Abstract:The status of the isoscaling analysis has been simply reviewed and the corresponding information on the extraction of the symmetry energy is discussed. We discuss the secondary decay effect on isoscaling parameter, the excitation energy and density dependences of the symmetry energy.

Abstract:Isoscaling properties of the primary and final products are studied via isospin dependent quantum molecular dynamics (IQMD) model and the followed sequential decay model GEMINI, respectively. Both primary and final products isoscaling parameter α keeps no significant change for light fragments, but increases with the mass for intermediate and heavy products. The dynamical effect on isoscaling is reflected on the α decreasing a little with the evolution time of the system, and opposite trend for the heavy products. The secondary decay effect on isoscaling is reflected on the increasing of the α value for the final products which experienced secondary decay process. Furthermore the density dependence of the symmetry energy has also been explored for the primary and secondary products, the symmetry energy coefficient can be expressed by the form of Csym(ρ) ~ C0(ρ/ρ0)γ, C0 and γ extracted from the primary products are consistent with the input parameters, but C0 and γ extracted from the final products deviate the input values. In the paper we also suggest that it might be more reasonable to describe the density dependence of the symmetry energy coefficient by the Csym(ρ/ρ0) ≈ C1(ρ/ρ0)γsoft + C2(ρ/ρ0)γstiff with γsoft ≤ 1, γstiff ≥ 1 and C1, C2 constant parameters.

Abstract:Using different parameterizations of the nuclear mass formula, we study the sensitivity of the isoscaling parameters to the mass formula employed in grand-canonical calculations. Previous works on isoscaling have suggested that the symmetry energy implied in such calculations is anomalously smaller than that suggested by fits to nuclear masses. We show that surface corrections to the symmetry energy naturally broadens the isotopic distribution thus allowing for values of the symmetry energy which more closely match those obtained from nuclear masses.

Abstract:This paper summarizes the isoscaling and isospin related studies in asymmetry nuclear reactions by different dynamic and statistical models. Isospin dependent quantum molecular dynamics model (IQMD) and lattice gas model (LGM) are used to study the isoscaling properties and isoscaling parameters dependence on incident energies, impact parameters, temperature and other parameters. In the LGM model, the signal of phase transition has been found in free neutron (proton) chemical potential difference Δµ n or Δµ p as a function of temperature, or in free neutron and proton chemical potential difference Δµ n −Δµ p . Density dependence of symmetry energy coefficient C sym ( ρ / ρ 0 ) is also studied in the frame of LGM, with the potential parameters which can reproduce the nuclear ground state property, soft density dependence of symmetry energy is deduced from the simulation results. Giant dipole resonance (GDR) induced by isospin asymmetry in entrance channel is also studied via IQMD model, and the dynamic dipole resonance shows isospin sensitivity on the isospin asymmetry of entrance channel and symmetry energy of the nuclear equation of state (EOS). GDR can also be regarded as a possible isospin sensitive signature.
Influence of Statistical Sequential Decay on Isoscaling and Symmetry Energy Coefficient in A Gemini Simulation

Abstract:Extensive calculations on isoscaling behavior with the sequential-decay model gemini are performed for the medium-to-heavy nuclei in the mass range A = 60-120 at excitation energies up to 3 MeV/nucleon. The comparison between the products after the first-step decay and the ones after the entire-steps decay demonstrates that there exists a strong sequential decay effect on the final isoscaling parameters and the apparent temperature. Results show that the apparent symmetry energy coefficient $\gamma_{app}$ does not reflect the initial symmetry energy coefficient $C_{sym}$ embedded in the mass calculation in the present GEMINI model.

Abstract:The isoscaling behaviour is investigated in a frame of isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamics models. The isotopic yields ratio Y-2/Y-1 for reactions Ca-48+Ca-48 and Ca-40+Ca-40 at different entrance channels are simulated and presented, the relationship between the isoscaling parameter and the entrance channel is analysed, the results show that alpha and beta reduce with the rise of incident energies and increase with the impact parameter b, which can be attributed to the temperature varying of the pre-fragments in different entrance channels. The relation of a and symmetry-term coefficient C-sym reveals that the chemical potential difference Deltamu is sensitive to the symmetry-term coefficient C-sym, and raises with the increasing C-sym.

Isoscaling in statistical fragment emission in an extended compound nucleus model

Abstract:Based on an extended compound nucleus model, isospin effects in statistical fragment emission from excited nuclear systems are investigated. An experimentally observed scaling behavior of the ratio of isotope yields $Y_i(N,Z)$ from two similar emitting sources with different neutron-to-proton ratios is predicted theoretically, i.e., the relationship of $Y_2/Y_1 \propto exp(\alpha N + \beta Z)$ is demonstrated. The symmetry energy coefficient $C_{sym}$ extracted from the simulation results is $\sim$ 27 MeV which is consistent with realistic theoretical estimates and recent experimental data. The influence of the surface entropy on the isoscaling behavior is discussed in detail. It is found that although the surface entropy increases the numercial values of isoscaling parameters $\alpha$ and $\beta$, it does not affect the isoscaling behavior qualitatively and has only a minor effect on the extracted symmetry energy coefficient.

