Abstract:According to industrial characteristics of telecom market, this paper simulates the game among telecom operators in the market by computer simulation technology. It further puts forward a method to certificate illegalness of predatory pricing and verifies its effectiveness in both cases of limited interconnection and sufficient interconnection. The conclusions are: (1) when interconnection is limited, this method will protect the survival space of disadvantaged enterprise and improve consumer's welfare in the form of promoting competition; (2) when interconnection is sufficient, this method will stimulate innovation and protect technological progress and consumer's welfare in the long run by providing enterprise with appropriate profits.

Abstract:Multi-agent system employs the functions of communication, coordination and cooperation among intelligent agents to help people judge and analyze complex phenomena that cannot be directly observed, and it has become an important tool for solving large-scale complex problems. The problem of demand response (DR) in electric power system is difficult to be modeled due to the complicated environment and continuously evolving subjects. Multi-agent system can simulate the operation mechanism of electric power system, thus playing an important role in solving the DR problems. In this study, based on multi-agent simulation, we establish a multi-agent model of residential power market and propose a satisfaction function of residential users about electricity price. We focus on the interaction process among all the agents of power supply side, selling side and demand side and conduct simulation to obtain the selection and decision-making of residential users on different electricity pricing schemes. The results show that multi-agent system is beneficial to analyze, simulate and solve the DR problem in power market. Also, the satisfaction function of residential users on electricity price can support power selling enterprise to better understand the intention of residential users when choosing electricity pricing schemes and participating in DR program.

Abstract:Mobile social networks have greatly strengthened people's online social interactions, generating massive volume of mobile data traffic, and bringing remarkable revenues to the wireless service providers. Meanwhile, the potential revenue growth is restrained by the network capacity of physical communication infrastructure and also challenged by the competition among service providers. In this paper, we study the pricing strategies of multiple service providers in a competitive data service market, where mobile users’ data consumption behaviors are influenced by two effects: the positive network effect and the congestion effect. To analyze the strategic interactions between mobile users and service providers, we devise a two-stage Stackelberg game consisting a pricing game in Stage I and a usage game in Stage II, respectively. In particular, for the usage game, we characterize the equilibrium solution and establish its uniqueness. For the pricing game, our analysis indicates that a mixed-strategy equilibrium solution is guaranteed for the scenario with rational providers as well as the scenario with providers of bounded rationality. We further develop a distributed learning algorithm for finding a mixed-strategy equilibrium solution in the second scenario. Our numerical results provide insights into how positive the network effect and the congestion effect would impact the system performance, and demonstrate that the bounded rational behavior incurs degradation to service providers’ revenues.

Abstract:This paper reviewing Chinese telecommunications deregulation during 1990s with normative dynamic game models of industrial organization theory concluded that the incumbent firm's strategic behavior would impair the new firm's participation in unsymmetrical market. Vertical segmentation could facilitate network competition in spite of double marginalization, and horizontal segmentation led to imperfect competition because of uniform pricing and lack of information. We show that differential pricing depending on termination and information discrimination can increase the total social welfare.

Abstract:This paper studies the influence of two different Internet pricing schemes on the internet consumption by the means of simulation.In the Internet supply market,we establish a Bertrand duopoly game model:one Internet Service Provider(ISP)with flat-rate pricing scheme for its service and the other ISP with two-part pricing scheme-fixed access fee plus usage fee.Based on the survey data of SSIC,we create the Internet expenditure and consumption time of each consumer using random number generation method,simulate the consumption choices under different pricing schemes,and then analyze the effect of pricing strategies on the revenue of ISP,the consumers' consumption behavior and the total social welfare.

Abstract:Through econometric model, this paper analyzed empirically the data of China telecom output in 1990-2009. studying the rationality of the price regulation on the development of China telecom. During the research, this paper paid more attention to the specific issues and made conclusions by the econometric analysis and testing. It is concluded that price-capping regulation is an effective measure to promote China telecom industry development, while the effect of relax into control is not significant.

