Abstract:Dictyostelid cellular slime molds (dictyostelids) are key components of soil microbes. The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is characterized by unique and important forest types because of the considerable range in elevation which exists. During the period of 2012, 2013 and 2016, 12 species of dictyostelids were yielded from samples collected in this region, including two new species and three new records for China. Six other species were new records for this region. Ontogeny, morphology, ultrastructure and systematic molecular analyses (SSU & ITS) of D. minimum and D. multiforme confirm that they are Goup 4 new species. The ornamentation of the surface of dictyostelids' spores is the first time to be observed until now. In the SSU phylogenetic tree generated in the present study, Synstelium, not assigned to order and family before, was assigned to the clade Acytosteliaceae in the Acytosteliales firstly. To our knowledge, the study reported herein is the first investigation of dictyostelid biodiversity carried out at elevations above 2000 m. Sorocarp size, sorus size, spore length, ratio of sorus and sorophore, and ratio of sorus and spore size were positively correlated with increasing elevation and no linear correlated with forest type, according to the results of linear regression analysis.

Abstract:Dictydiaethalium dictyosporangium, described as new, is characterized by a branched pseudocapillitium and spores, which are 10–12 μm in diam. and ornamented with long ridges that sometimes form an incomplete banded reticulum. The new species, which was collected on the bark of a dead log in Henan Province, is described and illustrated by light and scanning electron micrographs. A key to three known Dictydiaethalium species is also provided. The holotype is deposited in the Herbarium of Mycological Institute of Jilin Agricultural University (HMJAU) in Changchun, China.

Abstract:Background Dictyostelid cellular slime molds (dictyostelids) are microscopic throughout their entire life cycle. The vegetative phase consists of single-celled amoeboid forms which live in the soil/leaf litter microhabitat of fields and forests along with animal dung, where they feed upon bacteria and other microbes, grow, and multiply until the available food supply is exhausted. When this happens, the amoeboid forms aggregate together in large numbers to form multi-celled pseudoplasmodia, which then give rise to fruiting bodies (sorocarps) that consist of supportive stalks and unwalled sori containing propagative spores. Results Dictyostelium purpureum var. pseudosessile , a new variant of dictyostelid, is described herein, based on morphological features and molecular data. This new variant was isolated from soil samples collected in two tropical areas of China. The complete spore-to-spore life cycle of this species, which required 50 h, including spore germination, myxamoebae, cell aggregation, pseudoplasmodium, and sorocarp formation, was documented. Descriptions and illustrations are provided for this species based on our collections. Data from ontogeny, morphology and phylogeny analyses (SSU) of D. purpureum var. pseudosessile confirm that it is a Group 4 species according to the newly proposed classification of dictyostelids. Conclusions Our results suggest that the violet sori, widens at the midpoint of sorophore and simple recurved sorophore bases represent the prominent features for the new variant D. purpureum var. pseudosessile . The latter is a Group 4 species now known from two tropical areas of China where dictyostelids remains understudied.

Abstract:Dictyostelium annularibasimum was described from Jiangsu Province, China based on morphological and molecular evidences. It is characterized by a loop structure and clustered habit. The internally transcribed spacer (ITS) of the nuclear ribosomal DNA was sequenced and found to be distinct from all previously described sequences. Phylogenetic analyses suggest this new isolate to be included in group 4 of a comprehensive phylogeny of dictyostelids, together with Dictyostelium purpureum.

Two of these species (Dictyostelium multistipes and D. gracile) are new to China, and D. clavatum is recorded for the first time in the northern part of the country, being known previously only from Taiwan. Abstract:Dianema macrosporum is described as a new taxon, characterized by large spores (about 15-19 mu m in diam.) and mouse grey colour at the margin of the sporotheca, based on material collected from Liaoning Province in China. Description and illustration of the new species by means of scanning electron micrographs and a key to the species of the genus are provided herein. The holotype specimen has been deposited in the Herbarium of the Mycological Institute of Jilin Agricultural University (HMJAU), Changchun, China.

Abstract:Two novel species within the family Dictyosporiaceae are described and illustrated from terrestrial habitats on dead culms of bamboo and an unidentified plant, respectively. Through morphological comparisons and the multi-locus phylogenetic analyses of combined LSU, ITS, SSU, and tef1-α sequence dataset, two species, Gregarithecium bambusicola, Pseudocoleophoma paraphysoidea are identified. Phylogenetically, both species clustered into a monophyletic clade with strong bootstrap support. Gregarithecium bambusicola sp. nov. can be distinguished from other species within the genus based on its almost straight ascospores. Pseudocoleophoma paraphysoidea sp. nov. differs from other species in its conidiogenous cells intermixed with paraphyses, longer conidiogenous cells and larger conidia. The identification of this lineage contributes to our understanding of the classification of Dictyosporiaceae.

