Abstract:At the beginning of this paper, we review past research and discover that there exists very limited information on two-phase liquid/solid blood flow during the stenosis of carotid artery. This paper is perhaps the first systematic investigation of this problem in China. In the full paper, we explain our investigation in some detail; in this abstract, we just add some pertinent remarks to listing the three topics of explanation. The first topic is: The establishment of the carotid artery bifurcation mathematical model of the liquid/solid (blood plasma/red blood cell) two-phase blood flow. In this topic, we point out that blood is a two-phase system that consists of spherical and rigid red blood cells (RBCs) suspended in Newtonian liquid (blood plasma) and that the blood flow is a laminar flow. The second topic is: The influence of the location of stenosis and its degree on dynamic parameters of blood flow. In the second topic, the results calculated with our model and shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4 in the full paper show preliminarily by how much the region and degree of reversed flow worsen with increasing stenosis. The third topic is: The influence of the location of stenosis and its degree on the wall shear stress. In the third topic, the results calculated with our model and shown in Fig. 5 and Tables 1 and 2 show preliminarily but clearly that stenosis worsens hand in hand with the increase of wall shear stress; as is well known, the increase in wall shear stress conversely promotes the formation of new locations of stenosis.