Abstract:The fission processes of Sn-112+Sn-112 and Sn-116+Sn-116 are simulated with the combination of the Langevin equation and the statistical decay model. The masses of two fission fragments are given by assuming the process of symmetric fission or asymmetric fission by Monte Carlo sampling with the Gaussian probability distribution. From the analysis of the isotopic/isotonic ratios of the fission fragments from both reactions, the isoscaling behavior has been observed and investigated in detail. Isoscaling parameters alpha and beta are extracted as a function of the charge number and neutron number, respectively, in different widths of the sampling Gaussian probability distribution. It seems that alpha is sensitive to the width of fission probability distribution of the mass asymmetrical parameter, but beta is not. Both alpha and beta drop with increasing beam energy and reduced friction parameter.

Abstract:Historically, isoscaling has often been understood and applied under the grand canonical ensemble, assuming that the fragments are produced after the statistical equilibrium state is achieved. However, the influence of the symmetry energy may lead to differences in the neutron and density distribution in neutron-rich nuclei, potentially impacting the isoscaling parameters (usually denoted by and . We study the isoscaling properties for neutron-rich fragments produced in very asymmetric systems on inverse kinematics, namely Ca and Ni + Be at 140 MeV per nucleon. We evaluate the and value and sort them as a function of the neutron excess . The significant differences in extracted from fragments within different range of emphasize the importance of understanding the isoscaling parameters dependence of fragments produced in different collision regions. Furthermore, the value for a specific fragment in small size and highly isospin asymmetry systems can serve as a probe to detect the variations of neutron density and proton density in different regions of the nucleus and point out the limitations of theoretical models in investigating these issues.

Abstract:It is shown that the experimentally observed decrease of nuclear symmetry energy with increasing centrality or excitation energy in isotopic scaling analyses of heavy-ion reactions can be well understood analytically within a degenerate Fermi gas model. The evolution of the symmetry energy is found to be mainly due to the variation in the freeze-out density rather than temperature. The isoscaling analyses are useful for probing the interaction part of the nuclear symmetry energy, provided that both the freeze-out temperature and density of the fragments can be inferred simultaneously from the experiments.

Abstract:The isospin effect and isoscaling behavior in projectile fragmentation have been systematically investigated by a modified statistical abrasion-ablation (SAA) model. The normalized peak differences and reduced isoscaling parameters are found to decrease with ($Z_{proj}-Z$)/$Z_{proj}$ or the excitation energy per nucleon and have no significant dependence on the size of reaction systems. Assuming a Fermi-gas behavior, the excitation energy dependence of the symmetry energy coefficients are tentatively extracted from $\alpha$ and $\beta$ which looks consistent with the experimental data. It is pointed out that the reduced isoscaling parameters can be used as an observable to study excitation extent of system and asymmetric nuclear equation of state in heavy ion collisions.

Abstract:In this paper, the beta(-)-, 2 beta(-)-, and 4 beta(-)-decay energies Q(beta(-)), Q(2 beta(-)), and Q(4 beta(-)) given in the newly updated atomic mass evaluation (AME2016) are used to systematically constrain not only the quadratic symmetry energy coefficient csym v kappa=cym s/c sym v <i, but also the quartic symmetry energy coefficient c sym, 4 v <i. Based on the modified Bethe-Weizsacker mass formula, the decay energies Q(beta(-)), Q(2 beta(-)), and Q(4 beta(-)) are all derived to be closely related to the quantities c sym v <i , kappa, and c sym 4 v <i, and then their values can be obtained by fitting the decay energies given in the AME2016. Besides, with the extracted values of c sym kappa, by applying the relationship between the quadratic density-dependent symmetry energy S(rho) and the mass-dependent symmetry energy coefficient of finite nuclei a(sym)(A), the density slopes L(rho(0)) for two different forms of S(rho) at the saturation density rho(0) are constrained and the values are calculated to be L(rho(0)) = 42.2 8.0 MeV and L(rho(0)) = 42.8 7.6 MeV, respectively.

Abstract:By using the Hugenholtz–Van Hove (HVH) theorem, the symmetry potential in asymmetric nuclear matter is found to be closely related to symmetry energy Esym(ρ) and its density slope L(ρ). The energy dependence of symmetry potential at saturation density ρ0 is extracted by using recent constraints on both Esym(ρ0) and L(ρ0) from different methods not only in nuclear structures and reactions but also in astrophysics. The extracted symmetry potentials from different methods are found to be generally consistent with each other. By averaging all extracted symmetry potentials, an energy-dependent form of symmetry potential at the saturation density is obtained, which could be useful to calibrate the single-particle potentials in mean-field models of structures and transport models of reactions.

