Adrenal Neurilemmoma: Report of 4 Cases with Literature Review

Abstract:Purpose To study the clinical characteristics,the imaging and pathology features of the neurilemmoma arising from the adrenal area,with which to direct clinical treatment. Methods We analyzed clinical data of 4 cases without any special symptoms and abnormal laboratory examination,in which a retroperitoneal mass had been thought to be adenoma of adrenal gland or pheochromocytomas based on computed tomography. Results Excision of the masses were performed in all cases.A pathological examination showed an Antoni-A predominant-type benign neurilemmoma.The available literature on adrenal neurilemmoma was then discussed. Conclusions Although be rare,adrenal neurilemmoma must be considered in the differential diagnosis of any adrenal masses.CT and MRI have suggestive features but can not provide unequivocal diagnosis.Despite the benign pathology of the majority of these lesions,literature supports excision in most cases.
