Abstract:Metastases are the most common cause of cancer-related death in patients with solid tumors. Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) are found out that they play a critical role in the metastatic spread of carcinomas. It is very important to develop highly efficient and reproducibility methods to enrich CTCs which detach from a primary tumor and circulate in the bloodstream. A novel device with 3D artificial fiber coated with cancer cell capture agents is developed to efficiently capture CTCs. The 3D artificial fiber provides local topographic interactions between the 3D fiber and cellular surface components, in addition to the cancer capture agent biological recognition, resulting in a vastly improved cell-capture affinity. The novel device for CTCs capture would provide a convenient method to study CTCs prognostic and therapeutic implications in clinic. More important, the technology could capture CTCs with high viability, which is conducive to culturing them, and performing molecular biological research.
