Expression of Cyclooxygenase in Gastric Carcinoma and Its Correlation with NF-kappaB

Abstract:Objective: To explore the biological significances of cyclooxygenase(COX) in patients with gastric cancer and its correlation with NF-κB.Methods: Forty-one cases of gastric carcinomas and normal tissues were detected for COX-2 and NF-κB with RT-PCR and Western blot.Results: Of the 41 cases,28 showed positive COX-2 expression and 26 showed positive NF-κB expression.The expression of COX-2 was positiveily correlated with those of NF-κB(P 0.05).COX-2 and NF-κB expression was not correlated with such clinicopathological parameters as age,sex,size and histological types.However,there was a positive relationship between COX-2 gene expression and depth of invasion or lymph node metastasis.Conclusion: The study demonstrated that the overexpression of COX-2 gene may participate in the oncogenesis and progression of gastric carcinoma.NF-κB plays an important role in the process of invasion and metastasis of tumor cells by inducing high expression of COX-2.
