Investigation and research on the security risks of historic preservation districts

Abstract:In order to understand the security actuality of historic preservation districts without renovation, to prevent the continuation of "protective destruction", and to improve the living condition of residents, a special research was made on security risks in the historic preservation district of Garden Street in Harbin by using the investigation and analysis methods such as observations, questionnaires, interviews and so on. Presently, because of the conflict of interest and mechanisms, incomplete relevant standards for security planning and management, and poor access of funding, the historic preservation districts suffers from some potential dangers such as serious fire, disease, damage of historic buildings, environmental disruption, and social sub-health. To ensure that these important urban heritages are prevented from a variety of natural or man-made damages, some interrelated counter-measure in connection with different times and different condition should be made. Then finally implement sustainable security protection and redevelopment of historic preservation district.
