Abstract:Greater visibility into business processes is an unexpected and often overlooked benefit of service oriented architecture (SOA). In order to survive in a very competitive market, the enterprises must focus on creating value for customers and adopt business-process orientation to reorganize their business processes into adaptable corporate structures. The essential pre-requisite for optimizing business processes is an integrated information system. Thus the companies need integration to reengineer whole processes to improve their effectiveness. In this work, we focus on designing and extending to a Service Event-Driven Process Chain (S-EPC) for a modeled business process even-driven process chain (EPC) methodology shift from a supply chain management (SCM) system of a typical enterprise.

Abstract:Business Process Modeling (BPM) is widely acknowledged as the specific technology to analyze and control workflow with flexibility and convenience. With the development of SOA theory and practical exploration, it is challenging for BPM to involve web services and to maintain complex interaction information. Since the lack of method to involve web service semantic in business process, we present the Semantic Event-driven Process Chains (SEPCs) that describe the business process of semantic web services composition. A function metamodel is defined to solve semantic inadequacy in a modeling phase and transforming phase. A mapping rule is defined to identify structure patterns and transform the SEPCs model into WS-BPEL business process model. The experiment takes purchase process of one shipbuilding company as an example to show the practical usability of the integrated modeling approach. © 2010 IEEE.

Abstract:A supply chain process involves variant departments and organizations and has its specialties distinguishing it from other business processes. To implement it in a SOA framework, unified service description is required. Nevertheless, the work of deriving service description from process models is arduous and inaccurately. To solve the problem, a novel approach is proposed. Firstly, meta-data for process model is extracted from SCOR (supply chain operation reference model), which provides standardized terminology and definitions for supply chain management. Thereafter, XML-Nets, a high-level Petri-Net, is employed for description of such process models and relevant characteristics of supply chain, as well for the following mapping models to service description. Finally, with aids of mapping rules, general description for service interface and orchestration can be smoothly derived, which comprehensively describe supply chain process and well support further IT development, analysis and improvements of supply chain management.

Abstract:A Supply Chain Process involves various departments and organizations. However, terminology for supply chain process models doesn't have formalized representations. Moreover, formal definitions of dynamic semantic of process models are commonly absent. Such problems discourage the integration of various process models from different partners. Thereafter, technologies of semantic annotation for business process models are developed to solve these problems. In this paper an ontological approach is proposed to annotate supply chain process models with semantic meanings. The ontology for supply chain process model, so-called scorBPMN ontology, is introduced for such semantic annotation, which specifies semantics of supply chain process models at both meta-model level and mode level. Then the similarity-based matching functionality is developed to link process model elements with concepts in the ontology. The proposed approach presents an ontological description of semantics of supply chain processes and similarity-based annotation of process models, so that various supply chain process models can be standardized and explained with unified semantic annotations, which is the basis for process integration, implementation and analysis.

Abstract:Existing process modeling languages lack the support for complex events.By extending BPMN,an events hierarchical model is proposed to express basic events and complex events.Further,a modeling method——CE-BPM is put forward,and its formal definition and graphical representation are provided,where complex events and complex event handling gateway graphics are added.Finally,an example of online shops is given to explain on how to use CE-BPM to solve the problems may be met when use BPMN.

Abstract:Business process is crucial to the success of any business. Business process modeling enables a common understanding and analysis of a business process, and simulation is an effective way to diagnose and evaluate complex business processes. There are lots of software tools in market for business process modeling and simulation, however, a common issue for these tools is the conflict between usability and flexibility. The improvement of usability often means the reduction of flexibility. This paper introduces an IBM asset named supply chain process modeler (SCPM), which aims at providing a tailored business process modeling and simulation environment for business users. SCPM tries to achieve a better trade-off between usability and flexibility with two major efforts, a process repository for process modeling, and a flexible environment for process simulation. A case study from real consulting practice is also included to illustrate how SCPM works for business process simulation.

