Abstract:This paper presents a condition in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) for the quadratic stability of discrete-time interval 2-D systems. With Matlab, it is very convenient to solve this problem. Necessity shows that the condition is less conservative in some cases. The illustrative example shows that this method is effective to check the quadratic stability of discrete-time interval 2-D systems.

Abstract:Stability of vertical upright position of an inverted pendulum with its suspension point subjected to high frequency harmonics and stochastic excitations is investigated. Two classes of excitations, i.e., combined high frequency harmonic excitation and Gaussian white noise excitation, and high frequency bounded noise excitation, respectively, are considered. Firstly, the terms of high frequency harmonic excitations in the equation of motion of the system can be set equivalent to nonlinear stiffness terms by using the method of direct separation of motions. Then the stochastic averaging method of energy envelope is used to derive the averaged Ito stochastic differential equation for system energy. Finally, the stability with probability 1 of the system is studied by using the largest Lyapunov exponent obtained from the averaged Ito stochastic differential equation. The effects of system parameters on the stability of the system are discussed, and some examples are given to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed procedure.

Abstract:The double inverted pendulum is an absolute unstable, high-order, multi-parameter, less-driven and nonlinear system. To stabilize the inverted pendulum, the incremental mathematical model of this system is built based on the Lagrangian mechanics. The discrete-time model predictive control based on the Laguerre series is a new novel control technology, which uses Laguerre series to represent the trace of control signal in the future and optimizes the trace simultaneously. What's more, the technology can bring in the digital integral factor in the control system to improve the ability of anti-interference. So it is applied to stabilize the double inverted pendulum. The simulation experiment shows that the control strategy is effective and practical. © 2011 IEEE.

Abstract:In this note, property of dichotomy and Lagrange stability of the uncertain pendulum-like systems with additional, multiplicative and H∞ uncertainty are considered, respectively. By using some results of H∞ theory the property of dichotomy and Lagrange stability of uncertain pendulum-like systems with multiple equilibria are transformed into L∞ or H∞ norm condition of some transfer functions. The convergence problem of all bounded solutions for some uncertain pendulum-like systems can be converted into the internal stability of another system under unstructured perturbations.

Abstract:This paper firstly analyses the physical model of planar single inverted pendulum system, then builds the mathematical model of this system based on Lagrangian mechanics. These characteristics: multi-parameter, less-driven, strong coupling and highly nonlinearity make it difficult to stabilize the planar inverted pendulum system. But nearby the upright equilibrium of this system, the nonlinear mathematical model of the system can be linearized and get decoupled in X-axis and Y-axis. Then two LQR controllers are designed for each linear inverted pendulum in each axis respectively, and they are almost the same. At last, the simulation experiments in MATLAB test and verify the mathematical model is right and the control policy is effective. © 2011 IEEE.

Abstract:This paper studies the Lagrange stabilization of a class of nonlinear systems whose linear part has a singular system matrix and which have multiple periodic (in state) nonlinearities. Both state and output feedback Lagrange stabilization problems are considered. The paper develops a pseudo H-infinity control theory to solve these stabilization problems. In a similar fashion to the Strict Bounded Real Lemma in classic H-infinity control theory, a Pseudo Strict Bounded Real Lemma is established for systems with a single unstable pole. Sufficient conditions for the synthesis of state feedback and output feedback controllers are given to ensure that the closed-loop system is pseudo strict bounded real. The pseudo H-infinity control approach is applied to solve state feedback and output feedback Lagrange stabilization problems for nonlinear systems with multiple nonlinearities. An example is given to illustrate the proposed method.

Abstract:This paper focus on a stabilization problem for a class of nonlinear systems with periodic nonlinearities, called pendulum-like systems. A notion of Lagrange stabilizability is introduced, which extends the concept of Lagrange stability to the case of controller synthesis. Based on this concept, we address the problem of designing a linear dynamic output controller which stabilizes (in the Lagrange sense) a pendulum-like system within the framework of the H∞ control theory. Lagrange stabilizability conditions for uncertainty-free systems and systems with norm-bounded uncertainty in the linear part are derived, respectively. When these conditions are satisfied, the desired stabilization output feedback controller can be constructed via feasible solutions of a certain set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs).

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the problem of robust lagrange stability of pendulum like systems with norm constraint structured uncertainties. For the robust lagrange stability analysis of uncertain pendulum like systems, by applying the structured singular value of a transfer function to structured uncertainty, a new frequency domain condition is obtained. Furthermore, based on the analysis results, and using KYP lemma, a dynamic output feedback controller for the closed loop systems guaranteeing lagrange stability is designed.

