Abstract:PAH have been found in air, water, soil and sediment. The burning of fossil fuel (e.g., diesel engines, domestic heating, pyrolysis of coal, or tobacco smoke) mainly distribute to the ambient PAH concentrations and ∼ 90% of PAH emissions are anthropogenic. A study was carried out to determine the concentrations of particle-associated PAH of motor vehicles' exhaust in Taiyuan City and to establish the PAH profile. Diesel vehicles discharged more total PAH compared to gasoline vehicles. The profiles of PAH were determined for diesel and gasoline. The main PAH emitted from diesel vehicles were PYR, PHE, FLT and INP, while gasoline vehicles mainly discharged DBA, INP, COR, and BghiP. PAH with five or more rings in gasoline exhaust were higher than those in diesel discharges. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 231st ACS National Meeting (Atlanta, GA 3/26-30/2006).
