Abstract:The out-of-plane rotation invariance is demonstrated for a recognition system for laser radar (ladar) range imagery. The key of our method is to transform an original ladar range image of scene data into a height-range image. We demonstrate experimentally that our method provides the out-of-plane rotation invariance property and preserves in-plane rotation invariant characteristics at the same time. We also show experimentally the relationship between the recognition rate and depression angles.

Abstract:The target recognition of laser radar becomes hot research in recent years, because laser radar can produce high space resolution and collect rich target information, such as range image, intensity image and Doppler image. In the vertical detection of laser radar, the problem of in-plane target rotation invariance is firstly solved. In the paper, a new support vector machine (SVM) correlation filter is presented, which simultaneously has the attractive attributes of SVM and common correlation filter. Exploiting the idea of margin of separation maximization, the design criterion is produced. The filter is synthetic by the multiple training images which are generated by rotating one image. The real range images of laser radar are used to finish the correlation experiments. The results show that the filter is not sensitive to the noise, the correlation peak is changed slightly for the different testing images, and the precision of location is high. This design way can be used in other recognition fields.

Abstract:Laser radar can simultaneously produce the range image and the intensity image, and it can directly collect rich information of target. Compared with the other sensors, such as infrared or radar, laser radar can enhance the recognition rate and the precision of target aimed point. When laser radar vertically detects the objects on the plane ground, the correlation filters with in-plane rotation invariance are usually used to solving the problem of the target recognition. Traditional correlation filters are still improved on the aspect of recognition rate. In the paper, through deducing the relationship between support vector machine (SVM) and correlation principle in the signal processing, a new correlation filter, named linear SVM correlation filter (LSCF) that has the properties of SVM, is proposed. The real images of laser radar are used as the training and testing samples. The experiments state that the filter has good recognition attributes, such as stable correlation output and high recognition rate. LSCF is suitable to be the recognition algorithm of the imaging laser radar.

Abstract:Intensity, range and Doppler images can be obtained by using laser radar. Laser radar can detect much more object information than other detecting sensor, such as passive infrared imaging and synthetic aperture radar (SAR), so it is well suited as the sensor of object recognition. Traditional method of laser radar object recognition is extracting target features, which can be influenced by noise. In this paper, a laser radar recognition method-Support Vector Machine is introduced. Support Vector Machine (SVM) is a new hotspot of recognition research after neural network. It has well performance on digital written and face recognition. Two series experiments about SVM designed for preprocessing and non-preprocessing samples are performed by real laser radar images, and the experiments results are compared.

Abstract:In range-resolved reflective tomography laser radar imaging system, for accurate image reconstruction, all projections must be aligned to the center of target rotation. Due to the unknown location of the axis of rotation and random target translation, the center of target rotation in each projection cannot be measured accurately and images reconstructed based on range-resolved projections without registration would be dislocated. Here, we apply a feature tracking method to align projections data for tomographic reconstruction in laboratory-scale laser radar imaging. The target was placed on a spin table with an unknown and fixed axis, and the oscillatory motion of the target translation was simulated by a second order inertia filter to accord with the real satellites vibrations. The experimental simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of this method to improve images reconstruction equality. The application of this method to actual radar imaging in remote distance was discussed and the differences were compared with the lab setups.

Abstract:A new radar imaging method is proposed for spinning targets in space. The rapid spin motion of the target induces multi-period sinusoidal modulation of the radar echoes in both range and doppler domain, which causes Range-Doppler (R-D) algorithm invalid in conventional radar imaging. The presented method analyzes the echo model of the target spinning around an arbitrary axis. An exponential radial basis function (RBF) is then constructed from the scatters' range profile based on a distance-weighted criterion, and the image is rebuilt by recovering the projection of the target base on orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) algorithm with the radial basis matrix. The simulation results show that the proposed method can obtain the radar image more effectively for the target with a uniform speed spin motion.

Abstract:Target recognition based on forward-looking imaging has many potential applications. However, the conventional algorithms fail to locate targets accurately due to the low resolution of forward-looking radar images. Meanwhile, the conventional algorithms always suffer from high computational complexity and cannot satisfy the requirement of real-time processing for high-speed platform. This paper proposes a novel target recognition method based on morphological and spatial features. The algorithm comprises of initial matching and dual verification algorithms based on image gray scale and a priori position information. It is demonstrated that the proposed algorithm can work well for the forward-looking radar images with coarse resolution and enjoy higher computational efficiency. Simulation and real data processing validates the superior performance of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract:Laser imaging radar has high space resolution,and can output four-dimensional(4D) image(intensity image+three-dimensional(3D) range image),so it is fit to be the sensor of target recognition.Support vector machine(SVM) is a way of target recognition,which has high correct recognition rate,in the case of learning with small samples.Through optimizing the algorithm of SVM,it is embedded into digital signal processing(DSP) of laser imaging radar,achieving the function of target recognition,which has high practical meaning.The experiments with the real intensity images of laser imaging radar are finished.In the experiments,the testing set totally has 56 samples,and the costing time is 31.97μs,which can state that the algorithm can meet the real-time requirement,and the correct recognition rate is 98.2%.Another experiments with simulated range images of laser imaging radar validate the generalization of SVM.The experiments results show that SVM can meet the recognition demands of laser imaging radar in the real-time and recognition performance.

