Abstract:Inexact Uzawa algorithms for solving nonlinear saddle-point problems are proposed. A simple sufficient condition for the convergence of the inexact Uzawa algorithms is obtained. Numerical experiments show that the inexact Uzawa algorithms are convergent.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a symmetric saddle point problem arising in the fluid dynamics. A special parameterized inexact Uzawa algorithm is proposed for solving the symmetric saddle point problem. The convergence of this special algorithm is considered. Sufficient conditions for the convergence are given. Numerical experiments resulting from stokes problem are presented to show the efficiency of the algorithm.

Abstract:Recently, various Uzawa methods were proposed based on different matrix splitting for solving nonsingular saddle point problems, and the necessary and sufficient condition of the convergence for those Uzawa methods were derived. Motivated by their results, in this paper we give the semi-convergence analysis of the inexact Uzawa method which is applied to solve singular saddle point problems under certain conditions.

Abstract:An inexact Uzawa-type iterative algorithm is proposed for solving saddle point problems arising from mixed finite element methods or Lagrange multiplier methods for some PDEs. The convergence rate is given in terms of the rates of the two basic iterations and it is shown that the algorithm always converges as long as the two basic iterations converge.

Abstract:This paper deals with a modified nonlinear inexact Uzawa (MNIU) method for solving the stabilized saddle point problem. The modified Uzawa method is an inexact inner-outer iteration with a variable relaxation parameter and has been discussed in the literature for uniform inner accuracy. This paper focuses on the general case when the accuracy of inner iteration can be variable and the convergence of MNIU with variable inner accuracy, based on a simple energy norm. Sufficient conditions for the convergence of MNIU are proposed. The convergence analysis not only greatly improves the existing convergence results for uniform inner accuracy in the literature, but also extends the convergence to the variable inner accuracy that has not been touched in literature. Numerical experiments are given to show the efficiency of the MNIU algorithm.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the convergence behavior of the inexact Uzawa method with variable relaxation parameters for iteratively solving linear saddle-point problems presented in a recent paper by Hu and Zou [An iterative method with variable relaxation parameters for saddle-point problems, SIAM J. Matrix Anal. Appl., 23(2) (2001): 317-338]. A simple sufficient condition of the convergence of the inexact Uzawa method with variable relaxation parameters is obtained. The condition obtained is weaker than that of Hu and Zou's.

Abstract:Recently, Zheng, Bai and Yang studied the parameterized Uzawa method for solving singular saddle point problems (B. Zheng, Z.-Z. Bai, X. Yang, On semi-convergence of parameterized Uzawa methods for singular saddle point problems, Linear Algebra Appl. 431 (2009) 808-817). In this paper, we discuss the inexact Uzawa method, which covers the Uzawa method, the preconditioned Uzawa method, and the parameterized Uzawa method to solve the singular saddle point problems. We prove the semi-convergence result under restrictions by verifying two necessary and sufficient conditions, that is, all elementary divisors associated with the eigenvalue 1 of its iterative matrix are linear, and the pseudo-spectral radius of the iterative matrix is less than 1. Sufficient conditions for the semi-convergence of several Uzawa-type methods are also provided. In addition, numerical examples are given to demonstrate the semi-convergence of Uzawa-type methods.

Abstract:In [A new nonlinear Uzawa algorithm for generalized saddle point problems, Appl. Math. Comput., 175(2006), 1432–1454], a nonlinear Uzawa algorithm for solving symmetric saddle point problems iteratively, which was defined by two nonlinear approximate inverses, was considered. In this paper, we extend it to the nonsymmetric case. For the nonsymmetric case, its convergence result is deduced. Moreover, we compare the convergence rates of three nonlinear Uzawa methods and show that our method is more efficient than other nonlinear Uzawa methods in some cases. The results of numerical experiments are presented when we apply them to Navier-Stokes equations discretized by mixed finite elements.

Abstract:For large sparse saddle point problems, Bai and Wang recently studied a class of parameterized inexact Uzawa methods (see Z.-Z. Bai, Z.-Q. Wang, On paramaterized inexact Uzawa methods for generalized saddle point problems, Linear Algebra Appl. 428 (2008) 2900–2932). In this paper, we generalize these methods and propose a class of generalized inexact parameterized iterative schemes for solving the saddle point problems. We derive conditions for guaranteeing the convergence of these iterative methods. With different choices of the parameter matrices, the generalized iterative methods lead to a series of existing and new iterative methods including the classical Uzawa method, the inexact Uzawa method, the GSOR method and the GIAOR method.

For a special case that the (1, 1)-block is solved exactly, they determined the convergence domain and computed the optimal iteration parameters and the corresponding optimal convergence factor for the induced method. In this paper, we develop these methods to the large sparse generalized saddle point problems. For the obtained parameterized inexact Uzawa method, we prove its convergence under suitable restrictions on the iteration parameters. In particular, we determine its quasi-optimal iteration parameters and the corresponding quasi-optimal convergence factor for the saddle point problems. Furthermore, this PIU method is generalized to obtain a framework of accelerated variants of the parameterized inexact Uzawa methods for solving both symmetric and nonsymmetric generalized saddle point problems by using the techniques of vector extrapolation, matrix relaxation and inexact iteration. © 2008 Elsevier Inc. Abstract:This paper proposes a modified nonlinear inexact Uzawa (MNIU) algorithm for solving the stabilized saddle point problem, by introducing a variable overrelaxation parameter to speed up convergence. MNIU is an inner-outer iteration method with variable inner accuracy. We give a detailed error analysis for the convergence of MNIU, based upon a newly defined error norm which helps to handle variable inner accuracy for the Uzawa method. We also simply formulate the optimal overrelaxation parameter. Sufficient conditions are given for the convergence of MNIU. We show that MNIU converges in a relatively large range for the variable inner accuracy setting. For constant inner accuracy $\delta$, MNIU is convergent when $\delta<1$, too. Compared with the original nonlinear inexact Uzawa algorithm (NIU) that converges only for constant accuracy and $\delta<1/3$, this is a significant improvement. We also show a practical approach for estimating the optimal overrelaxation parameter for numerical computation. Numerical experiments of MNIU are given and compared with other methods. These results confirm the significant improvements of MNIU.

Abstract:In this paper, Uzawa-Low method for three-order block saddle point problem is presented and the corresponding convergence conditions are established. Furthermore, by introducing a preconditioner, we propose centered preconditioned Uzawa-Low method (CPU-Low method) and obtain its convergence conditions as well. Experimental results show that the two proposed methods are more efficient than Uzawa-Low method for the original saddle point problem and the CPU-Low method is superior to the Uzawa-Low method for three-order block saddle point problem.