Abstract:Focusing on the ignorance of co-impacts of network externality,other participants and service quality on telecom business price equilibrium,this paper derives the demand curve from consumers' utilities in the market with network externality.Then,establishes a unified analytical framework of telecom network externality,relative market relation,service quality and price,and makes further analysis about model equilibriums.The results show that both network externality and service quality increase the consumers pay and the profits of the operating system.When network externality is weaker,the decision-making simultaneously between service provider and telecom operator means even better services,less expenditures, and higher system profits,while the sequential decision-making means the first-mover advantage for the first decider.When network externality is stronger,service provider makes decision firstly can bring even better services,more expenditures and higher system profits.As a follower,operator can improve its value acquisition of the business,obtain after-mover advantage through service-enhancement.

Abstract:Regulation model selection is the core issue of electric market-oriented reform. Based on evaluating two typical regulation models (ROR and RPI-X), the paper proposed the PCM regulation for China electricity market. Using the PCM regulation, the paper emphasizes research on the quantitative relation between price level and uplift, and forecasts the uplift with Static Statistic Method and Random Production Simulation. Under the PCM regulation, a comprehensive regulation to power plant life cycle can be realized. As an innovative regulation model, the PCM is expected to provide a package solution to China electricity market. =Regulating average price is a key component of electricity market regulation. The paper "Transition from Price Capping to Profit Capping Based on Profit Space in Electricity Market" (shortened as "profit capping paper" in the following) proposes a new price ceiling model, and discusses its idea, structure, characteristic and feasibility. This paper writes on the topic of price level regulation, and pays more attention to regulation model design, investment regulation, price level control, uplift space evaluation, incentive comparative, etc. In short, this paper attempts to give an effective solution to regulate the electricity market in China. © 2008 DRPT.
Game-theoretic Understanding of Price Dynamics in Mobile Communication Services

Abstract:In the mobile communication services, users wish to subscribe to high quality service with a low price level, which leads to competition between mobile network operators (MNOs). The MNOs compete with each other by service prices after deciding the extent of investment to improve quality of service (QoS). Unfortunately, the theoretic backgrounds of price dynamics are not known to us, and as a result, effective network planning and regulative actions are hard to make in the competitive market. To explain this competition more detail, we formulate and solve an optimization problem applying the two-stage Cournot and Bertrand competition model. Consequently, we derive a price dynamics that the MNOs increase and decrease their service prices periodically, which completely explains the subsidy dynamics in the real world. Moving forward, to avoid this instability and inefficiency, we suggest a simple regulation rule which leads to a Pareto-optimal equilibrium point. Moreover, we suggest regulator's optimal actions corresponding to user welfare and the regulator's revenue.

Abstract:Along with the development of electricity market in China the effective competition is led into the power generation and power delivery step by step, and the functions of the administrative structure is correspondingly determined by the market structure and the degree of competition level. Because of the shortcomings in the original administration before the reform and according to the inherent monopolization in the power transmission and distribution a new performance based price regulation mode is led into this paper and the price cap regulation in this mode is analyzed in detail. Comparing with traditional regulation modes, the over investment problem caused by the profit regulation scheme based on the investment and adopted in power enterprises over a long period of time can be solved by the performance based price regulation mode, otherwise the power enterprises can be energized to reduce their costs by this mode, therefore more benefit can be provided to the transmission customers. Finally, in the application of this regulation mode some problems which more attention should be paid to are briefly narrated.

Abstract:The paper analyses the behavior of incumbents who monopoly over competitive bottleneck and competitive entrants under different regulations on access charges in the vertically-integrated telecommunication markets of China, explores the relationship between the regulation on access charges and the rational competition. It is found that the vertically-integrated firms here don't have an incentive to distort the rational competition only when the regulator set access charges of incumbents and don't set the retail price.

Abstract:Our research found that,because network scale effect exists,the business of the " group users "," affection user number" makes the "big nets" absorb customer for "small nets".The group's internal initial market share to operators have a more important influence,this leads to more intense competition between the mobile operators.We also points out that the " group users " launched by operators for the main purpose of absorb the opponents' customers,but virtually reduced the customers on the use of fixed net.Fixed net became the victim of the mobile network competition,lead to the substitution of mobile to fixed net more grievous.The two respects leads to the market structure of Chinese telecoms industry more imbalances.

