Abstract:The influence factors on bio-H2 production from digested sludge and hyacinth by co-fermentation were studied in this paper. It is found that a large quantity of H2 is produced from the digested sludge as the fermentable substrate, which is inoculated with the cultivated H2-production bacteria originated from the boiled digested sludge. When hyacinth is used as the fermentable substrate, its root enriched with various heavy metals that can restrain the activation of H2-production bacteria should be removed in advance. The hyacinth mainly composed of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin should be pretreated with alkaline or acid solutions and hydrolyzed with cellulose, in order to be easily utilized by H2-production bacteria for producing considerable bio-H2. The light hyacinth residue floating on the surface of fermentation solution should be effectively dealt with to release the generated H2 gas out of the fermentation reactor in time. Otherwise, over accumulation and excess pressure of H2 in the reactor severely restrain the activity of H2-production bacteria and result in a remarkable reduction in H2 yield. The maximum H2 yield of 116.3 mL/g TS is obtained from the digested sludge inoculated with the cultivated H2-production bacteria, while the mean H2 concentration in the biogas is 64.95%.
