Abstract:The semi-active suspension system with Magnetorheological(MR) dampers can improve the ride comfort and handling performance in vehicle and is inherent safe and reliable.Electrical power steering system(EPS) is developed rapidly due to its portable and flexible operations as well as stable steering performance.The coordinated control of these two electric control systems arises in order to improve the ride comfort and ensure the steering stability in cornering situation.In this paper,a prototype MR damper is designed and manufactured.Its dynamic characteristic is tested by the experimental setup.The model for the MR damper and equations of motion for the full vehicle including corner,vertical, yaw,roll and pitch motions are established to develop a kind of new coordinated control strategy.The semi-active suspension systems are controlled by four independent fuzzy controllers and the electrical power steering system(EPS) is controlled by another robust controller.The state of motion in vehicle is estimated to perform their coordinated control and reach global optimized overall performances.The numerical simulation results show that the coordinated control strategy is effective and successful in improving the overall performances such as rapid electrical power steering and good body post regulation.The overall performances of the coordinated control are much better than that of the conventional individual subsystem control.