Abstract:The symmetry energy effects on the nuclear disintegration mechanisms of the neutron-rich system (A(0) = 200, Z(0) = 78) are studied in the framework of the statistical multifragmentation model (SMM) within its micro-canonical ensemble. A modified symmetry energy term with consideration of the volume and surface asymmetry is adopted instead of the original invariable value in the standard SMM model. The results indicate that as the volume and surface asymmetries are considered, the neutron-rich system translates to a fission-like process from evaporation earlier than the original standard SMM model at lower excitation energies, and its mass distribution has larger probabilities in the medium-heavy nuclei range so that the system breaks up more averagely. When the excitation energy becomes higher, the volume and surface asymmetry lead to a smaller average multiplicity.

Abstract:Within two different frameworks of isospin-dependent transport model, effect of nuclear symmetry energy at supradensities on the isospin-fractionation (IsoF) was investigated. With positive/negative symmetry potential at supradensities (i.e., values of symmetry energy increase/decrease with density above saturation density), for energetic nucleons, the value of neutron to proton ratio of free nucleons is larger/smaller than that of bound nucleon fragments. Compared with extensively studied quantitative observables of nuclear symmetry energy, the normal or abnormal isospin-fractionation of energetic nucleons can be a qualitative probe of nuclear symmetry energy at supradensities.
Relationship between the symmetry energy and the single-nucleon potential in isospin-asymmetric nucleonic matter

Abstract:In this contribution, we review the most important physics presented originally in our recent publications. Some new analyses, insights and perspectives are also provided. We showed recently that the symmetry energy $E_{sym}(\rho)$ and its density slope $L(\rho)$ at an arbitrary density $\rho$ can be expressed analytically in terms of the magnitude and momentum dependence of the single-nucleon potentials using the Hugenholtz-Van Hove (HVH) theorem. These relationships provide new insights about the fundamental physics governing the density dependence of nuclear symmetry energy. Using the isospin and momentum (k) dependent MDI interaction as an example, the contribution of different terms in the single-nucleon potential to the $E_{sym}(\rho)$ and $L(\rho)$ are analyzed in detail at different densities. It is shown that the behavior of $E_{sym}(\rho)$ is mainly determined by the first-order symmetry potential $U_{sym,1}(\rho,k)$ of the single-nucleon potential. The density slope $L(\rho)$ depends not only on the first-order symmetry potential $U_{sym,1}(\rho,k)$ but also the second-order one $U_{sym,2}(\rho,k)$. Both the $U_{sym,1}(\rho,k)$ and $U_{sym,2}(\rho,k)$ at normal density $\rho_0$ are constrained by the isospin and momentum dependent nucleon optical potential extracted from the available nucleon-nucleus scattering data. The $U_{sym,2}(\rho,k)$ especially at high density and momentum affects significantly the $L(\rho)$, but it is theoretically poorly understood and currently there is almost no experimental constraints known.

Abstract:The effect of short-range and tensor correlations on nuclear symmetry energy is investigated by using realistic nuclear momentum distribution n(k). For finite nuclei, the n(k) is discussed in detail within an analytical model that allows inclusion of both short-range and tensor correlation effects in a physically very transparent way. The equation of state of symmetric nuclear matter is calculated by using realistic n(k) parameterization. The tensor-force induced short-range correlations are shown to have a significant impact on the behavior of symmetry energy.

Abstract:The nuclear matter symmetry energy C-sym(rho) and its slope parameter L are studied using local density approximation. With this method, the symmetry energy of nuclear matter can be deduced from matter density distributions of finite nuclei. By systematically analyzing the extracted L for different isotopes, the variation trends of values of extracted L along isotopic chains can be obtained. The study can explain why the neutron rich nuclei in isotopic chains such as Pb-208 can be used to extract L under local density approximation. By studying the regularity of extracted L for different isotopic chains, we finally obtain the value of L and its error bar: L = 66 +/- 7 MeV. Besides, the density dependence parameter gamma is constrained to be 0.69 +/- 0.07 for the ansatz of symmetry energy C-sym(rho) = C-sym(rho(0))(rho/rho(0))(gamma).

Abstract:Isospin effect of the statistical emission fragments from the equilibrated source is investigated in the frame of statistical binary decay implemented into the GEMINI code, isoscaling behavior is observed and the dependences of isoscaling parameters alpha and beta on emission fragment size, source size, source isospin asymmetry and excitation energies are studied. Results show that alpha and beta neither depends on light fragment size nor on source size. A good linear dependence of alpha and beta on the inverse of temperature T is manifested and the relationship of alpha=4C(sym)[(Z(s)/A(s))(1)(2)-(Z(s)/A(s))(2)(2)]/T and beta=4C(sym)[(N-s/A(s))(1)(2)-(N-s/A(s))(2)(2)]/T from different isospin asymmetry sources is satisfied. The symmetry energy coefficient C-sym extracted from simulation results is similar to 23 MeV which includes both the volume and surface term contributions, of which the surface effect seems to play a significant role in the symmetry energy.