Abstract:The spinning target detection technology using the OAM-based radar is studied, in this paper. The detection model of the rotational Doppler frequency is established firstly and an effective target detection method is proposed. Subsequently, a proof-of-concept experiment is carried out to validate the effectiveness of the detection technique. Results demonstrate that the OAM beams can be readily exploited to detect the spinning object even if there exists no translation between the target and radar.

Abstract:With high angle and range resolution, the imaging laser radar is capable of producing range and intensity image of the target at the same time to form high resolved angle-angle-range-intensity images. In this paper, an ameliorated correlated algorithm is presented based on MAD and SSDA. At last, the ability to distinguish similar object and to expand self-adaptively as the target become larger, tracking experiments are given under different carry noise ratio (CNR). The results show that in the present scene, the algorithm gives preferable tracking performance. No failure of tracking the target occurred and most single-frame absolute errors are sub-pixel, all of the absolute errors are below 4 pixels.

Abstract:Laser radar can simultaneously produce the intensity and range images, and the space resolution is high, so the recognition performance is well, and it can choose the aim point of target. Laser radar is applied to many fields, such as guidance, navigation, and becomes the research hot point in recent years. In the vertical detection of laser radar, the algorithm is required not only solving in-plane rotation-invariant problem, also the distortion-invariant problem, and it must satisfied the real-time. Correlation algorithm is a parallel processing procedure, detecting many targets at one time, and its design can be implemented on the high speed digital signal processor. In the paper, a new filter named CHF-MACH filter is presented, which combine multiple circular harmonic expansions into one filter through MACH criteria. Because of the filter having the characters of the two filters, it can solve the problems of in-plane rotation-invariance and distortion-invariance simultaneously, and meet the real-time requirement. The simulated range image of laser radar is regarded as research target, and computing the PSR (peak to sidelobe ratio) values of correlation output of the different objects, and plotting the PSR curves of the different angles. Simulating the scene of laser radar which includes multiple objects, CHF-MACH filter performance is validated through testing with the different angles for the objects, and the non-training images can obtain the well correlation output.

Abstract:The range image has received considerable attention in the automatic target recognition field; however, a mass of range images are generally difficult to be collected in a real application. Therefore, with small samples of laser radar (ladar) range images, classifier ensembles-support vector machine (SVM) ensembles and back propagation neural networks (BPNN) ensembles-are applied to improve the performance of target recognition in this paper. There are three aspects of experiments. First, the performances of SVM and BPNN are compared with different numbers of training sets. Secondly, the SVM ensembles and the BPNN ensembles are applied to improve the performance. Thirdly, the performances of the SVM ensembles and the BPNN ensembles are analyzed with the view angle of the tested samples changing while the view angle of the trained samples is invariant. The experimental results demonstrate that the recognition rate is effectively improved by classifier ensembles. The SVM is superior to the BPNN when the number of the training sets is not less than the feature dimensions; however, the BPNN has a better approximating ability when the number of training sets is small and lower than feature dimensions. Interferometric Three-Dimensional Imaging for Spinning Targets Based on Narrow-Band Radar

Abstract:In this paper, a novel interferometric 3-D imaging algorithm for spinning targets is proposed based on narrow-band radar. The height information of the scatterer is estimated by the phase difference between the same scatterer in two 2-D images generated by two antennas at closely-separated elevation angles via narrow-band radar imaging algorithms. For imaging of rapidly spinning targets, however, spurious peaks appear due to azimuth sample deficiency. Furthermore, the compressed sensing theory is applied into interferometric 3-D imaging based on joint sparsity of two images. The simulation results have proved the validity of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract:Laser radar is able to produce both intensity images and range images. These two images provide the full 3-D information of the target. The quality of the range image is negatively impacted by noise arising from dropouts and range anomalies. This paper proposes an algorithm for range image background suppression, utilizing the intensity image, a mathematical morphology (MM) filter and a mean filter. An order-mean-filter algorithm is applied to suppress the range anomaly. A comparison of the filter effects between various templates and templates in weighted mode was made, resulting in the selection of the order-mean-filter algorithm of the best multiple template. It was applied to the range image formed by the target in the actual radar.

