Abstract:A vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) is a special mobile ad hoc network that provides vehicle collaborative security applications using intervehicle communication technology. The method enables vehicles to exchange information (e.g., emergency brake). In VANET, there are many vehicle platoon driving scenes, where vehicles with identical attributes (location, organization, etc.) are organized as a group. However, this organization causes the issue of security threats (message confidentiality, identity privacy, etc.) because of an unsafe wireless communication channel. To protect the security and privacy of group communication, it is necessary to design an effective group key agreement scheme. By negotiating a dynamic session secret key using a fixed roadside unit (RSU), which has stronger computational ability than the on-board unit (OBU) equipped on the vehicle, the designed scheme can help to provide more stable communication performance and speed up the encryption and decryption processes. To effectively implement the anonymous authentication mechanism and authentication efficiency, we use a batch authentication scheme and a shared secret key mechanism among the vehicles, RSUs and trusted authority (TA). We design an efficient group secret key agreement scheme, which satisfies the above communication and security requirements, protects the privacy of vehicles, and traces the real identity of the vehicle at a time when it is necessary. Computational analysis shows that the proposed scheme is secure and more efficient than existing schemes.

Abstract:A Tree-based Multicast group Key Management (TMKM) protocol for ubiquitous computing is proposed to generate, distribute, and update the group key. The whole group is divided into the server layer and the user layer, and the user layer is further divided into subgroups. Every subgroup is initialised as a balanced binary tree. We employ hierarchical group key management method for the whole topology and centralised group key management method for subgroup, so TMKM takes advantage of centralised and distributed key group management. Compared with some other group key management protocols, TMKM shows higher superiority on security, scalability and computation complexity.

Abstract:Most of the applications in MANET are based on group communication,and information sharing between groups also plays an important part.Security must be paid more attention because of the unreliability of MANET,so a secure scheme is proposed.This scheme which is proxy-based could ensure the security of information sharing between groups in MANET.LKH is adopted to implement key management in each group,and members from the other groups achieve secure communication with the group through mutual authe-ntication and key agreement.The analysis proves that the scheme is not only consumes less storage,computation and communication resource but also secure.

Abstract:A group key agreement protocol based on m-tree and DMDH assumption is developed to improve the poor scalability and efficiency of most existing group key agreement protocols in dynamic peer communication.This protocol combined m-tree with DMDH assumption,which key agreement is completed by which all group members agreed on variable m to fix on key tree and selected corresponding multilinear map from cluster of multilinear maps.Meanwhile,it much more applied to LAN and WAN by which communication and computation costs are balanced by variable m.Compared with TGDH and GDH,it made a great progress in security,scalability and efficiency.

Abstract:Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) are self-configuring networks of wireless nodes, i.e., mobile devices. Since communications in MANETs occur via wireless channels, it is of significance to secure communications among wireless and mobile nodes. Group key management, as a widely used method for securing group communications, has potentially been used in MANETs for years. Most recently, a secure receiver-unrestricted group key management scheme for MANETs has been proposed, which is used to establish a secure channel among a group of wireless nodes without a trusted dealer, which has some advantages such as eliminating the certificate management problem and receiver restriction. However, a formal security analysis of this scheme is still lacking. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the complete security proof to demonstrate that the scheme satisfies the essential security properties including authentication, message confidentiality, known-key security and dynamic secrecy. We also give a brief discussion about the efficiency of the scheme.

Abstract:Mobile ad hoc networks offer convenient infrastructureless communications over the shared wireless channel. However, the nature of mobile ad hoc networks makes them vulnerable to security attacks, such as passive eavesdropping over the wireless channel and denial of service attacks by malicious nodes. To ensure the security, several cryptography protocols are implemented. Due to the resource scarcity in mobile ad hoc networks, the protocols must be communication efficient and need as less computational power as possible. Broadcast communication is an important operation for many application in mobile ad hoc networks. To securely broadcast a message, all the members in the network need share a group key so that they can use efficient symmetric encryption, such as DES and AES. Several group key management protocols have been proposed. However, not all of them are communication efficient when applied to mobile ad hoc networks. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical key agreement protocol that is communication efficient to mobile ad hoc networks. We also show how to manage the group efficiently in a mobile environment.

Abstract:The 60 GHz ultra-high-speed Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) has received considerable attention in recent years. Information security, which ensures secure communication within the network, is of particular importance. In this paper, we propose an efficient lightweight key management scheme for 60 GHz WPAN, which deploys secure encryption algorithms and one-way hash function to achieve efficient key exchange and updating managements. Detailed security analysis has shown its security provisions. In addition, performance evaluation is also provided to demonstrate its efficiency in terms of session key distribution and group key updating.

