Abstract:Background: Solid pseudopapillary neoplasm of the pancreas (SPNP) is a tumor of low malignant potential, and has been increasingly reported in recent years. Aims: To summarize the clinicopathologic features of SPNP. Methods: A total of 293 SPNP patients were retrieved from China Hospital Knowledge Database (CHKD) using solid-cystic neoplasm/pancreas or solid-pseudopapillary tumor/pancreas as key words from Oct. 1997 to Aug. 2008, and the clinicopathologic features of these patients were analyzed. Results: The ratio of male to female in SPNP was 1:8.2, the average age was 27.3 years old, and the clinical manifestations were nonspecific. Imaging findings of SPNP showed solid and cystic areas in different proportion, and the diagnosis rate was 41.0% by imaging examination before operation. All masses were solitary lesions, and the largest mean diameter was 7.6 cm. The capsule was complete in 218 patients and incomplete in 75. Of the 196 SPNP patients receiving treatment, the surgical resection rate was 94.9%. Two hundred and twenty patients were followed up for a median period of 33.3 months with tumor recurrence in 6 patients and death in 3. Conclusions: SPNP is not a rare tumor of low-grade malignancy, it mostly occurs in young females. Surgical resection is curative and most of these patients have good prognosis.