Abstract:Through deducing the relationship between support vector machine (SVM) and correlation principle, the optimal hyperplane is proved as a correlation filter when the kernel function is the linear kernel. So a new correlation filter, named linear SVM correlation filter (LSCF), is proposed. The filter has not only shift-invariance, but also SVM properties. The real images of laser radar are used as experiment data, and LSCF is used to solve the in-plane rotation invariance. The results show that the filter can recognize the different rotated objects, and the correlation output is stable. The filter is insensitive to the noise and gray change, and has good discrimination ability. In the same design way, LSCF is also suitable to solve other problems of correlation distortion.

Abstract:The application of deep learning to inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) target recognition helps to improve accuracy in space target monitoring. However, the orbit transfer and maneuver of space targets are likely to cause range migration in radar echoes. Information deficiency of scattering points and the limitations of data acquisition methods pose enormous challenges to space target imaging and recognition. To address these issues, this article proposes a semisupervised space target recognition algorithm based on an integrated network of imaging and recognition in the radar signal domain. By directly processing radar signals, the algorithm can achieve high-precision space target imaging and recognition under the general situation and the conditions of range migrations. Based on the inherent characteristics of radar complex echoes, the algorithm utilizes unlabeled echoes to generate pseudolabels to achieve better generalization capabilities. Both real and complex convolutions are exploited to generate high-resolution features. Besides, feature optimization modules are designed to effectively integrate high-resolution texture features and contour features to magnify the difference between the target and background. The ablation experiments and contrast experiments indicate that, under the conditions of migration and missing components, the algorithm can obtain high-resolution features for imaging and recognition by only using a small amount of labeled data. Thus, the algorithm achieves high accuracy and robustness for migrated space target recognition and has superiority over other algorithms.

Abstract:In this paper, an improved target extraction scheme is proposed for forward-looking scanning radar. In the scheme, an image with good azimuth resolution is obtained firstly by deconvolution technique, and then it is used to map a patch-image. Secondly, low rank and sparse matrix decomposition is conducted on the patch image Thirdly, constant false-alarm rate (CFAR) detection method is used to extract the targets from the sparse matrix. Finally, simulation results are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
ISAR imaging for rapidly spinning targets

Abstract:A new method of ISAR imaging is proposed in this paper for rapidly spinning targets in space. This type of target rotates several rounds around a stable axis during the imaging processing time. The spin motion induces multi period sinusoidal modulation in both range and Doppler domain of the radar echoes, which cause the conventional Range-Doppler (R-D) algorithm to become invalid in ISAR imaging. The presented method analyses the echo model of the target spinning around an arbitrary axis. Then it resamples the echo sequence under the condition of estimation of the target spinning period, and reconstructs the image from this new echo sequence. The simulation result shows that this method can avoid the influence of the target's uniform speed spin motion and achieve ISAR image effectively.

Abstract:The radar target's reconstructed high-resolution images provide important features for target identification. Normally, the radar images are obtained with the cascaded steps of translational motion compensation (TMC), image reconstruction and rotation velocity (RV) retrieval for inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR). It is found in this paper that the high-resolution target's image can be obtained with a single step via the proposed three-dimensional space Radon-Fourier transform (3DS-RFT). Furthermore, the relationship is well discussed in this paper between the ISAR and 3DS-RFT as well as the 3D distribution of 3DS-RFT image. It is shown that the proposed 3DS-RFT may be a more generalized imaging approach of moving target. Besides, the fast implementation of 3DS-RFT is also provided based on particle swarm optimizer (PSO). Finally, the results of both the numerical experiments and real measuring data are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:This paper considers the problem of high-speed maneuvering target detection, which involves the processing of complex range migration (RM) and Doppler frequency migration (DFM) within the coherent processing interval (CPI). By exploiting the coupling relationship between the range frequency and the Doppler frequency, a detection algorithm is proposed for high-speed maneuvering targets. After the range compression, approximate 2-D range-frequency and Doppler-frequency expressions are derived according to the principle of stationary phase (POSP) and series inversion extension. The mathematical range-Doppler frequency relationships are then exploited to search the target's first-order motion parameters and Doppler ambiguity numbers within a predetermined parameter range, and formulate the corresponding new data from the original 2-D data matrix. Finally, Fourier transform and constant false-alarm rate (CFAR) detector are further applied to detect the targets. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has low complexity requirements and is suitable for low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) scenarios. Moreover, it is not sensitive to the motion order of targets.
