Abstract:An ultra-wideband suspended stripline (SSL) structure high-pass filter with multi-stubs is proposed. A quasi-lumped approach is used to design the filter based on a 7th-order Chebyshev high-pass filter. For the designed high-pass filter, from 5.7 to 30 GHz, the insertion loss is less than −0.5 dB and the return loss is better than −11 dB. From 5.7 to 20 GHz, the return loss is greater than −17 dB, while the suppression of filter is better than −57 dB below 5 GHz.

Abstract:Hi-Lo microstrip low-pass filter’s structure is simple and it is easy to processing.The conductor strip of the filter can be directly printed on the thin medium.So this type of filter is often used in the system as a frequency selective component to reject interference signal and harmonic signal.In this paper,according to the basic principle of transmission line,a X-band low-pass filter is designed to filter the secondary harmonic signal of 11GHz local oscillator signal.The filter is designed and simulated by electromagnetic simulation software HFSS.After optimization,the band rejection of 22GHz frequency can reach-38dB and the VSWR of 11GHz frequency can reach 1.13.The size of the final filter is 14mm 6mm 0.508mm.We made a real object and tested its properties,the test result can almost satisfy the requirement of the system.

Abstract:A set of miniaturized dual-band bandpass filters is presented with a quadruple-folded substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) implemented into each design. They were fabricated using standard low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) technology. The bandwidths of both passbands of the filters are adjustable independently by changing the geometrical parameters of the coupling structure. Two filter samples are demonstrated with central frequencies located at 2.4/5.2 and 2.4/5.7 GHz, respectively, and their measured S-parameters agree well with the simulated ones.

Abstract:One miniaturized multilayer dual-band bandpass filter (BPF) is developed using standard low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) technology. The filter makes use of four double-folded substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) resonators. Two sets of coupling paths between the source and load are implemented to generate dual-band responses. Utilizing this method, the two passbands can operate at independent frequencies and the bandwidth can be easily controlled. High isolation is obtained between two passbands, and two pairs of transmission zeros close to the passband edges are generated by source-load coupling, resulting in high skirt-selectivity. Good agreement between the simulated and measured results of the filter sample is obtained, with its high electrical performance validated.
Substrate-Integrated Waveguide Bandpass Filters with Planar Resonators for System-on-Package

Abstract:This paper proposes some novel substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) bandpass filters combined with planar resonators. According to specific topologies, microstrip lines with different electrical lengths are introduced into their designs. Their corresponding phase-shift characteristics are used to obtain the desired couplings between SIW cavities and the microstrip resonator. Two third-order filter samples are realized. One has a single transmission zero below the passband and the other possesses a quasi-elliptic response. Further, a fourth-order filter is developed by effectively superpositing two individual third-order topologies. It shows better frequency selectivity and flat in-band group delay, with good agreement between the measured and the simulated S -parameters. Their compactness and high rejection in the stopbands make them very suitable for system-on-package.

Abstract:This article proposes a three-dimensional heterogenous-integrated (3DHI) switchable bandpass filter bank with two independent wideband filter channels that cover 26-40 GHz and 32.5-40 GHz, respectively. An accurate wafer-level process with a high hollowed ratio of the applied 8-inch high-resistivity-silicon (HR-Si) interposer wafers is presented to form both compact filter channels. Above the interdigital filter patterns fabricated on the bottom interposer wafer, deep cavities are etched in the cap interposer wafer to improve the quality factor of the filter bank. Besides the cavities, the cap interposer wafer is 35% hollow inside, which two bare dies of GaAs single-pole double-throw (SPDT) switches and two thin film resistors are attached to the bottom interposer after the wafer-to-wafer (W2W) bonding. To ensure good out-of-band performance, a 3D EM co-simulation of the switch layout at the chip level and filter patterns at the package level is applied. Measurement results show that the switchable filter bank achieves a high isolation of 50 dB and a competitive shape factor (BW30dB/BW3dB) of about 1.3. In addition, the size of the switchable filter bank is only 7.0 mm x 3.5 mm x 0.6 mm, and the weight is only 0.1 g.

Abstract:In this paper, an ultra-wideband (UWB) bandpass filter with a frequency notch is designed and implemented. The proposed filter is based on coupled microstrip line with U-shaped defected ground structure (DGS). By introducing embedded open stubs (EOS) into input and output feed lines, the UWB bandpass filter can get a band-notched characteristic at the appointed frequency band. Several compensatory lines are introduced to compensate the damage bringing by EOS. The test results show that 3 dB pass-band is from 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz. The depth of the frequency notch is about -30 dB at 5.8 GHz, which is deep enough to choke back interference from other wireless communication systems operating at the same frequency. The insertion loss in the pass-band is less than 1 dB (including the insertion loss of two SMA connectors).

