Abstract:N.I.M.Gould,C.Sainvitu and Ph.L.Toint~[9]presented a filter tech- nique for unconstrained optimization.Based on this work,we present a new filter trust-region algorithm without judgement of convexity of the trust-region subprob- lem.We prove that under certan conditions,the algorithm converges globally to a second order stationary point.Numerical results show that the presented algorithm is more efficient than the basic trust-region algorithm.

Abstract:In this paper, a new trust region algorithm for unconstrained LC1 optimization problems is given. Compare with those existing trust regiion methods, this algorithm has a different feature: it obtains a stepsize at each iteration not by soloving a quadratic subproblem with a trust region bound, but by solving a system of linear equations. Thus it reduces computational complexity and improves computation efficiency. It is proven that this algorithm is globally convergent and locally superlinear under some conditions.

Abstract:In this paper, a new filter trust region algorithm is proposed for solving unconstrained nonlinear optimization problems. It modifies the retrospective ratio to a convex combined ratio for updating the trust-region radius. Moreover we use the filter technique to relax the acceptance of the trial point. The new algorithm is shown to be globally convergent to a first-order critical point. Numerical experiments on CUTEr problems indicate that the new algorithm is competitive.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a new algorithm for solving nonsmooth equations, where the function is locally Lipschitzian. The algorithm attempts to combine the efficiency of filter techniques and the robustness of trust-region method. Global convergence for this algorithm is established under reasonable assumptions.

Abstract:The Newton method for variational inequality problem is locally and quadratically convergent. By using a differentiable merit function, Taji, Fukushima and Ibaraki([1]) have given a globally convergent modified Newton method for the strongly monotone variational inequality problem and proved their method to be quadratically convergent under some additional assumptions. In this paper we propose to present a trust region-type modification of Newton method for the strictly monotone variational inequality problem using the same merit function as that in [1]. It is then shown that our method is well defined and globally convergent and that, under the same assumptions as those in [1], our algorithm reduces to the basic Newton method and hence the rate of convergence is quadratic. Computational experimence indicates the efficiency of the proposed method.

Abstract:In this paper, a new trust region algorithm for nonlinear equality constrained LC1 optimization problems is given. It obtains a search direction at each iteration not by solving a quadratic programming subprobiem with a trust region bound, but by solving a system of linear equations. Since the computational complexity of a QP-Problem is in general much larger than that of a system of linear equations, this method proposed in this paper may reduce the computational complexity and hence improve computational efficiency. Furthermore, it is proved under appropriate assumptions that this algorithm is globally and super-linearly convergent to a solution of the original problem. Some numerical examples are reported, showing the proposed algorithm can be beneficial from a computational point of view.

Abstract:Conic model optimization methods are one class of non-quadratic model optimization methods.It contains richer interpolation information than the standard quadratic model.Di and Sun(1996) proposed a trust-region method based on conic model for unconstrained optimization.Based on Di and Sun(1996),this paper employs the filter technique due to Fletcher and Leyffer(2002) and proposes a filter-trust-region method based on conic model for unconstrained optimization.Under mild conditions,we prove the convergence of new algorithm.Limited numerical results show that the new algorithm is efficient.

Abstract:In this paper,we propose a derivative-free trust region algorithm for constrained minimization problems with separable structure,where derivatives of the objective function are not available and cannot be directly approximated.At each iteration,we construct a quadratic interpolation model of the objective function around the current iterate.The new iterates are generated by minimizing the augmented Lagrangian function of this model over the trust region.The filter technique is used to ensure the feasibility and optimality of the iterative sequence.Global convergence of the proposed algorithm is proved under some suitable assumptions.

Abstract:In this paper the local convergence properties of the filter trust region algorithm is discussed.The filter approach can suffer from the so-called Maratos effect.The Maratos effect occurs if,arbitrarily close to a strict local solution of the NLP(1)-(2),a full Newton step increases both the objective function and the constraint violation,and is therefore rejected by the filter,even though it could be a very good step toward the solution.This can result in poor local convergence behavior.As a remedy,we propose in this paper that if the full Newton step is rejected,by means of a second order correction which aims to further reduce infeasibility.We also show that this modification is indeed able to prevent the Maratos effect.

Abstract:Based on the filter technique, this paper presents an ODE-type filter-trust-region algorithm for solving nonlinear inequality constrained optimization problems. One feature of the proposed method is that only a system of linear equations is solved to obtain a search direction at each iteration, thus avoiding solving a quadratic programming sub-problem with a trust region bound. Another feature is that this method dispenses with the idea of penalty function and thus avoiding the difficult choice of penalty parameters. Under some standard assumptions, the iterate sequence generated by the algorithm converges superlinearly. Numerical results are also reported.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a trust region method for minimizing a function whose Hessian matrix at the solutions may be singular. The global convergence of the method is obtained under mild conditions. Moreover, we show that if the objective function is LC2 function, the method possesses local superlinear convergence under the local error bound condition without the requirement of isolated nonsingular solution. This is the first regularized Newton method with trust region technique which possesses local superlinear (quadratic) convergence without the assumption that the Hessian of the objective function at the solution is nonsingular. Preliminary numerical experiments show the efficiency of the method.

Abstract:By means of a conjugate gradient strategy, we propose a trust region method for unconstrained optimization problems. The search direction is an adequate combination of the conjugate gradient direction and the trust-region direction. The global convergence and the quadratic convergence of this method are established under suitable conditions. Numerical results show that the presented method is competitive to the trust region method and the conjugate gradient method.

Abstract:For solving nonlinear complementarity problems, a new algorithm is proposed by using multidimensional filter techniques and a trust-region method. The algorithm is shown to be globally convergent under the reasonable assumptions and does not depend on any extra restoration procedure. In particular, it shows that the subproblem is a convex quadratic programming problem, which is easier to be solved. The results of numerical experiments show its efficiency.
