Abstract:Three new triterpenoid derivatives, named (15 alpha)-15-hydroxysoyasapogenol B (1), (7 beta,15 alpha)-7,15-dihydroxysoyasapogenol B (2), and (7 beta)-7,29-dihydroxysoyasapogenol B (3), were isolated from cultures of the plant endophytic fungus Pestalotiopsis clavispora. Their structures and relative configurations were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis and X-ray crystallography.

Abstract:Five new nortriterpenoids, schicagenins D-F (1-3, resp.) and negleschidilactones A and B (4 and 5, resp.), together with eleven known ones, were isolated from the stems of Schisandra neglecta. Their structures were established on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analyses. All the compounds were evaluated for their activities regarding insulin sensitivity in 3T3-L1 differentiated adipocytes. None of them showed a significant bioactivity at 10M concentration.

Abstract:Two new stilbenoids, stemobenoids A (1) and B (2), together with three known compounds were obtained from the roots of Stemona tuberosa. The structures of the new compounds were established by extensive spectroscopic analysis, including HRMS, 1D and 2D NMR data. Abstract:Two new 18-norschiartane-type schinortriterpenoids, namely wuwezidilactones Q (1) and R (2) were isolated from the stems of Schisandra lancifolia. Their structures were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis. The absolute configurations of the new compounds were further determined by ROESY and an empirical comparison of their experimental ECD spectra with literature.

Abstract:Schicagenins A-C (1-3), three unprecedented nortriterpenoids characterized with a tetracyclic oxa-cage motif and C(9) side chain, were discovered from the leaves and stems of Schisandra chinensis. Their structures were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis, and the absolute stereochemistries were established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and CD experiments. A plausible biosynthetic pathway of 1-3 was also discussed.

Abstract:Five new dibenzocyclooctadiene lignans, schisphenlignans A-E (1-5), together with eight known ones, were isolated from the stems of Schisandra sphenanthera. The structures of 1-5 were elucidated based on the analysis of their NMR, MS and circular dichroism (CD) spectra. Some isolates were tested for their acute activities on insulin sensitivity in 3T3-L1 differentiated adipocytes, but none of them showed significant bioactivity with 10 mu M administration of the tested compounds.

Abstract:Fifteenlanostane triterpenoids were isolated from the ethanol extract of Ganoderma theaecolum by means of preparative HPLC,column chromatography over silica gel,ODS and were identified as lucidone C(1),lucidone D(2),7-oxo-ganoderic acid Z2(3),7-oxo-ganoderic acid Z(4),ganoderenicacid H(5),ganoderenic acid B(6),3β,7β-dihydroyl-11,15,23-trioxo-lanost-8,16-dien-26-oic acid(7),3β,7β-dihydroyl-11,15,23-trioxo-lanost-8,16-dien-26-oic acid methyl ester(8),ganolucidic acid B(9),ganolucidate F(10),methyl ganoderate C2(11),ganoderic acid ζ(12),ganoderic acid AP3(13),methyl ganoderate B(14),and ganoderol B(15). Compounds 1-15 were isolated from this specie for the first time.

Abstract:Ten new triterpenoids, schiglausins A-J (1-10), as well as four known compounds, were isolated from the stems of Schisandra glaucescens. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic methods, including extensive NMR spectra and CD experiment. Compound 8 was determined to be a norlanostane triterpenoid. The crystal structure of compound 1 has been determined using single-crystal X-ray analysis while its absolute configuration was assigned on the basis of the CD spectrum. All isolates were tested for their FXR agonistic and antagonistic effects.

Abstract:Schisandra chinensis (Turcz) Baill. is sufficiently well known as a medicinal plant worldwide, which modern research shows has many pharmacological activities such as hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory effect, potent anti-HIV-1 activity, anti-tumor effect, and activity on the central nervous system. With considerable chemical investigation, three new triterpenoids (1–3), together with four known triterpenoids were isolated from the S. chinensis (Turcz) Baill. Their structures were elucidated by 1D- and 2D-NMR spectroscopic analyses, single-crystal X-ray diffraction and high-resolution mass spectroscopy, which were identified as Schisanlactone I (1), Schinalactone D, (2), Schisanlactone J, (3) Kadsuphilactone B (4), Schisanlactone C (5), Schisphendilactone B (6), and Schinchinenlactone A (7). The cytotoxicity of those compounds (1–7) was tested against Hep-G2 cell lines, but no apparent antitumor activity was observed at 50 µg/mL using MTT method.

