Abstract:Three new species of Stemphylium were isolated from diseased leaves of Luffa cylindrica, Lycium chinense and Cucumis melo growing in the Sinkiang province of Northwest China. Stemphylium luffae, S. lycii and S. cucumis are described by morphological and molecular phylogenetic analyses. The principal morphological characteristics of these three species are congruent with those of Stemphylium. They are distinguished from morphologically similar Stemphylium species based on characteristics of their conidia and conidiophores. In order to establish the molecular phylogenetic status of these species, DNA loci including the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) nuclear rDNA region and the glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (gpd) genes were amplified and sequenced. Phylogenetic analyses using Maximum-Parsimony (MP) and Neighbor-Joining (NJ) were performed on the combined DNA sequences of ITS and gpd gene regions. Both morphological observations and molecular analyses support S. luffae, S. lycii and S. cucumis as three new taxa.

Abstract:Based on field surveys and a review of literature and herbarium specimens, three new Begonia in section Platycentrum from South China are confirmed and reported with morphological descriptions and illustrations, namely Begonia liangguangensis D.K.Tian & J.Y.Zhou, B. shaoqingii D.K.Tian & J.Y.Zhou, and B. qinzhouensis D.K.Tian & J.Y.Zhou. These three new species are morphologically compared with their allied species. Their conservation statuses are provisionally assessed as Endangered, Endangered, and Critically Endangered, respectively, according to Guidelines for Using IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria.

Abstract:Impatiens longshanensis (The LSID for the name Impatiens longshanensis is: 77219154-1) sp. nov. and I. lihengiana (The LSID for the name I. lihengiana is: 77219153-1) sp. nov., from Hunan, China, are described and illustrated here. The molecular phylogenetic study suggests that I. longshanensis and I. lihengiana should be placed in the I. sect. Impatiens. A detailed description, diagnostic characters between the two new species and allied species, pollen and seed morphology, and color photographs are provided. In addition, based on wide sampling, we found that the longifilamenta group, an endemic group to China, whose members have basal lobes of lateral united petals with long filamentous hairs, shows significant morphological variability. In this paper, we discuss the taxonomic significance of morphological characteristics within this group. Based on a literature review and observation of living materials in the field, an updated identification key for this group is also proposed.

Abstract:Two new species of Stemphylium (anamorphic Pleospora) are described on the basis of morphological characters and molecular phylogenetic analyses. Stemphylium phaseolina and S. variabilis were isolated respectively from diseased leaves of Phaseolus vulgaris L. in Hebei Province, China, and from diseased leaves of Allium sativum L. in Angres, France. The two species exhibit characteristic Stemphylium morphology but are distinct from similar species based on the morphology and development of conidia. The internal transcribed spacer (ITS) nuclear rDNA region and glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (gpd) genes were sequenced. The results of maximum parsimony (MP) and maximum likelihood (ML) phylogenetic analyses of the combined DNA sequences of these two gene regions supported S. phaseolina and S. variabilis as two distinct phylogenetic species. The taxonomic descriptions of the new species and their comparison with related species are presented, together with the phylogenetic analysis based on combined DNA sequences of ITS and gpd gene regions.

Abstract:As the supplement of the flora of Zhejiang, East China, two new species were described with illustrations. Cerastiumhuadingense Y.F.Lu, W.Y.Xie & X.F.Jin (Caryophyllaceae) differs from C.qingliangfengicum in having sterile stems absent, leaves sessile, petals slightly longer than sepals, and stamens slightly shorter than sepals. Ixeridiumdimorphifolium Y.L.Xu, Y.F.Lu & X.Cai (Asteraceae) differs from I.beauverdianum in having plant stoloniferous, basal leaves dimorphic, involucre 8‒10 mm long, inner phyllaries 8, and florets 7‒10. Paraphlomissetulosa C.Y.Wu & H.W.Li (Lamiaceae) was reviewed and morphological characters of the corolla and stamens of its type and the specimens collected in the field survey were critically examined. With barbate anthers and strongly divergent anther cells, Paraphlomissetulosa was transferred to Sinopogonanthera, and S.setulosa (C.Y.Wu & H.W.Li) H.W.Zhang & X.F.Jin was consequently combined.

