Abstract:Drivers' driving behaviors and psychological states not only affect traffic operation but also have direct impacts on road safety. This study aims at categorizing various aberrant driving behaviors and discovering their connections with drivers' features. Based on Manchester Driving Behavior Questionnaire, driving training experiences were taken into consideration, and a questionnaire was administrated to 135 drivers in Beijing. Principal component analysis defines five factors: errors, lapses, unintentional violations, deliberate violations and emotional behaviors, which fit the presumed factor structure. Through ANOVA and multivariate regression analysis, the foremost influential factor of driving behaviors is found to be drivers' self-assessment and attitudes, such as drivers' evaluation of their emotionality and their attitudes toward traffic regulations. The second influential factor is driving training experiences including training site and time span, which was not involved in the studies before. Other factors, such as gender and age, are not found to be quite influential on driving behaviors.