Abstract:In this letter, compact ultra-wideband filters are designed by employing a novel ridged half-mode folded substrate-integrated waveguide (RHMFSIW) and double-ridged half-mode SIW (DRHMSIW). The RHMFSIW is proposed by loading the half-mode folded substrate integrated waveguide with a ridge, where the ridge introduces additional capacitance hence leading to a lower cutoff frequency and a smaller size. Compact ultra-wideband filters are designed and fabricated based on the RHMFSIW. Another novel DRHMSIW is developed to implement the tight coupling required in the ultra-wideband filters. To improve the out-of-band rejection while keeping a small size, mixed coupling is employed in the ultra-wideband filter to generate transmission zeros. The proposed filters demonstrate the advantage of high selectivity, low loss, compact size, and easy integration with other electronic systems.

Abstract:A miniaturized suspended stripline (SSL) resonator with high unloaded quality factor is proposed in this paper. The novel resonator consists of a thin substrate with double-layer strips on both sides connected by a metallic via hole, which is suspended in the middle of an air-filled cavity and a pair of cuboid metal bricks located at the open end of the strips with a gap to realize capacitive loading. Based on a theoretical analysis of the equivalent circuit and the electric field distribution, the proposed resonator has been found possessing much higher unloaded quality factor and more compact size than the conventional SSL resonators. A compact pseudoelliptic filter centered at 670 MHz with a bandwidth of 160 MHz and a low insertion loss of approximately 0.38 dB is designed, fabricated, and measured. Two transmission zeros generated by cross coupling mechanism are located near the passband to enhance the frequency selectivity. The measured results show excellent agreement with the synthesized and simulated ones.

Abstract:This article presents an ultrawideband dual-bandpass frequency-selective surface (FSS) that exhibits outstanding transmission characteristics and a miniaturization feature in the required frequency band. In order to obtain a dual-band filtering response, initially, a specific topological structure of a dual-band bandpass microwave filter is theoretically investigated, and using periodic structures with capacitive, inductive, or resonant-type surface impedances synthesizes its components. Subsequently, employing a compact cascaded hybrid resonant element to construct the FSS, which is composed of convoluted strip grids (CSGs), convoluted square rings (CSRs), and square rings arranged on different layers. In addition, an accurate equivalent circuit model (ECM) is constructed to analyze the working mechanism of the proposed FSS. Finally, the designed FSS is made and measured. The results indicate that the designed FSS achieved −3-dB bandwidths of 105.4% from 1.01 to 3.26 GHz and 47.8% from 3.75 to 6.10 GHz, respectively. At the center frequency of the first passband, the FSS's size is as compact as . The test results obtained are in good agreement with the results of the full-wave simulation and show excellent resonant stability with respect to different polarizations and incident angles up to 45°.

Abstract:In this paper, we present the design and fabrication of an ultra-wideband (UWB) bandpass HTS filter using quarter-wavelength shunt-stub. The filter structure is improved to miniature the filter size. An UWB filter with a fractional bandwidth of 87% at 785 MHz is designed and fabricated. The measured results show an insertion loss of less than 0. 21dB, a return loss of better than 15.6dB, out of band rejection higher than 65dB, and the rectangle coefficient of 1.3 without tuning. Furthermore, the measured results are in good agreement with the simulated ones.

Abstract:A new structure of ultra‐wide band (UWB) band pass filter is proposed in this letter. The proposed UWB filter consists of a low pass filter and a quasi‐high pass filter. The low pass frequency characteristic is realized with a dumbbell defected ground structure (DGS) array and narrow slots, the corresponding cut‐off frequency is tuned to 10.7 GHz by adjusting sizes of each dumbbell and their spacing. The quasi‐high pass filter consists of two symmetrical inter‐digital capacitors. The cut‐off frequency is about 3.0 GHz. Combining these two structures we obtain a new structure of UWB band pass filter. An experimental UWB filter was fabricated, the measured results show that the insertion loss is less than 1.5 dB throughout the passband of 3.0–10.8 GHz, the variation of group delay less than 0.25 ns in this band, and a wide stopband bandwidth with 20 dB attenuation up‐to 20.0 GHz. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract:A compact highpass filter employing shorted stubs is presented in this paper for Ultra Wideband (UWB) systems. The filter is composed of 9 shorted stubs at regular intervals. In order to obtain compact filter structure, the main transmission line is been bended. The design formulas are derived by using an equivalent model of a parallel coupled transmission line. In order to validate the feasibility of the proposed design method, a 9 order highpass filter is designed and simulated. In the last part of the paper, we summary the simulated results and put forward the improvement of this filter. © 2012 IEEE.

