Abstract:In this paper, we give a family of rational maps whose Julia sets are Cantor circles and show that every rational map whose Julia set is a Cantor set of circles must be topologically conjugate to one map in this family on their corresponding Julia sets. In particular, we give the specific expressions of some rational maps whose Julia sets are Cantor circles, but they are not topologically conjugate to any McMullen maps on their Julia sets. Moreover, some non-hyperbolic rational maps whose Julia sets are Cantor circles are also constructed.

Abstract:In this paper, we discuss the rational maps F_λ (z) = z^n + λ /z^n ,n ⩾ 2 with the positive real parameter λ . It is shown that the immediately attracting basin B λ of ∞ for F λ is always a Jordan domain if the Julia set of F λ is not a Cantor set. Furthermore, B λ is a quasidisk if there is no parabolic fixed point on the boundary of B λ . It is also shown that if the Julia set of F λ is connected, then it is locally connected and all Fatou components are Jordan domains. Finally, a complete description to the problem when the Julia set is a Sierpiński curve is given.

Abstract:Let $f$ be a rational map with degree at least two. We prove that $f$ has at least $2$ disjoint and infinite critical orbits in the Julia set if it has a Herman ring. This result is sharp in the following sense: there exists a cubic rational map having exactly two critical grand orbits but also having a Herman ring. In particular, $f$ has no Herman rings if it has at most one infinite critical orbit in the Julia set. These criterions derive some known results about the rational maps without Herman rings.

Abstract:We prove the existence of rational maps having smooth degenerate Herman rings. This answers a question of Eremenko affirmatively. The proof is based on the construction of smooth Siegel disks by Avila, Buff and Chéritat as well as the classical Siegel-to-Herman quasiconformal surgery. A crucial ingredient in the proof is the surgery's continuity, which relies on the control of the loss of the area of quadratic filled-in Julia sets by Buff and Chéritat. As a by-product, we prove the existence of rational maps having a nowhere dense Julia set of positive area for which these maps have no irrationally indifferent periodic points, no Herman rings, and are not renormalizable.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the dynamical behavior of the family of complex rational maps which is given byfλ(z)=zn(z2n−λn+1)z2n−λ3n−1, where n≥2 and λ∈C⁎−{λ:λ2n−2=1}. This family of rational maps can be seen as a perturbation of the unicritical polynomial z↦zn if λ is small. We prove that the Julia set J(fλ) of fλ is either a quasicircle, a Cantor set of circles, a Sierpiński carpet or a degenerated Sierpiński carpet provided one of the free critical points of fλ is escaping to the origin or to the infinity. In particular, we prove that there exists suitable λ such that the Julia set J(fλ) is a Cantor set of circles, but fλ is not topologically conjugate to any McMullen map on their corresponding Julia sets.
Rational curves on Hermitian manifolds

Abstract: By using analytic method, we prove that there exist rational curves on compact Hermitian manifolds with positive holomorphic bisectional curvature. It confirms a question of S.-T. Yau. It is well-known that Mori proved in \cite{Mori79} that every compact complex manifold $N$ with $c_1(N)>0$ contains at least one rational curve. However, as a borderline example, we show that the standard Hopf surface $S^1\times S^3$ has a Hermitian metric with non-negative holomorphic bisectional curvature (in particular, $c_1(S^1\times S^3)\geq 0$), but it contains no rational curve.

