Abstract:Polymer (hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (LD HPAM)) or hydrophobic associative polymer (AP-P4)) solutions with different viscosity-average relative molecular masses were prepared by UV light degradation, and crude oil emulsions containing the above either polymer with different concentrations were prepared. Effects of type, viscosity-average relative molecular mass and concentration of the polymers on crude oil demulsification were studied by measuring dehydration rates, interfacial tensions and partition coefficients of the crude oil emulsions. The results showed that the main factors affecting crude oil demulsification were the type and viscosity-average relative molecular mass of the polymers. LD HPAM could obviously enhance stability of the crude oil emulsion when its viscosity-average relative molecular mass was more than 1.14×106.Compared with LD HPAM, effect of AP-P4 on the crude oil emulsion was more obvious due to hydrophobic groups in its moleculars, which made adsorption of AP-P4onto the interface of oil/water easy. When mass concentration of AP-P4was more than 300 mg/L, the dehydration rate of the crude oil emulsion was only 20% after being rested in water bath at 55°C for 2h, while for LD HPAM with the same mass concentration the dehydration rate was 60%.
