Abstract:The perovskite nanoparticles such as BaTiO3, SrTiO3, BaZrO3 and their solid solutions can be prepared using a new method, DSS, near room temperature. Hydrogen interstitials are introduced into the lattice of perovskite nanoparticles synthesized by DSS method so that the nanoparticles take positive charges and adsorb the hydroxyl group with negative charges on the surface. Hydroxyl groups adsorbed on the surface of nanoparticles can be ionized freely, and the nanoparticles exhibit an alkalescent property. When this kind of perovskite nanopaticles disperses in a certain solution of inorganic salt such as Mg(NO3)2 center dot 6H2O, Zn(NO3)2 center dot 6H2O, Al(NO3)3 center dot 9H2O, Y(NO3)3 center dot 6H2O etc., the hydroxide related to these salts spontaneously deposit on the surface of the nanoparticles, as a result, a perovskite structure nanoscaled core materials are successfully self-wrapped by a non-ferroelectric hydroxide derived from a nitrate salt solution. After annealing at high temperature, core-shell structured perovskite nanoparticles with heterogeneous oxide shells can be synthesized. When the core-shell structured perovskite nanoparticles with heterogeneous oxide shells are composited with doped shell oxide materials, the pinning effect during sintering can be avoided, as a result, the sintering temperature are decreased and dense ceramics are obtained. The core-shell structures are analyzed by a conjunction of XRD, HRTEM and FE-SEM. The lattice match of shell and core in our ceramics of MZO wrapped BST nanoparticles probably follows the second match mode. The tunability and FOM values of the ceramics of MZO wrapped BST nanoparticles have been improved significantly compared with that of pure BST ceramics. The ceramics of MZO wrapped BST nanoparticles are promising materials for tunable microwave device applications and high energy density ceramic capacitors for their distinct dielectric loss improvement.Core-shell structured nanoparticles received much attention for their unique physical and chemical properties, as well as their technological applications.[1-7] With oxide shells, they are also interesting from a number of perspectives. [8-11] The shells offer protection to the cores as well as introduce new properties to the hybrid structures.[12] This kind of hybrid structures can have advantages of both the core and the shell. Perovskite oxides such as BaTiO3, SrTiO3, PbTiO3, BaZrO3, PbZrO3 etc. is a series of important functional materials with a formula of ABO3, and most of them can form solid solution with each other while keeping a perovskite structure. The perovskite ceramics are important for their ferroelectricity and anti-ferroelectricity, which find a wide variety of applications in nonlinear optics, thin-film capacitors, pyroelectric detectors, optical memories, and electrooptic modulators [13]. However, with the reduction in grain size, the ratio of grain boundary to grain of the ceramics will increase and degenerate their electrical properties. In order to improve the properties of the ceramics, introduction of heterogeneous oxide shells which have outstanding properties, such as very low dielectric loss, is a wonderful choice. Self-wrapping MgO shell to BST nanoparticles is a successful example which can be applied for microwave materials.[14-15] Fabrication of this kind of core-shell structured perovskite nanoparticles with heterogeneous oxide shells and their ceramics will be discussed here and self-wrapping MgO shell to Ba1-xSrxTiO3 (BST) nanoparticles will be used as an example.
