Assessment scale for cancer pain standardized treatment:development and application

Abstract:Objective:To compile and evaluate the reliability and validity of Cancer Pain-Standardized Treatment Assessment Scale (CP-STAS), for providing a simple and effective evaluation tool to assess the standardization treatment of cancer pain in hospitals.Methods:A literature inquiry and expert interviews were used to form a scale entry pool, and the final scale was formed after expert consultation, preliminary investigation, and formal investigation. The CP-STAS was used to evaluate the history records of cancer pain patients in various departments of the First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine from February to April 2019, to investigate the reliability and validity of the scale and to conduct project analysis and homogeneity testing.Results:A total of 200 patients' history were evaluated in the survey. Levene's F tests indicates that the low-group and high-group of the total score of the scale were significantly different, and the scale had a good discrimination; the homogeneity test indicated that all items except 11 had a good correlation with the total score; and the measurement of Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.739, indicating that the reliability of the scale was very impressive. The factor analysis method was used to extract the structural validity of the 4 public factor interpretation scales, which can explain 58.888% of the total variance, and the load of the 14 items on their main factors were all greater than 0.4, indicating that the scale had good validity. Conclusion:The Cancer Pain-Standardized Treatment Assessment Scale proposed in this paper has a good reliability and validity to assess the standardization treatment of cancer pain in hospitals, and applicable in clinic.