Abstract:In the path-key establishment phase of existing pre-distribution key management schemes,there are many problems,such as long path-key establishment path,high communication overhead,and low secure network connectivity growth rate.In order to resolve these problems,an enhanced scheme for establishing the path-key is proposed.In path-key set up phase,the proposed scheme makes full use of the pre-distributed keys in the securely connected neighboring nodes within the communication range of the node,and increases the number of nodes used to negotiate the path-key.Analysis and comparison results between the enhanced scheme and the original scheme without the enhanced method show that with the enhanced scheme,secure network connectivity rate is obviously improved,and it achieves to 1 quickly.Moreover,the enhanced scheme needs much less pre-distributed keys to achieve the prospective network connectivity rate.

Abstract:Secure communication between two nodes in a network depends on reliable key management systems that generate and distribute keys between communicating nodes and a secure routing protocol that establishes a route between them. But due to lack of central server and infrastructure in Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs), this is major problem to manage the keys in the network. Dynamically changes in network's topology causes weak trust relationship among the nodes in the network. In MANETs a mobile node operates as not only end terminal but also as an intermediate router. Therefore, a multi-hop scenario occurs for communication in MANETs; where there may be one or more malicious nodes in between source and destination. A routing protocol is said to be secure that detects the detrimental effects of malicious node(s in the path from source to destination). In this paper, we proposed a key management scheme and a secure routing protocol that secures on demand routing protocol such as DSR and AODV. We assume that MANETs is divided into groups having a group leader in each group. Group leader has responsibility of key management in its group. Proposed key management scheme is a decentralized scheme that does not require any Trusted Third Party (TTP) for key management. In proposed key management system, both a new node and group leader authenticates each other mutually before joining the network. While proposed secure routing protocol allows both communicating parties as well as intermediate nodes to authenticate other nodes and maintains message integrity

Abstract:Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) is a collection of autonomous nodes or terminals which communicate with each other by forming a multi-hop radio network and maintaining connectivity in a decentralized manner. The conventional security solutions to provide key management through accessing trusted authorities or centralized servers are infeasible for this new environment since mobile ad hoc networks are characterized by the absence of any infrastructure, frequent mobility, and wireless links. We propose a hierarchical group key management scheme that is hierarchical and fully distributed with no central authority and uses a simple rekeying procedure which is suitable for large and high mobility mobile ad hoc networks. The rekeying procedure requires only one round in our scheme and Chinese Remainder Theorem Diffie Hellman Group Diffie Hellmann and Burmester and Desmedt it is a constant 3 whereas in other schemes such as Distributed Logical Key Hierarchy and Distributed One Way Function Trees, it depends on the number of members. We reduce the energy consumption during communication of the keying materials by reducing the number of bits in the rekeying message. We show through analysis and simulations that our scheme has less computation, communication and energy consumption compared to the existing schemes.

Abstract:The Relay Task Group of IEEE 802.16 has developed IEEE 802.16j which supports mobile multi-hop relay (MMR). MMR utilizes relay stations (RS) to extend network capability. Since attacks are easy to mount in wireless interface between RSs and BS, security issues seem to be more important. This paper proposes a group key management scheme that agrees with the Security Zone Key (SZK) specified in IEEE 802.16j. The scheme has two features. First, the re-keying mechanism is efficient lightweight. Second, the scheme is flexible to allow new RSs to join the group.

Abstract:This paper proposes a new key management scheme for wireless sensor networks to reduce the memory and communication overhead, and improve the security capacity. Comparing with the typical key pre-distribution schemes, a new method of establishing keys is adopted, and is analyzed deeply in three important performance indexes. The theory of liner combination is applied to generate the keys using the random vectors in vector group. In order to validate such positive effects of the proposed scheme, simulations are performed on the software of Matlab7.1. The results of simulations demonstrate that the proposed scheme has better performances to improve the resilience to node capture of the networks and reduces the memory and communication overhead than that of key pre-distribution schemes.

Abstract:The negative impact of network partitions on the availability of key management services in mobile ad hoc networks(MANET) is alleviated by a robust key management approach for MANET based on the distributed certificate authority(DCA).Auxiliary shares are used to increase the redundancy of shares in the networks thereby ensuring robustness and security at the same time.Simulations show that the average failure ratio for DCA requests is reduced by more than 50%. A security analysis and simulations show that the approach ensures system robustness and thwarts common attacks.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a distributed key management framework based on group signature to provision privacy in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs). Distributed key management is expected to facilitate the revocation of malicious vehicles, maintenance of the system, and heterogeneous security policies, compared with the centralized key management assumed by the existing group signature schemes. In our framework, each road side unit (RSU) acts as the key distributor for the group, where a new issue incurred is that the semi-trust RSUs may be compromised. Thus, we develop security protocols for the scheme which are able to detect compromised RSUs and their colluding malicious vehicles. Moreover, we address the issue of large computation overhead due to the group signature implementation. A practical cooperative message authentication protocol is thus proposed to alleviate the verification burden, where each vehicle just needs to verify a small amount of messages. Details of possible attacks and the corresponding solutions are discussed. We further develop a medium access control (MAC) layer analytical model and carry out NS2 simulations to examine the key distribution delay and missed detection ratio of malicious messages, with the proposed key management framework being implemented over 802.11 based VANETs.