Suppose that there exists an annulus H subset of (C) over cap such that (1) H separates two critical points of F, and (2) F : H -> F(H) is a homeomorphism. Abstract:In 1980s, Thurston established a topological characterization theorem for postcritically finite rational maps. In this paper, a decomposition theorem for a class of postcritically infinite branched covering termed Herman map is developed. It's shown that every Herman map can be decomposed along a stable multicurve into finitely many Siegel maps and Thurston maps, such that the combinations and rational realizations of these resulting maps essentially dominate the original one. This result is motivated by a non-expanding version of McMullen's problem, and Thurston's theory on characterization of rational maps. It enables us to prove a Thurston-type theorem for rational maps with Herman rings.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the dynamics of the following family of rational maps f(lambda) (z) = z(2n) - 3(n+1) z(n) (z(2n) - lambda(n-1)) with one parameter lambda is an element of C* -{lambda:lambda(2n+2) =1}, where n >= 2. This family of rational maps is viewed as a singular perturbation of the bi- critical map P-n (z) = z(-n) if lambda not equal 0 is small. It is proved that the Julia set J (f(lambda)) is either a quasicircle, a Cantor set of circles, a Sierpinski carpet or a degenerate Sierpinski carpet provided the free critical orbits of f(lambda) are attracted by the super-attracting cycle 0 <-> 1. Furthermore, we prove that there exists suitable lambda such that J (f(lambda)) is a Cantor set of circles but the dynamics of f(lambda) on J (f(lambda)) is not topologically conjugate to that of any known rational maps with only one or two free critical orbits (including McMullen maps and the generalized McMullen maps). The connectivity of J (f(lambda)) is also proved if the free critical orbits are not attracted by the cycle 0 $ 1. Finally we give an estimate of the Hausdor ff dimension of the Julia set of f(lambda) in some special cases.

Abstract:For every smooth proper scheme over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$, Bilu, Ho, Srinivasan, Vogt, and Wickelgren introduced the dlog zeta function with coefficients in the Grothendieck-Witt ring $\mathrm{GW}(\mathbb{F}_q)$, enriching the dlog of the classical Weil zeta function with coefficients in $\mathbb{Z}$. They defined a notion of dlog rationality of such dlog zeta functions, which enriches the rationality of the Weil zeta function, and showed the dlog rationality for simple cellular schemes. In this paper, we show that for any smooth proper schemes over $\mathbb{F}_q$, the dlog zeta function is rational, but not necessarily dlog rational.

Abstract:We show that a nonsingular complex projective variety admitting a holomorphic vector field with nonempty isolated zeroes, is rational using a key technique by Harvey-Lawson on finite volume flows. This statement was conjectured by J. Carrell. By the same technique, we obtain a uniform upper bound of Betti numbers of nonsingular complex projective variety admitting a holomorphic vector field with exact one zero point. Such an upper bound depends only on the dimension of the variety, which is a stronger version of a result of Akyildiz and Carrell.

Abstract:For each positive prime integer $p$ we construct a standard graded $F$-rational ring $R$, over a field $K$ of characteristic $p$, such that $R\otimes_K\overline{K}$ is not $F$-rational. By localizing we obtain a flat local homomorphism $(R, \mathfrak{m}) \to (S, \mathfrak{n})$ such that $R$ is $F$-rational, $S/\mathfrak{m} S$ is regular (in fact, a field), but $S$ is not $F$-rational. In the process we also obtain standard graded $F$-rational rings $R$ for which $R\otimes_K R$ is not $F$-rational.

Abstract:In this work we prove that an entire function $f(z)$ has only negative zeros if and only if its order is strictly less $1$, its root sequence is real-part dominating and there exists an nonnegative integer $m$ the real function $\left(-\frac{1}{x}\right)^{m}\frac{d^{k}}{dx^{k}}\left(x^{k+m}\frac{d^{m}}{dx^{m}}\left(\frac{f'(x)}{f(x)}\right)\right)$ are completely monotonic on $(0,\infty)$ for all nonnegative integer $k$. As an application we state a necessary and sufficient condition for the Riemann hypothesis and generalized Riemann hypothesis for a primitive Dirichlet character.

Abstract:In this paper we discuss the dynamical structure of the rational family $(f_t)$ given by $$f_t(z)=tz^{m}\Big(\frac{1-z}{1+z}\Big)^{n}\quad(m\ge 2,~t\ne 0).$$ Each map $f_t$ has two super-attracting immediate basins and two free critical points. We prove that for $0<|t|\le 1$ and $|t|\ge 1$, either of these basins is completely invariant and at least one of the free critical points is inactive. Based on this separation we draw a detailed picture the structure of the dynamical and the parameter plane.
