Abstract:A novel kind of hierarchical loop-flower basis function is proposed to solve the low frequency scattering problem. The hierarchical loop-flower is defined on a hierarchical mesh. The hierarchical loop basis function is used to expand the solenoidal current and the hierarchical flower basis function is used to expand the nonsolenoidal current and thus the low frequency breakdown problem can be remedied. Compared with the conventional hierarchical loop-tree method, the number of the basis function can be reduced a third.

Abstract:The multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA) has shown great efficiency in solving large scale electromagnetic scattering problems. However, when unknowns become up to tens of millions, it is not trivial to keep high performance because of the complicated structure and calculation of MLFMA. In order to get rid of the bottleneck caused by load balancing, a parallel data partitioning strategy is proposed based on the hierarchical structure of an oct-tree of MLFMA. We present our data partitioning strategy in the light of different layers' properties including the processing of three kinds of layers in the tree and a fine-grained decomposition. We also put forward a solution of a coexisting data correlating problem, using a transition layer. Meanwhile, with the purpose of minimizing communication time in distributed memory system, a redundant technique is applied in the distributed layer. Parallel efficiency analysis demonstrates that the computational cost in parallelization of MLFMA can be asymptotically cut, and a high parallel efficiency can be obtained in our implementation.

Abstract:In this letter, an improved multiresolution preconditioner, based on the loop-flower basis functions, has been proposed for the low-frequency problems. By using loop-flower basis function instead of loop-tree basis function as the coarse-level multiresolution basis function, the condition number of the system matrix is largely reduced, and, thus, the convergence speed of the iterative solver is greatly improved. Some numerical examples have been given to show the validity and the performance of the proposed method.

Abstract:Integral equation method is applied to solving 3-D coated conductor with the surface satisfying the impedance boundary condition (IBC). The fast multipole method (FMM) used in conjugate gradient (CG) iterative method is applied to expedite the matrix-vector multiplication. Meanwhile a sparse technique combined with precondition CG method is used to carry out the computation of two sparse matrixes (A) over bar, (B) over bar. The present method is very efficient for solution of scattering from impedance coated conductor with arbitrary shape and large electrical sizes.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a class of modified incomplete LDL(T) preconditioners followed by the conjugate orthogonal conjugate gradient (COCG) method for solving the large complex symmetric system with linear equations Ax = b, arising from the scattering problems. The preconditioner is derived from the incomplete Cholesky factorization with diagonal compensation. With an ordering scheme, our factorized preconditioners can reduce the memory requirement as well as the COCG iteration numbers. Numerical tests on harmonic analysis for plane wave scattering from a metallic plate and a metallic sphere coated by a lossy dielectric layer show the efficiency of our method.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a class of modified incomplete Cholesky factorization preconditioners LLT with two control parameters including dropping rules. Before computing preconditioners, the modified incomplete Cholesky factorization algorithm allows to decide the sparsity of incomplete factorization preconditioners by two fillin control parameters: (1) p, the number of the largest number p of nonzero entries in each row; (2) dropping tolerance. With RCM reordering scheme as a crucial operation for incomplete factorization preconditioners, our numerical results show that both the number of PCOCG and PCG iterations and the total computing time are reduced evidently for appropriate fill-in control parameters. Numerical tests on harmonic analysis for 2D and 3D scattering problems show the efficiency of our method.

Abstract:Sparsity strategy can ensure the sparsity of the incomplete factorization factor,and the diagonal perturbation method can enhance the effectiveness of the incomplete factorization.These techniques are utilized with a modified incomplete LL T scheme to accelerate the iterative solution of the linear systems arising from the discretization of scattering problems by the edge finite element method.The effectivity of the proposed preconditioning technique will be verified by numerical tests.

Abstract:The incomplete Cholesky (IC) factorization preconditioning technique is applied to the Krylov subspace methods for solving large systems of linear equations resulted from the use of edge-based finite element method (FEM). The construction of the preconditioner is based on the fact that the coefficient matrix is represented in an upper triangular compressed sparse row (CSR) form. An efficient implementation of the IC factorization is described in detail for complex symmetric matrices. With some ordering schemes our IC algorithm can greatly reduce the memory requirement as well as the iteration numbers. Numerical tests on harmonic analysis for plane wave scattering from a metallic plate and a metallic sphere coated by a lossy dielectric layer show the efficiency of this method.

Abstract:A multilevel recursively defined preconditioner for use with the preconditioned GMRES algorithm is developed and applied to accelerate the solution of the vector finite element-boundary integral (FE-BI) matrix equations of scattering by a three-dimensional cavity. The preconditioner is constructed from a sequence of hierarchical vector spaces arising from the p-version of the finite element method. Abstract:We introduce an algebraic recursive multilevel approximate inverse-based preconditioner, based on a distributed Schur complement formulation. The proposed preconditioner combines recursive combinatorial algorithms and multilevel mechanisms to maximize sparsity during the facorization. Experiments on selected sparse linear systems from electromagnetics applications demonstrate the potential of the proposed method, also against other state-of-the-art solvers.

