Enhancing Speech Better through Using Non-Uniform Critical Bands

Abstract:Non-uniform critical bands,very much like human hearing system,can perform speech signal reconstruction almost faultlessly in auditory perception.The title of section 1 of the full paper is:implementing the filter set of UDWP(unsampled discrete wavelet packet).The core idea of such a set is that it uses parallel UDWP to decompose noise speech in almost the same way as human hearing system.The title of section 2 is:enhancing speech using UDWP.Its core idea is that,at the subband level of the speech signal,it,as in existing methods in Refs.1 through 4 uses an infinite-order derivative function,which is similar to the soft threshold in threshold processing. The experimental results,presented in Figs.6 and 7 and Table 2,show preliminarily that our new method can enhance speech and intelligibility better than the existing methods in Refs.1 through 4.We would like to point out that,in our experiments,the well-known spectral subtraction method was used to enhance speech further.