Abstract:This letter presents a superconducting ultra-wideband (UWB) bandpass filter (BPF) with sharp rejection skirts and miniaturized size using multiple-mode resonator (MMR). The MMR is formed by loading a stepped-impedance open-end stub in shunt to a modified stepped-impedance resonator (SIR). The modified SIR generates three resonant modes within the 3.1-10.6 GHz UWB band, whereas the stepped-impedance open-end stub creates two transmission zeros and two additional resonant modes improving the bandedge steepness. Interdigital coupled-lines are used for the external couplings to enhance the coupling strength. A superconducting UWB BPF is realized with a compact size of 20 mm 11 mm. The measured results without any tuning show good performance. The insertion loss at the center frequency is 0.58 dB, the return loss is greater than 10.6 dB, and the group delay variation is less than 1.76 ns. Furthermore, the experimental results of the filter are in good agreement with the simulated ones.
Miniaturized Suspended Strip-Line Bandpass Filter Based on Spoof Surface Plasmon Polaritons

Abstract:In this letter, we propose the design of miniaturized suspended strip-line (SSL) filters based on spoof surface plasmon polariton (SSPP), a sub-wavelength mode confined tightly around artificial structures. To avoid using high-density lossy dielectric fillings, we place a periodic corrugated metallic strips (PCMS) structure in a rectangular metallic cavity. Two probes are positioned near the two ends of PCMS structure. Since PCMS structure support SSPP with shorter wavelength, it can be treated as low-loss artificial dielectrics with high permittivity epsilon(r) equivalently. The cut-off frequency f(l)(ower) waveguide modes in the cavity will be reduced, which, plus the cut-off frequency f(upper) of SSPP, will produce a pass band between f(l)(ower) and f(upper). Due to high epsilon(r), low insertion loss and light weight of the PCMS structure, miniaturized band-pass filters can be implemented using such a configuration. We demonstrated a prototype operating a bandpass filter in 2.7-4.6 GHz. The cross-section of cavity is reduced by more than 75%. The filter is with quite low insertion loss only 0.1-0.3 dB. Both simulation and measurement results verify this design. This work provides an alternative to miniaturized, light-weight, high-efficiency SSL filters.

Abstract:A design of a miniaturized LTCC filter based on the theory of multilayer stripline is presented in this paper,which can satisfy the requirement of miniaturizing the radio communication system.Due to the tiny structure of those two resonators which are achieved respectively by coupled stripline of two layers and three layers,both filters possess effectively reduced size.In the design,the four order filter is modeled with Ansoft HFSS,while there exists cross-coupling between the first and forth order.In addition,both high port and low port achieve transmission zero points to increase selectivity of the filter.

Abstract:In this paper, a new design of miniaturized frequency selective surface (FSS) with ultra-wide bandpass response is proposed. Unlike the previous bandpass UWB FSSs, we focus on the realization of low frequency band, such as S, L or even lower band. The FSS consists of three layers of metallization separated from one another by thin dielectric substrates. It has a small size of λ 0 /29 and a thickness of λ 0 /40 for the lower passband. Simulation results show a stable transmission response for different polarizations and incident angles.

Abstract:A highly selective superconducting ultra‐wideband filter with a passband from 125 to 260 MHz is designed and demonstrated using a microstrip structure. The filter is designed according to a circuit model for an optimum short‐circuited stub transmission‐line filter and consists of 10 shunt short‐circuited stubs separated by connecting lines. The short‐circuited stubs are quarter‐wavelength long, and the connecting lines are half‐wavelength long. The filter is realized on two 3‐inch YBCO/LaAlO 3 substrates, which are connected by two bonding wires. The short‐circuited stubs are grounded via two grounding pads that are attached to the box wall by a number of SiAl bonding wires. The measured results exhibit a selective filtering characteristic equivalent to a 19‐pole Chebyshev filter and a low insertion loss of less than 0.1 dB at center frequency without tuning. Furthermore, the experimental results of the filter are in good agreement with the simulated ones. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract:In this paper, compact ultra-wideband (UWB) bandpass filters with ultra-narrow dual- and quad-notched bands are proposed using the broadside-coupled microstrip/coplanar waveguide (CPW) structure. The multiple-modes UWB operation is obtained through the CPW detached-mode resonator (DMR) and broadside-coupled microstrip/CPW transition. To avoid the existing interferences such as the wireless local-area network signals (i.e., 5.2- and 5.8-GHz bands) in the UWB passband simultaneously, dual-notched bands can be finely employed and independently adjusted by the embedded quarter-wavelength (λ/4) CPW resonators and the λ/4 meander slot-line inserted in the DMR, respectively. To further cancel the interferences from the 3.5-GHz worldwide interoperability for microwave access and 6.8-GHz RF identification communication, the λ/4 meander defected microstrip structure is employed. Based on the structures mentioned above, a series of UWB bandpass filters with dual- and quad-notched bands are then designed and fabricated. With good passband/stopband performances, compact size, and low cost, the proposed filters are attractive for the practical applications.