Abstract:In this article, the low frequency Lagrange stabilization issue is investigated for a pendulum‐like system. To this end, an H∞ control method is developed for converting the frequency‐domain stabilization condition into an H∞ norm bound requirement in low frequency domain. With the aid of a generalized Kalman‐Yakubovich‐Popov (KYP) lemma, time‐domain matrix inequality conditions are derived to assure both pendulum‐like and low frequency Lagrange stability properties for the closed‐loop system. Furthermore, an output feedback Lagrange stabilization controller is constructed via feasible solutions of a certain set of linear matrix inequalities. An illustrative example is provided to verify the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed controller.

Abstract:This paper is motivated by the stability problem of nonconstant periodic solutions of time‐periodic Lagrangian equations, like the swing and the elliptic Sitnikov problem. As a beginning step, we will study the linearized stability and instability of nonconstant periodic solutions that are bifurcated from those of autonomous Lagrangian equations. Applying the theory for Hill equations, we will establish a criterion for linearized stability. The criterion shows that the linearized stability depends on the temporal frequencies of the perturbed systems in a delicate way.

Abstract:In this paper we consider an abstract linear system with perturbation of the form (dy/dt) = Ay + εBy on a Hilbert space H, where A is skew-adjoint, B is bounded, and ε is a positive parameter. Motivated by a result of Freitas and Zuazua on the one-dimensional wave equation with indefinite viscous damping [JDE, 1996], we obtain sufficient conditions for the exponential stability for the above system when B is not a dissipative operator. Our result is then applied to many elastic systems with indefinite viscous damping.

More precisely, we prove that under suitable impulses, all the solutions of the impulsive Duffing equation (with low regularity in time) are bounded for all time and that there are many (positive Lebesgue measure) quasi-periodic solutions clustering at infinity.

Abstract:The global properties and robust stability of pendulumlike systems under linearly correlated parameter perturbations were studied. Based on the vertex test and robust strictly positive realness theory, sufficient conditions for dichotomy, Lagrange stability and Bakaev stability are derived for the systems in the perturbation mode. The main results show that the global properties and the robust stability of such systems can be analyzed by using the finite element test.

Abstract:This work discusses the boundedness of solutions for impulsive Duffing equation with time-dependent polynomial potentials. By KAM theorem, we prove that all solutions of the Duffing equation with low regularity in time undergoing suitable impulses are bounded for all time and that there are many (positive Lebesgue measure) quasi-periodic solutions clustering at infinity. This result extends some well-known results on Duffing equations to impulsive Duffing equations.
Chaos and Regularity in the Double Pendulum with Lagrangian Descriptors

Abstract:In this paper we apply the method of Lagrangian descriptors as an indicator to study the chaotic and regular behavior of trajectories in the phase space of the classical double pendulum system. In order to successfully quantify the degree of chaos with this tool, we first derive Hamilton's equations of motion for the problem in non-dimensional form, showing that they can be written compactly using matrix algebra. Once the dynamical equations are obtained, we carry out a parametric study in terms of the system's total energy and the other model parameters (lengths and masses of the pendulums, and gravity), to determine the extent of the chaotic and regular regions in the phase space. Our numerical results show that for a given mass ratio, the maximum chaotic fraction of phase space trajectories is attained when the pendulums have equal lengths. Moreover, we give a characterization of the growth and decay of chaos in the system in terms of the model parameters, and explore the hypothesis that the chaotic fraction follows an exponential law over different energy regimes.

Abstract:This paper surveys frequency-domain and time-domain methods for feedback nonlinear systems and their possible applications to chaos control, coupled systems and complex dynamical networks. The absolute stability of Lur’e systems with single equilibrium and global properties of a class of pendulum-like systems with multi-equilibria are discussed. Time-domain and frequency-domain criteria for the convergence of solutions are presented. Some latest results on analysis and control of nonlinear systems with multiple equilibria and applications to chaos control are reviewed. Finally, new chaotic oscillating phenomena are shown in a pendulum-like system and a new nonlinear system with an attraction/repulsion function.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the modeling of hybrid systems with infinite dimensions by semigroup theory,and by approaches such as multi-Lyapunov methods,several asymptotical stability criteria are given out based on special definitions of asymptotical stability and uniformly bounded on this particular hybrid system model.A specific theorem is proposed for the existence of common lyapunov function to the infinite dimensional switched systems with finite subsystems,which extends the current results,and then based on the definition and characteristic of the circular operator,one equivalent theorem is proposed concerning the existence of common Lyapunov function.