Abstract:Supply chain transformation is to fundamentally rethink and radically redesign supply chain strategy, organization, processes and IT system(s) with the target of improving supply chain performance. This paper presents an integrated platform and a comprehensive methodology IBM Supply Chain Process Modeler (SCPM) for process-centric supply chain transformation. In the this methodology, the supply chain transformation is progressing along with the life cycle of business process management, from business process modeling, analyzing to optimizing or restructuring. The other contribution of the paper is the seamless integration of business process management tool and process execution IT system. Based on the integration, the huge gap between process model and execution system is closed and supply chain transformation decisions are realized in operation.

Abstract:Supply chain transformation is an embranchment of enterprise transformation to optimize supply chain performance while reducing cost to deal with the drastic global competition. End-to-end supply chain transformation includes complex changes and improvements for numerous aspects in multiply levels. IBM supply chain process modeler (SCPM) provides an integrated platform to support the whole life cycle of supply chain transformation with comprehensive methodology. Business process is the foundation and linkage of the whole supply chain transformation life cycle. SCPM supports decision making from strategy level, tactical level to operation level, and then deploys the re-engineered business processes into execution system to realize the transformation decisions. It has already been applied to several supply chain transformation projects and demonstrated to produce profound while smooth transformation.

Abstract:Aimed at resolving the second software crisis due to increasingly technical complexities and diversities of software development methods, Model Driven Architecture (MDA) was proposed in the late 2000. However, because of its lacking an effective and well-known modeling process or method, it is difficult to apply and promote MDA in the industry. In this paper, MDA is extended with a business model, and corresponding theory and presentation of the business model are explored, especially the dependencies and transformation mechanism of its sub-models are discussed. And a case of shopping is shown. Based on the business model, CIM is traced. And its advantages are discussed by compared with the Rational Unified Process (RUP) and Dines’ triptych paradigm. This research is helpful to apply MDA in the industry.

Abstract:Efficient supply chain management (SCM) requires consistent exchange and sharing of information semantics, which is often hindered by semantic clashes among heterogeneous applications. This paper proposes an ontology-based architecture for addressing the problem of semantic integration. A supply chain ontology (SCO) is developed by using the skeletal method to capture concepts and relationships common to SCM. Moreover, it is formally defined in OWL DL, a web-based ontology language, to serve as an interlingua for an architecture enabling information integration of SCM. Syntactic transformation between XML Schema and OWL in the architecture is implemented by syntactic translators that are developed by using XSLT. Furthermore, a rule-based approach is presented to map semantically similar terminologies between SCO and application ontologies with the aim of enabling semantic interoperability among applications in supply chains. The mapping rules are represented by SWRL, a rule description language that is independent of the rule languages specific to inference engines. In addition, a case study of a printer supply chain is illustrated to demonstrate the proposed methodology. Finally, a prototype system is developed using the Java platform to implement the SCO-based approach to semantic integration of SCM.

Abstract:The existing simulation software suites are hard to understand when applied to supply chain business. So an integrated modeling and simulation environment based on discrete-event method is proposed in this paper, as well as the supply chain model used in this software framework. The whole supply chain is consisted of enterprise nodes and links. Each node is made from supply, deliver, make, transportation, inventory, and finance, and links can represent transportation route, supply and demand relationship, or service relationship. The operations of supply chain are derived by the supply and demand relationships between enterprise nodes.

Abstract:Electronic commerce on the Internet has become exceedingly dynamic and interorganizational in recent times. Interorganizational workflow management system has become an important paradigm for business-to-business electronic commerce applications. The modeling of interorganizational business processes is a challenging task, due to the high degree of autonomy and heterogeneity of the cooperative organizations. A number of standardization initiatives are working on standards for modeling languages that can be employed under interorganizational environments. This paper presents a formal specification methodology for interorganizational workflow modeling which is founded upon the Pi-Calculus process algebra. This method works well for characterizing the behaviors and interactions of the workflow processes that belong to different organizations in terms of the semantics of Pi-Calculus. Experimental results show that the proposed method works well for the modeling of electronic commerce systems under interorganizational environments.

