Abstract:This paper investigates a few forms of Runge–Kutta methods based on dynamic iteration for index-2 differential–algebraic equations. In particular, the convergence of iterative Runge–Kutta methods is proven for the complex systems. The iterative processes allow implementation with different meshes, which can help improve the accuracy and the stability properties of the proposed method. Finally, the iterative schemes how to appropriately implement on the parallel computers are also involved.

The new convergence results are obtained, which are relevant in applications to stiff dynamical systems described by the nonlinear DAEs of index-3. The parallel iterative algorithms are very general and even allow the inclusion of different interpolation formulae along the meshes.

Abstract:In this paper we consider continuous-time and discrete-time waveform relaxation methods for general nonlinear integral-differential-algebraic equations. For the continuous-time case we derive the convergence condition of the iterative methods by invoking the spectral theory on the resulting iterative operators. By use of the implicit difference forms, namely the backward-differentiation formulae, we also yield the convergence condition of the discrete waveforms. Numerical experiments are provided to illustrate the theoretical work reported here.

Abstract:Spatial discretizations of time-dependent partial differential equations usually result in a large system of semi-linear and stiff ordinary differential equations. Taking the structures into account, we develop a family of linearly implicit and high order accurate schemes for the time discretization, using the idea of implicit-explicit Runge-Kutta methods and the relaxation techniques. The proposed schemes are monotonicity-preserving/conservative for the original problems, while the previous linearized methods are usually not. We also discuss the linear stability and strong stability preserving (SSP) property of the new relaxation methods. Numerical experiments on several typical models are presented to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

Abstract:For solving nonlinear index-2 differential-algebraic systems, the iterative processes of waveform relaxation based on the continuous extension Runge-Kutta methods are investigated. The theoretical models are very general and even allow include different interpolation formulae along the mesh. This method is suitable to decouple the complex, singular systems of instantaneous state. For a windowing method one of the accelerating techniques, the convergence theory of the more complicated iterative processes is concluded.

Abstract:Waveform relaxation methods are decoupling or splitting methods for large scale ordinary differential equations. In this paper, we apply the methods directly to semi-linear parabolic partial functional differential equations. Taking into consideration of the complicated forms of these parabolic equations, we propose a kind of embedded waveform relaxation methods, which are in fact two-level waveform relaxation methods and which can also be applied to some other systems. We provide explicit iterative expressions of the embedded methods and exhibit the superlinear rate of convergence on finite time intervals. We also apply the two-level idea to the functional differential equations derived from semi-discretization of the original system. The windowing technique is employed for the situation of long time intervals. Finally, two numerical experiments are performed to confirm our theory.

Abstract:We present theoretical results on the convergence of iterative methods for the solution of linear differential-algebraic equations arising from circuit simulation. The iterative methods considered include the continuous-time and discrete-time waveform relaxation methods and the Krylov subspace methods in function space. The waveform generalized minimal residual method for solving linear differential-algebraic equations in function space is developed, which is one of the waveform Krylov subspace methods. Some new criteria for convergence of these iterative methods are derived. Examples are given to verify the convergence conditions.

Abstract:Implicit Runge-Kutta methods are known as highly accurate and stable methods for solving differential equations. However, the iteration technique used to solve implicit Runge-Kutta methods requires a lot of computational efforts. To lessen the computational effort, one can iterate simultaneously at a number of points along the t -axis. In this paper, we extend the PDIRK (Parallel Diagonal Iterated Runge-Kutta) methods to delay differential equations (DDEs). We give the region of convergence and analyze the speed of convergence in three parts for the P -stability region of the Runge-Kutta corrector. It is proved that PDIRK methods to DDEs are efficient, and the diagonal matrix D of the PDIRK methods for DDES can be selected in the same way as for ordinary differential equations (ODEs).

Abstract:In this work, we consider and analyze explicit exponential Runge–Kutta methods for solving semilinear time-fractional integro-differential equation, which involves two nonlocal terms in time. Firstly, the temporal Runge–Kutta discretizations follow the idea of exponential integrators. Subsequently, we utilize the spectral Galerkin method to introduce a fully discrete scheme. Then, we mainly focus on discussing the one-stage and two-stage methods for solving the proposed semilinear problem. Based on special abstract settings, we perform the convergence analysis for the proposed two different stage methods. In this process, we heavily use estimates about the operator family {S̃(t)}, and in combination with Lipschitz continuous condition. Finally, some numerical experiments confirm theoretical results. Meanwhile, applying this scheme to the related linear problem yields high-order convergence, highlighting the advantages of explicit exponential Runge–Kutta methods.

Abstract:Three new Runge–Kutta methods are presented for numerical integration of systems of linear inhomogeneous ordinary differential equations (ODEs) with constant coefficients. Such ODEs arise in the numerical solution of partial differential equations governing linear wave phenomena. The restriction to linear ODEs with constant coefficients reduces the number of conditions which the coefficients of the Runge–Kutta method must satisfy. This freedom is used to develop methods which are more efficient than conventional Runge–Kutta methods. A fourth-order method is presented which uses only two memory locations per dependent variable, while the classical fourth-order Runge–Kutta method uses three. This method is an excellent choice for simulations of linear wave phenomena if memory is a primary concern. In addition, fifth- and sixth-order methods are presented which require five and six stages, respectively, one fewer than their conventional counterparts, and are therefore more efficient. These methods are an excellent option for use with high-order spatial discretizations.

Abstract:In order to improve the efficiency of flow solver,a point-implicit Runge-Kutta method is raised on the basis of the Euler solver with an explicit Runge-Kutta method time marching.The derivation of preconditioner is presented.Its constructions,according to the central and upwind(Roe-and Van Leer-scheme) spatial discretization,based on unstructured grid are given,respectively.The simulations of the transonic inviscid flow around NACA0012 and RAE2822 show that comparing with the explicit Runge-Kutta method,the efficientcy is improved by the presented algorithm with a moderate memory increment.

Abstract:For large-scale non-autonomous Stratonovich stochastic differential equations, we study a very general parallel waveform relaxation process which is on the basis of stochastic Runge–Kutta (SRK) method of mean-square order 1.0 in this literature. The convergence of the whole parallel numerical iterative scheme can be guaranteed and the scheme provides better properties in terms of decreasing the load of the computation and operating speed. At the same time, the related limit method is also introduced as the continuous approximation derived from the iterative scheme. In the approximation interval, it is worth noting that the mean-square order of the parallel numerical iterative scheme can be kept consistent with the previous SRK method at any arbitrary time point, not just at discrete points. Some numerical simulations are presented to elaborate the computing efficiency of the parallel numerical iterative scheme.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with nonlinear stability and computational effectiveness of Runge-Kutta methods for solving stiff multi-delay integro-differential equations.The classi- cal Runge-Kutta methods,together with the compound quadrature formulae and the Pouzet quadrature formulae,are adapted to a class of nonlinear stiff multi-delay integro-differential equations of Volterra type.The analysis derive that the extended Runge-Kutta methods are globally and asymptotically stable under the suitable conditions.Moreover,the numerical experiments show that the presented methods are highly effective.

Abstract:The waveform relaxation method has been successfully applied into solving fractional ordinary differential equations and fractional functional differential equations [11, 5]. In this paper, the waveform relaxation method is further used to solve fractional differential-algebraic equations, which often arise in integrated circuits with new memory materials. We give the iteration scheme of the waveform relaxation method and analyze the convergence of the method under linear and nonlinear conditions for the right-hand of the equations. Numerical examples illustrate the feasibility and efficiency of the method.