Abstract:Three new species, Myrothecium bacilliforme, M. biforme and M. macrosporum, and one new variety, M. ad‐ vena var. terricola from soils of China are reported. A key to 12 species and varieties of Myrothecium known from soils in China are provided. Holotypes, all other specimens(dried cultures) and living cultures examined are deposited in the Herbarium of Shandong Agricultural University: Plant Pathology(HSAUP). Isotypes(dried cultures) are kept in HMAS.

Abstract:Penicillium species are ubiquitous in the environment and are of substantial importance, especially in industrial and medical aspects. During our investigation of the biodiversity of Penicillium, three new species were discovered in soil samples collected from East and Northeast China. They were determined as new to science based on morphological comparisons and phylogenetic analyses, and were found to belong to the subgenus Penicillium section Robsamsonia and subgenus Aspergilloides sections Aspergilloides and Citrina. Descriptions and illustrations of these species are provided, and their geographic distributions are also discussed.

Abstract:Collection of three sexual morphic fungal species occurring on the leaf surface of three plant species (Dalbergia obtusifolia, Syzygium fluviatile and Ziziphus mauritiana) collected in Yunnan Province, China, have shown that they are morphologically distinct. Phylogenetic analyses of partial sequences of internal transcribed spacer region (ITS) and large subunit rDNA (LSU) placed the three species in Trichomerium (Trichomeriaceae) but are sufficiently different from all known species. Therefore, three new species, Trichomerium multisetosum, T. xishuangbannaense and T. yunnanense are described with detailed, illustrated descriptions and notes.

Abstract:The phylogenetic studies of the tribe Alsineae ( Caryophyllaceae ) have revealed a clearer boundary between the genus Stellaria and related genera, primarily relying on the morphological characteristics of style 3, stamens 10 and petals deeply bifid. However, the newly-published species in China, which have 5 styles or ten or more lobes per petal, challenge this boundary and necessitate further studies. In this paper, we reviewed six newly-published Chinese species of Stellaria , utilising both molecular phylogenetic evidence from nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer ( ITS ) and four plastid regions ( trnL-F , matK , rbcL , rps16 ) and morphological evidence. Our results demonstrated that the five new species ( Stellaria abaensis , S. multipartita , S. pentastyla , S. procumbens and S. zhuxiensis ) were nested within the genus Stellaria , but Stellaria motuoensis was sister to the genus Schizotechium . Herein, we accepted four new Stellaria species and proposed a new combination in Schizotechium and a new synonym in Stellaria . Additionally, we described a new species Stellaria longipedicellata from Sichuan Province, China, which was distinguished from the closely-related species Stellaria decumbens by its glabrous body, linear-lanceolate leaves, long pedicellate flowers, prostrate growth habit and flowers nearly equal to or slightly shorter than sepals. Both molecular and morphological evidence support the treatment of S. longipedicellata as a new species of the genus Stellaria .

Abstract:Two Paramyrothecium and seven Albifimbria strains belonging to Stachybotryaceae were isolated from soil samples in Guizhou Province, China. The Paramyrothecium strains produced smaller conidia with rounded apices at both ends. Morphological description and comparison based on combined ITS+tub2+CAL gene phylogenetic analysis for Paramyrothecium group and ITS+tub2+CAL+rpb2 combined analysis for the Albifimbria group were used to identify these fungi. The results indicate that Paramyrothecium hydei is new to science, while Albifimbria terrestris and A. verrucaria are new records for China.

Abstract:Stictidaceae is characterised by a wide geographic distribution and diverse ecological roles. It has recently been the focus of taxonomic research in China. In this study, we describe two new asexual Stictidaceae species that we presume to be saprobes: Glomerobolus poacearum and Ostropomyces yunnanensis . The specimens were collected from decaying stems of unidentified herbaceous and Poaceae hosts in the Yunnan Dashanbao Black-necked Crane National Nature Reserve, China. Our approach combines morphological and multi-locus phylogenetic analysis, utilising LSU, ITS, mtSSU and rpb 2 markers. Glomerobolus poacearum sp. nov., was collected on decayed aquatic grass stems. In our phylogeny, it forms a well-supported clade with G . gelineus, the type of the genus. The species differs from G . gelineus in having comparatively smaller hyphoma, lobes and ballistic propagules that are spherical or fan-shaped when swollen. The discovery of Glomerobolus poacearum on Poaceae species within China are new observations of plant associates and geographical distribution in the genus. Ostropomyces yunnanensis sp. nov., was collected on a stem of a herbaceous plant. In our phylogenetic analysis, it forms a well-supported clade with G . gelineus , the type species of the genus and is characterised by the production of conidiomata with forcible discharge. Ostropomyces yunnanensis is distinguishable from the asexual morph of O . pruinosellus by possessing larger pycnidial conidiomata, which feature multiple locules of conical or irregular shapes and by having larger conidia that are 0–4-septate. These taxonomic contributions enrich our understanding of the diversity, evolutionary relationships and ecological interactions within Stictidaceae .

