Abstract:Species in the genus Xenogryllus may be well-known to Chinese citizens since their calling songs often attract people to feed and enjoy them.Two species,Xenogryllus transversus (Walker,1869) and Xenogryllus marmoratus (Haan,1842),were known to reside in China from previous studies.However,the distribution of X.transversus in China derives from misidentification.Specimens from Yunnan Province,misidentified as X.transversus in earlier studies,are recognized as Xenogryllus maichauensis Gorochov,1992in this study.Another large Xenogryllus species found from Guangdong Province is identified as X.ululiu Gorochov,1990.Both species are recorded in China for the first time.In this article,all known species of genus Xenogryllus from China are described and illustrated and a key to Chinese species of Xenogryllus is presented.

Abstract:Gryllotalpa jinxiuensis You et Li, 1990 and Gryllotalpa henana Cai et Niu, 1998, which were incompletely described, are redescribed and illustrated here based on a fuller character set of tegmen veins, stridulatory file and genitalia. Two new species of Gryllotalpa from Henan and Zhejiang, China are also described.

Abstract:After extensive sampling of specimens from species found in China, we examined the intraspecific morphological variation of several characters used for species delimitation in two closely related cricket genera, Gymnogryllus Saussure, 1877 and Phonarellus Gorochov, 1983. We found that the characters (male genitalia in Gymnogryllusodonopetalus Xie & Zheng, 2003 and Phonarellusritsemae (Saussure, 1877), and coloration of the hind leg in Phonarellusminor (Chopard, 1959)) exhibit considerable amounts of variation within species, and are thus not reliable characters for species differentiation. Therefore, we revised the taxonomy of these two genera. Five synonyms are proposed: G.yunnanensis (= G.odonopetalus) syn. nov., G.striatus (= G.odonopetalus) syn. nov., G.longus (= G.odonopetalus) syn. nov., G.tumidulus (= G.odonopetalus) syn. nov., and P.flavipes (= P.minor) syn. nov. All species mentioned above are described and illustrated. Keys and a distribution map are provided.

Abstract:A chance find of a dead mole cricket is proved to be a new species, Gryllotalpa choui, sp. nov., from Yunnan, China. This species, described in the present paper, can be distinguished from all other mole crickets mainly by short abdomen (pronotum longer than half length of abdomen), tegmen nearly round when flattened, large proportional size proportion of the harp, c1 and c2, very short apical field as well as longitudinal veins in this field, vestigial hind wings and a foot-shaped ectophallus.

Abstract:The crickets from Southern Guangxi, China have been investigated from 2017-2019. Teleogryllus (Brachyteleogryllus) commodus and Lissotrachelus ferrugineonotatus are first reported from Guangxi. Two new species, Polionemobius marblus He sp. nov. and Ornebius panda He sp. nov., are described along with their calling songs. The COI genes of above species and Cacoplistes brevisparamerus, Gorochovius trinervus are provided. The type specimens are deposited in Museum of Biology. East China Normal University (ECNU).

Abstract:Members of the genus Truljalia are green and boat-like crickets. They have a similar external appearance and distinct genitalia. Truljalia hibinonis hibinonis (Matsumura, 1917) is suspected to be widespread but has a genital morphology that is too simple to distinguish from similar species. Cricket specimens from central areas of China appeared similar to T. hibinonis hibinonis. When both morphological and acoustical data were integrated, they were found to be new species. The new species, Truljalia panda sp. nov. and Truljalia hubeiensis sp. nov., are described, and the female type of species Truljalia bispinosa Wang and Wu, 1992 is firstly described. A key to Truljalia species worldwide is given and most of Chinese known species are redescribed and illustrated.

Abstract:A new species, Gryllotalpa chrysea sp. nov., distributed in Sichuan and Guangdong provinces of China is described. The body of the new species is small and easily distinguished from other species in the genus by its coloration of black body and golden forewings. Here, we describe and illustrate this new taxon, and provide description and illustration of the genitalia features of Gryllotalpa orientalis Burmeister, 1838 and Gryllotalpa cycloptera Ma & Zhang, 2011.

Abstract:This paper deals with five species of the genus Homogryllacris Liu, 2007 from China, including one new species, i.e. Homogryllacris nigromacula sp. nov. Morphological illustrations of most species and habitus of the new species are provided. Moreover, one geographical population of Homogryllacris yunnana Shi, Guo & Bian, 2012 and intraspecific variation of Homogryllacris platycis Liu & Bian, 2021 are discussed and illustrated. All specimens examined are deposited in the Museum of Hebei University.

Abstract:During a Gryllidae survey in the Southern Cameroonian Plateau, one new species of the genus Gymnogryllus (Orthoptera, Gryllidae, Gryllinae) was discovered and described, namely Gymnogryllus bilongi Um Nyobe & Kekeunou sp. nov. This finding extends the number of species known of this genus in Cameroon at two and proposes a key for African species.

Abstract:A key to the species of the genus Gryllotalpa from China is given.A new species,G.mabiana sp.nov.,is described.The new species is similar to G.pygmaea found in Nepal,from which it may be distinguished by radius undivided distally,stridulatory area shaped as triangle,and lateral tip of transversal sclerite of epiphallus acute.G.mabiana sp.nov.is also similar to G.henana,but can be distinguished by:the fore wing reaching beyond the fifth tergite,hind wing reaching posterior margin of forth tergite;pronotum without cordate sculptural marks;parameres as hook-shaped.

Abstract:Vietacheta, a cricket genus found across northern and southern Vietnam, is a rare taxon lacking any additional species discovered after the genus was established. This genus possesses features found across many other genera. Its general appearance is the same as Itaropsis; genitalia ectoparamere is very similar to Phonarellus; inner tympanum is absent, and particularly, the metanotum is armed with several hairs. Now, we found the first species of Vietacheta in China. The new species, Vietacheta harpophylla sp. nov., is close to Vietacheta aquila Gorochov, 1992, but they are different in details of anal plate, epiphallus, and ectoparamere. A description and illustration of this new species, a revision of other Vietacheta, and a key to the genus are provided.

Abstract:Dark body color is very common among crickets, and this article discusses four species of black field crickets with distinct distributions. There are three species of the genus Melanogryllus Chopard, 1961 and one species of the genus Velarifictorus Randell, 1964. Of them, Melanogryllus chopardi Bey-Bienko, 1968 was discovered in Southwest Xizang, on the border between China and Nepal; Melanogryllus desertus (Pallas, 1771) was primarily found in arid regions of northwestern China; Melanogryllus bilineatus Yang & Yang, 1994 was often collected from the Southeast China coastal region; and the last species, Velarifictorus yuanilandrevus sp. nov. , is a new species that was collected in Yunnan, a province in Southwest China. In addition, the new species could be distinguished from the others by its black body coloration and the absence of yellow stripes on the head. Here, we describe these species in detail, with photographs of the genitalia, and provide a distribution map for them and keys for Chinese Melanogryllus species.
