 500 degrees C using ferrocene as the iron source. The CNTs have outer diameters in the range of 15-25 nm and the core FeS2 nanowires inside CNTs are characterized as single crystals, with an average diameter of 8 nm and up to several micrometres in length. The band gap of FeS2 nanowire filled CNTs was determined as 5.69 eV from the ultraviolet and visible light absorption spectrum, showing its promise for application in reversible conversion between solar energy and electrical or chemical energy.

Abstract:Large-area silicon nanowire arrays have been prepared on a silicon wafer without the use of a template. The simple method, which can be carried out near room temperature, involves the nanoelectrochemistry of silver nanowires in an aqueous HF solution containing silver nitrate. Abstract:An easy, novel route to prepare Janus nanoparticles and nano-bowls with tunable shapes has been developed. This approach uses a new kind of monodisperse vinyl-silica nanoparticles as templates to obtain large amounts of uniform Janus particles and nano-bowls (several grams). The efficient method adopts water-based hydrolysis-condensation and seed-emulsion polymerization. The uniform Janus nanoparticles and nano-bowls will display wide potential applications in many fields, such as: chemical sensors, construction of complex superstructures and nano-bioreactors.

Abstract:Previously, various carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) have been synthesized by different methods. All these methods required the use of catalysts that were based on transition metals or their alloys, and there were scabrous problems related to CNM purification. Using acetylene as reactant and Na2CO3 powder as catalyst, carbon nanofibers (CNFs) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were selectively synthesized in this study at acetylene decomposition temperature of 450 and 500°C, respectively. Because Na2CO3 is water-soluble, it can be removed from the products through simple washing with water and the nanocarbon materials can be harvested undamaged in high purity. The approach is simple, inexpensive, and environment-friendly; it can be adopted for controlled production of high-purity CNFs or CNTs.

Abstract:Controlling fabrication of mono-dispersed and well-aligned arrays of one-dimensional (ID) nanostructures, nanowires or nanotubes, will benefit a lot for the investigation of their physical properties and their potential use in nanolasers, chemical and biological sensors, and nanoelectrode arrays for solar energy conversion and catalysis. In our previous works, we have fabricated a broad range of semiconductor nanowire arrays by electrochemical synthesis in template. In this present, we design a well-controlled process to fabricate uniform nanotube arrays through a multi-step template replication and electrodeposition approach. The resulting nanotubes with uniform wall thickness and diameters along the entire tubes are highly ordered and mono-dispersed. Moreover, we develop a supercritical drying route to avoid the clustering or collapse of the nanowire arrays caused by capillary force during the removing of the template. By this strategy, we have obtained large-scale, non-collapse, well-aligned nanowire arrays on conductive substrates. Final, the uses of these nanowire arrays for future nanodevices are discussed.
