Abstract:A Finsler metric is of sectional flag curvature if its flag curvature depends only on the section. In this article, we characterize Randers metrics of sectional flag curvature. It is proved that any non-Riemannian Randers metric of sectional flag curvature must have constant flag curvature if the dimension is greater than two.

Differential Geometry and its Applications

Abstract:Finsler metrics of sectional flag curvature is studied in this paper. It is proved that every weakly Landsberg space with nonzero sectional flag curvature and every closed Finsler space with negative sectional flag curvature must be Riemannian if the dimension ⩽7. We also obtain some pinching results in all dimensions.

Abstract:The flag curvature of a Finsler metric is called a Riemannian quantity because it is an extension of sectional curvature in Riemannian geometry. In Finsler geometry, there are several non-Riemannian quantities such as the (mean) Cartan torsion, the (mean) Landsberg curvature and the S-curvature, which all vanish for Riemannian metrics. It is important to understand the geometric meanings of these quantities. In this paper, we study Finsler metrics of scalar curvature (i.e., the flag curvature is a scalar function on the slit tangent bundle) and partially determine the flag curvature when certain non-Riemannian quantities are isotropic. Using the obtained formula for the flag curvature, we classify locally projectively flat Randers metrics with isotropic S-curvature.

Abstract:A characteristic for a complex Randers metric to be a complex Berwald metric is obtained. The formula of the holomorphic curvature for complex Randers metrics is given. It is shown that a complex Berwald Randers metric with isotropic holomorphic curvature must be either usually Kählerian or locally Minkowskian. The Deicke and Brickell theorems in complex Finsler geometry are also proved.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that two Randers metrics are pointwise projectively related if and only if they have the same Douglas tensors and the corresponding Riemannian metrics are projectively related. Moreover, Randers metrics of constant flag curvature and Einstein–Randers metrics are considered.

Abstract:A generalized Einstein-Hilbert functional in Finsler geometry is defined and its Euler-Lagrange equation is derived, which depends on not only the Ricci scalar but also the mean Landsberg curvature. Such critical metrics include usual Riemann-Einstein metrics. Some non-Riemannian examples of critical metrics are given. Moreover, some rigidity theorems for a Finsler metric to be Riemannian are obtained.

Abstract:A Finsler metric F is said to be spherically symmetric if the orthogonal group O(n) acts as isometries of F. In this paper, we show that every spherically symmetric Finsler metric of isotropic Berwald curvature is a Randers metric. We also construct explicitly a lot of new isotropic Berwald spherically symmetric Finsler metrics.

Abstract:In this article we first show that any finite cover of the moduli space of closed Riemann surfaces of genus $g$ with $g\geq 2$ does not admit any Riemannian metric $ds^2$ of nonnegative scalar curvature such that $ds^2 \succ ds_{T}^2$ where $ds_{T}^2$ is the Teichm\"uller metric. Our second result is the proof that any cover $M$ of the moduli space $\mathbb{M}_{g}$ of a closed Riemann surface $S_{g}$ does not admit any complete Riemannian metric of uniformly positive scalar curvature in the quasi-isometry class of the Teichm\"uller metric, which implies a conjecture of Farb-Weinberger.
The Geometric Meaning of Randers Metrics With Isotropic S-curvature

Abstract:The Zermelo navigation on Riemannian manifolds provides a succinct and geometric description of Randers metrics. With this description, D. Bao, C. Robles and Z. Shen have completely classified Randers metrics of constant flag curvature. In this paper, I study Randers metrics under the navigation description and discover two sufficient and necessary conditions for Randers metrics of special curvature properties, which are more geometrically meaningful than the traditional description. And several propositions and examples resulted from these conditions are included. Furthermore, I investigate thoroughly with Randers metrics of Berwald type under the navigation description.

Abstract:In this paper, we study Finsler metrics of constant S-curvature. First we produce infinitely many Randers metrics with non-zero (constant) S-curvature which have vanishing H-curvature. They are counterexamples to Theorem 1.2 in [20]. Then we show that the existence of (alpha, beta)-metrics with arbitrary constant S-curvature in each dimension which is not Randers type by extending Li-Shen' construction.

Abstract:The Weyl curvature of a Finsler metric is investigated. This curvature constructed from Riemannain curvature. It is an important projective invariant of Finsler metrics. The author gives the necessary conditions on Weyl curvature for a Finsler metric to be Randers metric and presents examples of Randers metrics with non-scalar curvature. A global rigidity theorem for compact Finsler manifolds satisfying such conditions is proved. It is showed that for such a Finsler manifold, if Ricci scalar is negative, then Finsler metric is of Randers type.

By investigating the second-order differential equation for a class of Randers metrics with isotropic S-curvature, we give a global classification of these metrics of scalar curvature, generalizing a theorem previously only known in the case of locally projectively flat Randers metrics.

Abstract: In this paper, we classify the spherically symmetric Berwald metrics in $\mathbb{R}^n$. For the spherically symmetric Landsberg metrics, we prove that there do not exist any non-Berwald metrics among the regular case. The partial differential equation systems which can respectively characterize the spherically symmetric Finsler metrics with constant flag curvature and Einstein metrics of this type is also obtained. Utilizing these equations, we find an effective way to construct the non-projective, non-Randers Finsler metrics with constant flag curvature and many explicit examples are given by this method.

Abstract:In this article, we characterize two particular closed Finsler spaces in terms of the flag curvature tensor. That is, with respect to the L_2 inner product of the space of all symmetric 2-tensor on the projective sphere bundle, a Finsler structure has Landsberg (Berwald resp.) type if and only if its flag curvature tensor is orthogonal to some given line (plane resp.). Using a result of Akbar-Zadeh we give a unifying description for three special closed Finsler manifolds.

Abstract:The flag curvature is a natural extension of the sectional curvature in Riemannian geometry. However there are many non-Riemannian quantities which interact the flag curvature. In this paper, we introduce a notion of weighted flag curvature by modifying the flag curvature with the non-Riemannian quantity, T-curvature. We show that a proper open forward complete Finsler manifold with positive weighted flag curvature is necessarily diffeomorphic to the Euclidean space.

Abstract:In the present paper, we study the Randers metric on two-spheres of revolution in order to obtain new families of Finsler of Randers type metrics with simple cut locus. We determine the geodesics behavior, conjugate and cut loci of some families of Finsler metrics of Randers type whose navigation data is not a Killing field and without sectional or flag curvature restrictions. Several examples of Randers metrics whose cut locus is simple are shown.

Abstract:One of the fundamental problems in Finsler geometry is to study Finsler metrics of constant (or scalar) curvature. In this paper, we refine and improve Chen-Shen-Zhao equations characterizing Finsler warped product metrics of scalar flag curvature. In particular, we find equations that characterize Finsler warped product metrics of constant flag curvature. Then we improve the Chen-Shen-Zhao result on characterizing Einstein Finsler warped product metrics. As its application we construct explicitly many new warped product Douglas metrics of constant Ricci curvature by using known locally projectively flat spherically symmetric metrics of constant flag curvature.

Abstract:In this short article, using a left-invariant Randers metric $F$, we define a new left-invariant Randers metric $\tilde{F}$. We show that $F$ is of Berwald (Douglas) type if and only if $\tilde{F}$ is of Berwald (Douglas) type. In the case of Berwaldian metrics, we give the relation between their flag curvatures. Also, we have studied the relations between their base Riemannian metrics. Finally, as examples, the results are studied in the Heisenberg group and almost Abelian Lie groups.
