Abstract:Seven new pentacyclic triterpenoid saponins, named dianversicosides A-G (1-7), together with nine known compounds, were isolated from the aerial parts of Dianthus versicolor. The structures of 1-7 were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data and chemical evidence. The absolute configuration of the 3-hydroxyl-3-methylglutaryl (HMG) group in 1-4 was ascertained by chemical analysis combined with a chiral HPLC method. Cytotoxic activities of the isolated compounds were evaluated against a small panel of cancer and other cell lines.

Abstract:Phytochemical investigation of the methanol extract from the whole plants of Patrinia scabiosaefolia Fisch. resulted in the isolation of four new triterpenoid saponins (1–4) along with six known compounds (5–10). On the basis of spectroscopic and chemical methods, the structures of the new compounds were established as 3-O-β-d-xylopyranosyl-(1→3)-α-l-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)-β-d-xylopyranosyl-12β,30-dihydroxy-olean-28,13β-olide (1), 3-O-α-l-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)-β-d-xylopyranosyl-12β,30-dihydroxy-olean-28,13β-olide (2), 3-O-β-d-xylopyranosyl-(1→2)-β-d-glucopyranosyl-12β, 30-dihydroxy-olean-28,13β-olide (3), and 3-O-β-d-glucopyranosyl-(1→4)-β-d-xylopyranosyl-(1→3)-α-l-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)-β-d-xylopyranosyl-oleanolic acid 28-O-β-d-glucopyranoside (4), respectively. Compounds 1–3 possess a novel 12β,30-dihydroxy-olean-28,13β-lactone aglycone and a 12β-hydroxy substituent that is rarely found in this kind of triterpenoid saponin.

Abstract:Five new triterpenoid monodesmosides (sinocrassulosides I-V, 1-5) and six bisdesmosides (sinocrassulosides VI-XI, 6-11), in which 2-11 possess different acyl groups in the glycosidic moieties, were isolated from the roots of Sinocrassula asclepiadea FRANCH. Sinocrassulosides VI (4) and V (5) also contained a novel A-seco aglycone in their structures. All of the structures were determined on the basis of spectroscopic and physicochemical evidence.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the chemical constituents from the roots of Ilex pubescens.Methods The compounds were separated and purified by chromatography on silica gel,and Sephadex LH-20 columns.Their chemical structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic methods and chemical evidences.Results A triterpenoid glycoside was purified and its structure was identified as 3-O-β-D-xylopyranosylspathodic acid(1).Conclusion Compound 1 is a new triterpenoid glycoside,named ilexsaponin D.

Abstract:The isolation and characterization of three new oleanane-type triterpenoidal saponins, called gleditsiosides E-G, along with two known ones, from the anomalous fruits of Gleditsia sinensis LAM. are described. Their structural details were unambiguously determined by using a combination of modern NMR techniques, including distortionless enhancement by polarization transfer (DEPT), double-quantum filtered 1H-1H correlated spectroscopy (DQF-COSY), homonuclear hartmann-hahn (HOHAHA), 1H-13C heteronuclear correlation (HET-COR), heteronuclear multiple-bond connectivity (HMBC) and rotating-frame overhauser enhancement spectroscopy (ROESY) experiments as well as some chemical methods. The five bisdesmosidic triterpenoidal saponins consisting of the same sugar sequence were all acylated with two different or identical monoterpenic acids to the C-2 and C-3 positions of rhamnose moiety.

Abstract:Six triterpenoid saponins, including one new compound, quinquenoside F-6 (1), and five known compounds ginsenoside Re(2), ginsenoside Rg(1)(3), ginsenoside Rg(2)(4), ginsenoside Rh-1(5) and pseudo-ginsenoside F-11(6), were isolated from the fruits of Panax quinquefolium L., and the structure of compound 1 was elucidated as 6-O-beta-d-glucopyranosyl-20-O-[alpha-l-arabino- furanosyl-(1-6)-beta-d-glucopyranosyl]-dammar-24-ene-3 beta, 6 alpha, 12 beta, 20S-tetraol by the combination of the analysis of spectroscopic data and chemical evidences. The complete signal assignments of the six compounds were carried out by means of 2D NMR spectral analysis.

Abstract:A new triterpenoid saponin (1) and a new oligosaccharide (2), together with three known saponins (3–5), have been isolated from n-BuOH extract of the fruits of Sapindus mukorossi Gaertn. The structures were elucidated using detailed analysis of one- and two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance spectra along with their mass spectrometric data and the results of acid hydrolysis. Of the isolated compounds 1 and 3–5 displayed cytotoxic effects against human cancer cell lines in A-549 (lung carcinoma), MDA-231 (breast carcinoma) and PC-3 (prostatic carcinoma).

Abstract:Two new pentacyclic triterpene saponins, named akebiaoside K (1) and akebiaoside N (2), were isolated from the leaves of Akebia trifoliata, together with five known triterpenoids 3-7. They were all isolated from the leaves of A. trifoliata for the first time. Their structures were established by spectral and chemical means. Triterpenes 5 and 7 were found to show moderate in vitro cytotoxicity against human tumor A549, HeLa and HepG2 cell lines, with IC50 values ranging from 0.023 to 0.038 mM. Triterpenes 5-7 were further revealed to show significant in vitro -glucosidase inhibitory activity with IC50 values from 0.040 to 0.220 mM, making them more potent than the reference compound acarbose (IC50 0.409 mM). Meanwhile, no obvious inhibitory effects were observed for the isolated triterpene saponins 1-4 in both bioactivity assays.

Abstract:Four oleanane-type triterpene saponins, phaseoloideside A-D (1-4), were isolated from the seed kernels of Entada phaseoloides, along with rheediinoside B. The structures of the four new compounds were established by 2D-NMR spectroscopic methods, HR-ESI-MS analysis, and chemical degradation. Phaseoloideside D (4) showed cytotoxic activity against the Eca-109 cell line with an IC50 value of 28.0M.

Abstract:From methanol extracts of the whole plants of Anemone tetrasepala Royle, a new triterpenoid saponin, named tetrasepaloside (1), along with oleanolic acid 3-O-alpha -gluccopyranosyl (1 -->2)-alpha -arabinoside (2), HN-saponin F (3), pulsatiloside C (4), akebia saponin D (5), cauloside D (6), ciwujianoside A(1)(7) and cauloside F (8), was isolated. By means of chemical degradation and spectral analysis, including 2D-NMR spectroscopic methods (H-1-(HCOSY)-H-1, HMBC and HMQC), the structure of 1 was elucidated as 23-O-(2 ' ,3 ' -monoacetonide)-alpha -ribofuranosyl-hederagenin-28-O-alpha -rhamnopyranosyl( 1 -->4)-beta -glucopyranosyl( 1 -->6)-beta -gulcopyranoside. All these compounds were reported for the first time from this plant.

Abstract:A new triterpene saponin, androsacin (1), along with two known compounds, ardisiacrispin A (2) and saxifragifolin A (3), were isolated from the whole plants of Androsace integra. The chemical structure of the new compound was elucidated as 3β-O-{β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→4)-O-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1→2)-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→4)-[O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→2)]-α-L-arabinopyranosyl}-16α-hydroxy-13β,28-epoxy-olean-30-al on the basis of spectral evidence. Ardisiacrispin A (2) was cytotoxic toward HepG2 cancer cell with the GI50 value of 1.56μM.
