A simulation and evaluation of urbanization and industrialization in China

Abstract:Urbanization in China has reached twice the world average growth rate early in the 21st century. The proportion of rural to total population by the end of 2006 had increased to 43.9% compared with the world average of 45%. Out of China's 1.3 billion population, 147.35 million are considered as a floating population, accounting for 11.28% of the country's total population. As such, urbanization has been a research front in theory and practice in terms of urban and regional development. In the case of China, more arguments about the country's urbanization have surfaced in recent years. The majority view is that the urbanization level in China is lagging behind its industrialization process as compared to many other developing countries. In order to have an accurate understanding of the concept and measurement of urbanization and industrialization, there is a need to introduce an agent-based modeling concept.
