Abstract:Objective: To estimate the risk of HIV behavior among Wuhan men who have sex with men (MSM). Methods: A total of 96 MSM were surveyed in some gay-identified clubs in Wuhan city in May, 2005 and completed questionnaires about their sexual behavior and the knowledge about AIDS risk. Results: Of all men surveyed, 41.7% were at age from 21 to 30; 95.8% got a senior high school degree or above. And most men surveyed were students, company employees and government employees. Of MSM, 50.0% MSM had female partners and 13.5% had more than one female partner in their lives before. 44.8% MSM reported at which they the age that had sex with a man firstly was 16-18 years old. Sexually transmitted disease was reported by only 8.3% of the men. Of all men surveyed, 67.7% had unprotected anal sex in the past six months, 38.5% did not use condom in the last anal sex. And consistent condom use was reported by only 32.3% of the men. Their knowledge about AIDS risk and critical HIV risk-reduction steps was limited. Only 36.5% of the men surveyed detected HIV. Logistic analysis showed that high risk behavior was predicted by young age, limited knowledge about AIDS risk, and low education level. Conclusion: To avert a widespread epidemic, HIV prevention interventions for Wuhan MSM were critically needed.