Abstract:Dictyostelids represent a crucial element in the protist community, and their abundant presence in Jilin Province underscores their indispensable role in biodiversity conservation. In the present study, a resource survey of dictyostelids used random sampling to collect 28 soil samples from five localities in Changbai Korean Autonomous County, Jilin Province. In addition, a compilation of dictyostelid species reported from Jilin Province was developed, based on a thorough review of the literature. The survey yielded fifteen isolates of dictyostelids, comprising six species from four genera. Notably, two new species (Dictyostelium longigracilis sp. nov. and Dictyostelium macrosoriobrevipes sp. nov.) were described using morphological characteristics and SSU gene-based phylogenetic analyses. One other species (Polysphondylium patagonicum) was recorded as new for China, while another (Cavenderia aureostipes) was recorded as a new record for Jilin Province. The dictyostelid assemblage in Jilin Province is dominated by the genus Dictyostelium (51.4%), with a total of 35 species, which represent 59.3% of the current total known for all of China. These findings provide a scientific basis for the protection of species diversity and resource utilization of dictyostelids in Jilin Province.

Abstract:A new myxomycete species, Didymium arenosum , was described based on morphological evidence and phylogenetic analyses. The species was discovered in the arid region at the confluence of the Badain Jaran desert and Tengger desert on the leaves of Betula platyphylla and was cultivated in a moist chamber culture. Morphologically, the species is distinguished by the greenish-yellow calcium carbonate crystals on the surface and the spores covered with small warts, some of which are connected into a short line. A phylogenetic analysis of D. arenosum strongly supports its classification as a separate clade. The spore to spore agar culture of D . arenosum requires 23 days, and this study provides a detailed description of its life cycle.

Abstract:Microdochium includes important plant pathogens, parasitic in economically important wheat, barley, rice and corn, caus-ing economic losses. A new species, Microdochium chuxiongense, was isolated from the host Bondarzewia sp. and reported from China. It was characterized by mycelium immersed and superficial and branched. Conidiophores were cylindrical, borne from the hyphae. Conidiogenous cells were sparse, hyaline, solitary, occasionally curved or swollen. Conidia were single or multiple, long oval, shuttle or sickle, straight or curved, and 0(???3)-septate. Chlamydospores were produced directly from mycelium, single, round or palmate. It was well-supported based on morphological characters and molecular evidence (LSU, ITS, tub2 and rpb2), and was a distinct species within the genus Microdochium. This work increases our understand-ing of the distribution and host diversity in this group, and provides important taxonomic data to further explore evolutionary relationships in the species of Microdochium.

Abstract:Craterium yichunensis sp. nov., and C. dictyosporum are described and illustrated. They were found in Heilongjiang Province, China, and C. dictyosporum is a new record for China. Craterium yichunensis differs from other species of Craterium in having sessile sporocarps with a thick lid, the middle part of which is more than 100 μm thick, with a yellow membrane covering the cup after lid has fallen off. Additionally, it has no columella or pseudocolumella. Both species are also illustrated with scanning electron micrographs.

Abstract:A fungus within the family Dictyosporiaceae was isolated from submerged-decaying wood in Sichuan Province, China. Combined ITS, LSU, SSU and tef1 sequence data showed that the species represented a new genus and is described here as Neodigitodesmium cheirosporum gen. et sp. nov. Neodigitodesmium distinct from other genera in the family Dictyosporiaceae based on a hyaline and holoblastic basal connecting conidiogenous cell, conical shaped and smaller with fewer rows (1–4) of conidia. In addition, phylogenetic analysis and morphological comparison showed that the recently introduced genus Paradictyocheirospora is congeneric with Digitodesmium. Based on these results, Paradictyocheirospora is reduced to synonymy under the older generic name Digitodesmium.

Abstract:A new Dactylella species, Dactylella alba was isolated from the ascospores of Orbilia alba collected in Wenshan County, Yunnan Province, China. Conidiophores were either not branched or occasionally branched, bearing divergent sterigmata on the tip with single conidium on each. Conidia were elongated ellipsoids, 1–2 septate, mostly 1 septate. By combining the ITS sequence with morphological characteristics, a new anamorphic species is described and illustrated together with its teleomorph.

Abstract:An anamorphic fungus was isolated from fresh specimens of Orbilia species collected in Yunnan Province, China. The fungus was characterized by very short conidiophores and 1–5 septate cylindrical conidia, and most closely related phylogenetically to Dactylella vermiformis that produces branched conidiophores and 0–1 septate conidia, but the calculated similarity of ITS sequences was only 83% between the two fungus species. Considering the morphological characteristics and the calculated similarity value, a new species, Dactylella pseudobrevistipitata, was described with holotype YMF 1.03504.