Abstract:Based on the revenue management methodology and the stage of life cycle of telecommunications products, a system of pricing strategies of telecommunications will be introduced this thesis. It is a system of closed-loop management which includes the establishment of a market environment prediction, the pricing model design, the development of pricing strategies, the calculation of yield model, the actual receipts assessment, and the optimizing of yield model parameters. And practical examples will be introduced in the thesis to explain and verify the he model. It is significant for the improving of the overall telecommunications revenue increase. And this system can also be used in other service-oriented pricing strategy.

Abstract:As a fulcrum in the power market, electricity price affects the reliability and security of the power system indirectly. The time-of-use (TOU) pricing is one of the important ways to safeguard the stability of the power system. The TOU pricing must consider the stakeholders of the government, the power company, and the consumer. With the prerequisite of price-fixing level by the government, the power company is allowed to adjust the power price to realize the goal of power load control. Based on this, a TOU pricing model - price-fixing by the government, pricing by the power company, and electricity-consumption by the consumer - is established with game theory. The model simulation is carried out with the Matlab software, the result of which indicates that the model is practicable for the power load control.

Abstract:The telecommunication industry is being restructured with the coming of 3G,and the competition modes for companies in telecom industry have to be reorganized to match up 3G.By establishing the competition model for telecom companies under 3G,this paper analyzes the access pricing problem and discusses the regulatory issues.The main findings in this paper are: First,a monopoly phone network didn't serve all the potential users;second,incompatible networks are always social inefficient unless the two networks have equal network size;finally,the profit maximizing access price is certainly above the first best level,and ECPR pricing rule could be used to guide the access pricing.

Abstract:The time-of-use(TOU) electricity price is an important approach to cut peak loads and fill the valley and to ensure stable operation of power systems.The TOU electricity pricing must consider the stakeholders of the government,the power companies,and the users.The power company is allowed to adjust the electricity price under the price cap given by the government to regulate the power load.Based on that,the game theory was used to establish the TOU electricity price model which reveals that the government determines the price level,the power company determines the detailed price,and the user determined the amount.Simulation of the model by using the Matlab software shows that the model is effective.

Abstract:This paper analyses why players choose different competitive strategies in the telecommunication industry and the generation industry. Based on discussing relevant factors influencing tacit collusion, the author suggests that customer transition probability should be introduced in order to understand the collusion process between duopolies. By constructing a game-model based on customer transition probability, this paper discusses the effects of product differentiation and customer switching barriers in tacit collusion while a new player enters the market, and how vigorous the price-competition would be. According to calculations, the author argues that high transition probability might facilitate tacit collusion between players and relaxes the intensity of price competition. At last, the author gives out some suggestion on regulation policies in power sector and telecommunication sector.

Abstract:Regulation pricing is the important content of economic regulation.In the regulation game,the information possessed by players is asymmetric,so symmetric and asymmetric information symmetric will result in different pricing.Under extreme circumstance,when regulator possesses the regulated perfect information,marginal-cost pricing and average-cost pricing are often employed.More often the information is asymmetric,however,with development of technology and changing of economic condition,the price -cap regulation should be employed to improve the cost efficiency of the regulated.

Abstract:Telecommunication service industry is a typical oligopolistic industry. Telecom operators have a strong interdependence between each other. Therefore, collusion easily occurs in the telecommunication industry, and to some extent, collusion will hinder the long-term development of telecommunication companies. This paper studied the collusion and competition strategies among telecom operators by evolutionary game theory and Hotelling model. The game analysis showed that consumer costs, the level of telecom operators' service and the fines from government directly affected the strategic decision of operators. Finally, the paper proved that the fines control mechanism of the government was one of the methods to remove the collusion behavior. However only when the fines satisfied a certain amount, could government regulation achieve the function. Then the telecommunication services market can be effectively developed.
