In order to achieve the safety and dependability of the subway operation, the subway maintenance is absolutely necessary. The primary purpose of the study is to analyze the factors that affect the safety risk of the subway maintenance operation and identify safety hazard during the subway maintenance process. Existing research has paid more attention to safety risk of industry maintenance, aviation maintenance, chemical process maintenance etc. And it also analyzed the management information system of subway maintenance. Nevertheless, few viewpoints focused on the safety risk of the subway maintenance operation and the maintenance-related accident cause. Recognizing the safety hazard, accident causes and safety factors during the subway maintenance operation offers the potential for improving the safety of the subway maintenance workers, as many fields have sought kinds of methods to improve the safety of the workers. The aim of the paper is to analyze the safety hazard, accident causes and safety factors of the subway maintenance operation. A detailed literature review on the maintenance-related safety is firstly conducted, echoing the major research findings. Then, this paper will introduce the possible safety hazard of the subway maintenance operation. Furthermore, it also will attempt to give the safety factors that affect the subway maintenance operation on the basic of the other related fields research. Finally, the relativity and vali- ity of these safety factors and safety hazard of the subway maintenance operation will be tested by a large-scale questionnaire. The paper is a pilot study of the safety risk of the subway maintenance operation, serving as a starting point and foundation for the further investigation on the prediction of the safety risk on the subway maintenance operation.