Abstract:Three new species of Meliola collected in China, Meliola daphniphyllicola parasitic on Daphniphyllum paxianum (Daphniphyllaceae), Meliola eriolaenicola on Eriolaena sp.(Sterculiaceae) and Meliola stixis on Stixis suaveolens (Capparidaceae) are reported. Latin, English diagnoses and illustrations of the new species are presented. Type specimens examined are deposited in the Herbarium of Guangdong Institute of Microbiology (HMIGD), Guangzhou and in the Herbarium Mycologicum Academiae Sinicae (HMAS), Beijing.

Abstract:Three new Stenus species of the indubius group from Sichuan Province, West-Central China, are described: S. zhuxiaoyui Tang, sp. nov., S. pectorifossatus Tang. sp. nov. and S. erlangshanus Tang, sp. nov. Diagnostic characters are illustrated and a key to Chinese species of this group is provided. The conflict between classifications of Stenus based on subgenera and species groups is briefly discussed. All three new species have diagnostic characters of the subgenus Hemistenus.

Abstract:Sporidesmiella rosae sp. nov., S. machili sp. nov., and S. archidendri sp. nov., occurring, respectively, on dead branches of Rosa chinensis, Machilus grijsii, and Archidendron clypearia, were collected from subtropical forests in southern China. They are described, illustrated, and compared with similar taxa. A dichotomous key to Sporidesmiella species is provided.

Abstract:In this study, we have found two new species— Stropharia subrugosoannulata and Stropharia microaeruginosa . Phylogenetic analyses, based on the internal transcribed spacer regions ( ITS ) and the nuclear ribosomal RNA gene ( nrLSU ), suggest that the two new species are distinct and monophyletic. S. subrugosoannulata is distinguished from other species of the genus Stropharia by the pileus covered with greyish-orange squamules in the centre, stipe light brown and surface covered with white triangular squamules. S. microaeruginosa differs from other species in its pileus bluish-grey when young becoming lighter towards margins, later greyish-turquoise lightens towards the edges and surface radially striate when young, lamellae adnate to subdecurrent, stipe with white squamules at the base, acanthocytes absent. The new record species from Jilin Province, Clitolyophyllum umbilicatum was also confirmed, based on morphological and molecular study. Here, we have given full descriptions of each species, colour images, illustrations and two phylogenetic trees that show the placement and relationship of the two new species and the new record are provided.

Abstract:Three new species of the genus Stenohya Beier, 1967 from China are described: Stenohya gibba sp. nov. and S. papillata sp. nov. from Hunan Province, and S. guangmingensis sp. nov. from Jiangxi Province. In addition to their sexually dimorphic pedipalp, these three new species also have a uniquely sexual dimorphic leg I, which has not been reported in other Stenohya species. Additionally, an updated key to the Chinese Stenohya species is provided.

Abstract:Cyanosporus is a cosmopolitan genus characterized by effused-reflexed to pileate basidiomata with a bluish tint and allantoid to cylindrical basidiospores which are negative to weakly positive in Melzer's reagent and Cotton Blue, causing a brown rot. Three new species of Cyanosporus, namely, C.linzhiensis, C.miscanthi and C.tabuliformis are described and illustrated. Phylogenies on Cyanosporus are reconstructed with seven loci DNA sequences including ITS, nLSU, nSSU, mtSSU, RPB1, RPB2 and TEF1 based on phylogenetic analyses combined with morphological examination. The description for the new species is given. The main morphological characteristics of all 38 accepted species in Cyanosporus are summarized.