Abstract:In order to ensure the security of mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), the research on certificateless key management scheme is attracting more and more attention. The certificateless key management scheme can well resist the key escrow problem and it is very suitable for MANET, which is source-constrained and has no public key infrastructure. In this paper, we give an overview of some recent certificateless key management schemes and analyse their advantages and disadvantages. Then we make a comparison of their main methods, key distribution, private key generation and their calculation cost. Finally we put forward a suggestion to solve the problems existing in the certificateless key management scheme.

Abstract:An end-to-end shared secret key between two distant nodes in a mobile ad hoc network(MANET) is essential for providing secure communication between them. However, to provide effective security in a MANET, end-to-end key establishment should be secure against both internal as well as external malicious nodes. An external malicious node in a MANET does not possess any valid security credential related to the MANET, whereas an internal malicious node would possess some valid security credentials related to the MANET. Most of the protocols for end-to-end key establishment in MANETs either make an unrealistic assumption that an end-to-end secure channel exists between source and destination or use bandwidth consuming multi-path schemes. In this paper, we propose a simple and efficient protocol for end-to-end key establishment during route discovery (E2-KDR) in MANETs. Unlike many other existing schemes, the protocol establishes end-to-end key using trust among the nodes which, during initial stage, is established using public key certificate issued by an off-line membership granting authority. However, the use of public key in the proposed protocol is minimal to make it efficient. Since the key is established during route discovery phase, it reduces the key establishment time. The proposed protocol exploits mobility to establish end-to-end key, and provides comprehensive solution by making use of symmetric keys for protecting routing control messages and end-to-end communication. Moreover, as the end-to-end keys are established during route discovery phase, the protocol is on-demand and only necessary keys are established, which makes the protocol storage scalable. The protocol is shown to be secure using security analysis, and its efficiency is confirmed by the results obtained from simulation experiments.

Abstract:The current wireless sensor network designs are largely based on a layered approach. The suboptimality and inflexibility of this paradigm result in poor performance, due to constraints of power, communication, and computational capabilities. Key management plays an important role in wireless sensor networks, because it not only takes charge of securing link-layer communications between nodes, but also has great effects on other protocol layers, e.g. routing and IDS (Intrusion Detection System). However, no existing key management protocols have attached enough importance to cross-layering designs. In this paper, we propose a cross-layering key management scheme, which can provide other protocol layers with a nice trust-level metric. The trust-level metric is generated during the pairwise key establishment phase, and it varies as system conditions change. This metric describes the security level between two neighboring nodes and helps other protocol layers to make decisions. We also present simulations and analysis to show the superior characteristics of our scheme against both passive attacks and active attacks.

Abstract:Confidentiality, integrity, and authentication services are critical to preventing an adversary from compromising the security of a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). An essential component of any key-based security solution is managing the encryption keys to providing this protection. Hence, we propose a novel group key management scheme based on the key-chain tree mechanism for the clustered WSNs in this paper. In this scheme, the functions of key management are decoupled and distributed among multiple network elements of the clustered WSNs for providing compromise/failure resistance. This scheme also supports rekeying to enhance network security and survivability against the node capture. Analysis results show that the scheme does provide a secure encryption of the messages even if the revoked sensor nodes collude with each other or the cluster head is compromised.

Abstract:The group signature based security scheme is a promising approach to provision privacy in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs). In this paper, we propose a novel distributed key management scheme for group signature based VANETs, which is expected to considerably facilitate the revocation of malicious vehicles, location privacy protection, heterogenous security policies, and maintenance of the system, compared with the centralized key management assumed by the existing group signature schemes. The distributed nature of the proposed scheme is that the road side units (RSUs) will be responsible for distributing group private keys in a localized manner. A brand- new issue induced by the distributed scheme is that the semi-trust RSUs may be compromised. So we develop security protocols for the distributed key management, which are capable of identifying the compromised RSUs and their collusion with the malicious vehicles if any. Details of possible attacks and the corresponding solutions are discussed to demonstrate the performance of the proposed security protocols.