The P-FFT technique developed by our group earlier was extended in the current analysis. Abstract:A novel Hierarchical (H-) LU decomposition direct solution based on higher order basis function (HOBF) is presented to solve electromagnetic (EM) scattering from electrically large conducting targets. Due to the H-matrix structure, the H-LU fast direct solver can efficiently calculate the inverse of a moment-method matrix. By utilizing a high order geometrical modeling, a HOBF can be defined. Therefore, the number of unknowns can be greatly reduced to further expedite the computation. Numerical results demonstrate that compared with the low order modeling, the proposed method can significantly enhance the computational efficiency of electrically large EM scattering problems.

Abstract:Low-frequency electromagnetic problems are analyzed using the electric field integral equation (EFIE) with loop-star basis functions to alleviate the low-frequency breakdown problem. By constructing the loop-star basis functions with the curvilinear RWG (CRWG) basis and the Buffa-Christiansen (BC) basis, respectively, the recently proposed Caldero¿n multiplicative preconditioner (CMP) is improved to become applicable at low frequencies. The Gram matrix arisen from CRWG loop-star basis and BC loop-star basis is studied in detail. A direct solution approach is introduced to solve the Gram matrix equation. The proposed Calderon preconditioner improves the condition of the EFIE operator at low frequencies, which results in a fast convergence of the preconditioned EFIE system. Several numerical examples demonstrate the fast and mesh-independent convergence of the preconditioned system.

Abstract:A preconditioner is proposed for accelerating solutions of finite element matrix equations.The preconditioner is constructed from a sequence of hierarchical vector spaces spanned by higher order hexahedral basis functions.The preconditioned GMRES algorithm with the precondtioner presented is developed and applied to solve the vector finite element-boundary integral(FE-BI) matrix equations for simulation of scattering from three-dimensional cavities.Numerical results show that the preconditioner for solving the FE-BI systems exhibits superior efficiency and reduced the CPU time significantly.

Abstract:The performance of three preconditioners, namely, diagonal, block-diagonal, and incomplete lower-upper preconditioners, are investigated in this communication for increasing the efficiency of iterative solvers in adaptive integral method implementation. These preconditioners are implemented to accelerate the solution of electromagnetic scattering problems in a comparative study. Numerical results have shown some improvements in convergence rate, when these preconditioners are employed.

Abstract:In this paper, the sub-entire domain basis function method and characteristic function (CF) method are used to analyze scattering of large-scale periodic structures. The former can dramatically reduce the number of unknows. To reduce the time for impedance matrix generation, the CF method can be used when the distance between the source function and the testing function positions is big enough. Finally, some simulation examples are given to validate the method.

Abstract:The selection of basis functions is one of the important aspects in the moment method. Proper basis functions may accelerate the speed of convergence and decrease the costs of computer resources. In this paper, a method to construct high-order overlapping basis functions is proposed, and applied to the solution of 2D electromagnetic scattering problems. Compared with the low-order methods, the high-order methods can generate more accurate numerical results, even using larger subdomains. Numerical results show the validity and efficiency of the presented technique.

Abstract:The method of moments for the simplified scattering and radiation on thin wire models can lead to the large-scale linear systems with non-Hermitian Toeplitz-like coefficient matrices. Since such reduced linear systems are typically dense and ill conditioned, iterative solvers are rarely considered to deal with the discretized linear systems in these electromagnetic model simulations. However, utilizing the Toeplitz-like structure of coefficient matrices, we can use the fast Toeplitz matrix-vector product (MVP) to refresh iterative solvers for the discretized linear systems. Compared with the traditional solvers, the fast numerical method can reduce the computational cost from to and the storage from to without using any lossy compression. Due to the Toeplitz-like structure of coefficient matrices, circulant preconditioners are considered to further accelerate the convergence of iterative solvers. Since the circulant matrices can be diagonalized via fast Fourier transforms (FFTs), the fast Toeplitz MVP is utilized to retain the total computational complexity of the proposed methods at , where is the number of spatial grid nodes. Theoretical analyses of the spectra of the preconditioned linear systems are also preliminarily investigated. Finally, extensive numerical experiments involving both scattering and radiation issues are employed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods in aspects of the number of iterations and CPU time elapsed.

Abstract:A novel kind of hierarchical loop-flower bases is presented for solving electric field integral equation. Compared with conventional hierarchical loop-tree-based method, the total bases for proposed hierarchical loop-flower-based method can be reduced a third. Thus, the memory and time cost can be largely reduced. The hierarchical loop-flower basis function is defined on a hierarchical mesh which can be generated by a mesh refinement algorithm. By expanding the current with the hierarchical loop-flower bases, the solenoidal and non-solenoidal current are separated and thus the EFIE low-frequency breakdown issue can be remedied. In addition to that a multiresolution preconditioner technology is also introduced to fast up the iterative convergence speed. Some examples show that the basis number is largely reduced.

Abstract:In order to analyze EM scattering from objects within a half space fast and efficiently under the background of complex calculation of half space Green's functions, the adaptive cross approximation (ACA) has been applied, due to its nature of Green's function independence. When the object is naturally split into two parts by the interface of the half space, two different mesh densities are required according to the high contrast of the two background materials, and two multilevel trees need to be set up individually, where a uniform discretization system is more preferable. Therefore, to overcome the complex discretization system mentioned above and reduce the number of unknowns to decrease the expensive computationally cost of Sommerfeld integrals, higher order hierarchical basis functions have been introduced. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed hybrid method.