Abstract:Thirty new pentacyclic triterpenoids, including five oleanane-type (1−5), twenty-three ursane-type (9−23, 26−33) and two taraxerane-type (24 and 25), along with fourteen known triterpenoids, were isolated from the stems and branches of Enkianthus chinensis. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analyses, X-ray crystallographic data and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) techniques. Sixteen compounds (1−5, 9−13, 20, 22, 32, 34−36) bearing a gem-hydroxymethyl group at C-4 represent rare examples of pentacyclic triterpenoids. In the in vitro biological activity evaluation, compounds 8, 9, 12−14, 17, 24, and 44 exhibited potent hepatoprotective effects at 10 μM. Moreover, compound 25 showed latent activity against HSV-1 with an IC50 value of 6.4 μM.

Abstract:Six new phenolic glycosides (1-6) and thirteen known compounds (7-19) were isolated from the roots of Scrophularia ningpoensis. Their structures were determined through comprehensive analyses of the physicochemical properties and spectroscopic data (1D NMR, 2D NMR, and HR-ESI-MS). The anti-inflammatory potential of all compounds was evaluated by determining their ability to inhibit lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced NO production in RAW 264.7 macrophage cells. In addition, the cytotoxicity of all compounds on HepG2, 4T1 and A549 cell lines was also evaluated.

Abstract:Novel sesquiterpene, named crossostephin ( 1), and coumarin, named biscopoletin ( 2), together with four known compounds, artesin, tanacetin, scopoletin, and scopolin, were isolated from the 70% ethanolic extract of the whole herbs of Crossostephium chinense ( L.) Makino. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic methods, including IR, UV, EIMS, HRFTICRMS, 1D and 2D NMR spectral analyses. Both scopoletin and scopolin were isolated from the title plant for the first time.

On the basis of 1D and 2D NMR, HR-ESI-MS, and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopic analysis, structures of the new compounds were elucidated as 2-(2′-methoxy-4′-hydroxy)-aryl-3-methy-6-hydroxy-benzofuran (1), (2S)-6,7-(2,2-dimethyldihydropyrano)-8-prenyl-4′-hydroxyflavanone (2), and 6-prenyl-7,3′,4′-trihydroxyflavone (3). Compounds 1, 3, 5, 12, 14, 15 and 16 showed antioxidant activity by an ABTS-based assay.

Thus, the structure elucidation of saponin 2, known as Glycoside L-G1 or Sinofoside A, was discussed and the unambiguous assignments were given.

Abstract:Objective: To isolate and elucidate the constituents from stem of Chirita longgangensis var. hongyao. Method: The constituents were extracted with methanol and isolated by chromatography on silica gel, Sephadex LH-20 and ODS. The structures were determined by NMR and MS spectral analysis. Result: Five phenylethanoid glycosides were identified as 3, 4-dihydroxyphenyl alcohol-beta-D-glucopyranoside (1), 3, 4-dihydroxyphenyl alcohol-6-O-caffeoyl--D-glucopyranoside (calceolarioside B) (2), 3, 4-dihydroxyphenyl alcohol-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 --> 3)-6-O-caffeoyl-beta-D-glucopyranoside (plantainoside D) (3), 3, 4-dihydroxyphenyl alcohol-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 --> 3)-4-O-caffeoyl-beta-D-glucopyranoside (plantamajoside) (4), 3, 4-dihydroxyphenyl alcohol-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 --> 3)-6-O-feruloyl-beta-D-glucopyranoside (scroside E) (5), respectively. Conclusion: Compounds 3 and 5 were isolated for the first time from the family Gesneriaceae, and compounds 1, 2 and 4 were isolated for the first time from the genus Chirita.