Abstract:With the business development of the process, the manager needs to improve the automation, efficiency and reliability of the business process management, especially in manufacturing area. To solve this problem, we have designed and implemented a supply chain management system, FMC (Flexible Manufacturing Chain), which integrates different aspects of the BPM lifecycle in a unified platform based on Activiti workflow engine. FMC is an effective system to model and execute flexible, data-driven, and user-centric business processes. It enables users to create process models graphically and flexibly, execute process more automatically, monitor the real-time process execution information and improve the process according to the deviations from conformance checking. The FMC system is used as a demo in this article, which is a supply chain system that provides a whole complex product line service including many departments and tasks.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to introduce a modeling approach to define, simulate, animate, and control business processes. The intent is to introduce the undergoing methodology to build tools for designing and managing business processes. Similar to computer aided design (CAD) for mechanical parts, CAD tools are needed for designing business processes. It emphasizes the dynamic behavior of business process. The proposed modeling technique consists of a definition of each individual activity, the network of activities, a control mechanism that describes coordination of these activities, and events that will flow through these activities. Based on the formalism introduced in this modeling technique, users will be able to define business process with minimum ambiguity, take snap shots of particular events in the process, describe the accountability of participants, and view a replay of event streams in the process flow. This modeling approach, mapped on top of a commercial software, has been tested by using examples from real life business process. The examples and testing helped us to identify some of the strengths and weaknesses of this proposed approach.

Abstract:Enacting a supply-chain process involves variant partners and different IT systems. REST receives increasing attention for distributed systems with loosely coupled resources. Nevertheless, resource model incompatibilities and conflicts prevent effective process modeling and deployment in resource-centric Web service environment. In this paper, a Petri-net based framework for supply-chain process integration is proposed. A resource meta-model is constructed to represent the basic information of resources. Then based on resource meta-model, XML schemas and documents are derived, which represent resources and their states in Petri-net. Thereafter, XML-net, a high level Petri-net, is employed for modeling control and data flow of process. From process model in XML-net, RESTful services and choreography descriptions are deduced. Therefore, unified resource representation and RESTful services description are proposed for cross-system integration in a more effective way. A case study is given to illustrate the approach and the desirable features of the approach are discussed.

Abstract:This paper presents a modelling methodology of a workflow system of operations in a supply chain (SC) aimed to improve, from the traditional method, the consistency and integrity of the workflow data being exchanged amongst business partners. In this research, an XML-supported modular petri net-based modelling technique is adopted for the representation of the local and global workflow of "practitioners" in a SC. After constructing a petri net, the model of workflow systems can be constructed, understood and analysed more easily. A modular compositional modelling method is adopted to fulfill the particular functional requirements of a collaborative modelling of dispersed business partners in an up-to-date globalised SC environment. Finally, the use of a widely adopted XML schema for data representation and standard interface and interconnection mechanisms development in a workflow model can further improve the model's overall flexibility and integrity.

Abstract:The goals of B2B electronic commerce and supply chain management system are to implement interoperability of independent enterprises, to smooth the information flow between them and to deploy business processes over multiple enterprises. The inherent characteristics of workflow system make it suitable to implement the cross organization management. This paper, firstly, proposes an inter-enterprises workflow model based on the agreement to support the construction of supply chain management system and B2B electronic commerce. This model has extended the standard workflow model. After that, an architecture which supports the model has been introduced, especially it details the structure and implementation of interfaces between enterprises.

Abstract:Integrating RFID to enterprise business process is now becoming an important aspect in RFID research field. The conventional business process integrating method can hardly meet the need of RFID business applications. In this paper, we introduce an RFID middleware business process integration framework based on EPC modeling and complex event processing. This framework allows users to rapidly model the RFID business process and integrate with the RFID event submitted by the RFID middleware infrastructure. We use EPC modeling and complex event processing to make RFID event-driven business process model more reasonable and to reduce the complexity and difficulty of enterprise application development. This paper explains the architecture and every component of this framework in detail, and finally gives some scenarios of using this framework to integrate RFID business.
