Law of traffic accidents in China

Abstract:Based on the analysis of ten countries, the relationship between the characteristics of social economy and traffic accidents is found. The traffic safety development model which proposed by foreign researchers is verified with the most recent data, and the applicability of the model under different level of motorization is then analyzed. The results indicate that the model seems good at the preliminary level of motorization in different countries, but not at the mature level. Further more, comparing the development characteristics of traffic accidents of China with those abroad, the authors discover, Chinese level of traffic safety is better than most of other countries' under the same level of motorization. Finally, the traffic accident model which adapts to China's traffic safety and motorization pattern is put forward and the development stage of China's traffic accidents is identified and presented. The model can be used to forecast the developing direction of China's traffic safety and correspond measurements according to the forecast are brought forward. Copyright ASCE 2007.
