Abstract:It is urgent for modern society to save energy and protect environment. But the efficiency of traditional lighting equipment which occupies a rather high proportion of total electric load is very low. Now, they are more and more instead by power electronics based devices, such as energy-saving lamps or LED lamps. For the different characteristics from that of traditional devices, the new kind of lighting equipment may have uncertain influence to power grid. Firstly, their topologies and control schemes are studied and analyzed. Then, the general models, which are suitable for simulation analysis, are proposed. After that, the simulation study and physical experiment are carried on respectively. It is revealed and manifested that the characteristics of both energy-saving lamp and LED lamp are quite different from that of traditional lamps, and may have adverse impact on the safety and stability of power grid.

Abstract:A software platform was built to simulate the distribution of LED's light intensity. Starting with lighting mechanism of LED, we, used theory of geometry optics and physic optics to finish our work successfully, and at the same time, we did some testing as well. We simulated several common LEDs and compared results of the. simulation of different types. By doing so, some useful conclusions about the relationship between LED's valid illumination distance and radiation angle were found.

Abstract:The Study in question is contained within the National Natural Funds project the "preservation of lighting environment of traditional Chinese architecture". It seeks to define the object of the grand study. With the dissertations on "lighting prototype of architecture" as fundamental support, we can establish a filter mechanism, "domain of types", in order to determine the position and type of every traditional building by factors such as "functional prototype", "orientation" or "day-lighting system". Then, we can arrange the priority for investigation, survey, evaluation and preservation.

Abstract:As a rapid developing solid state lighting, light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have great potential in application of road lighting, but their performance evaluation in a long term are still lacked. In situ and laboratory measurements were conducted for the purpose of comparing the characteristic parameters and lighting performance of three kinds of street lamps: LEDs, high pressure sodium (HPS) lamps and ceramic discharge metal halide (CDM) lamps. The results of laboratory measurements in 2000 hours show the three kinds of lamps have almost the same initial luminaire efficacy, which lead to the average road illuminance is proportion to the lamp power. The results of road illuminance distribution measurements in 3000 hours show LEDs have better color rendering index, longitudinal uniformity of illuminance, and maintenance of road illuminance than HPS and CDM lamps.

Abstract:With the accelerating of urbanization, China’s urban landscape lighting is developing rapidly. But as it is still in the growth stage, there appears blind lighting, disorderly construction and many other problems.Therefore, learning from foreign experiences is beneficial for the health and orderly development of China’s landscape lighting’s future.Based on the summary of foreign landscape lighting construction mode and operation mechanism, and the objective and reasonable understanding on landscape lighting’s contributions, combined with actual conditions of China’s landscape lighting development, the paper carries an analysis from the aspects of construction and management system, mechanism and funds.Following city operation and management principles, we study and formulate a long-term operating mechanism of urban landscape lighting suitable for China, in order to ensure sustainable development of China’s urban landscape lighting’s construction and management.

Abstract:The early contributions of ancient China to optics predate those of Euclid, but are little known in the west. During the Warring States period, 2400 years ago in China, Mo Zi, a philosopher, thinker and scientist, stated explicitly the concepts of linear optics: the straight line propagation of light, reflection of light by planar, concave and convex mirrors, and the pinhole camera. Refraction of light was also discovered then, and the refractive index of water was measured to be 1.25, which is very close to the modern value of 1.33. These are recorded in the Book of Mo Zi. In the early Western Han Dynasty, Liu An, King of Huai-Nan, also compiled several works, where novel optical devices are mentioned, such as burning glasses made of ice, and the world's first surveillance periscope.

The article explores the design ideas on the decorative art of Huizhou ancient folk houses through formation and development of the decorative style, decorative characteristics, adornment subjects and decorative crafts. Based on it, the article excavates modern significance and value of the decorative art of Huizhou ancient folk houses, trying to get some references and enlightenments on modern architectural decorative design.

Abstract:Traditional Chinese lanterns were invented during the Eastern Han Dynasty and were originally intended to be sources of light. To most Chinese people, traditional Chinese lanterns represent joy, good fortune & social status. However, they are decreasing in popularity and most Malaysian young Chinese regard them as a dispensable decorative item for festivals. The usage of traditional Chinese hanging lantern is on the decline – studies have shown that the advent of modern lighting technology has thrown the production and useage of traditional Chinese lantern into crisis and turned it into an obsolete product. Through content analysis, researchers evaluated the current situation and explored the issues surrounding traditional Chinese hanging lanterns among young Chinese people. Results indicated that Malaysian young Chinese gradually lost interest in traditional Chinese hanging lanterns due to the lack of enthusiasm towards inherited Chinese culture and an increase in available exotic lighting accessories. This study may serve as a supplementary reference in the research and development of new cultural products, providing other researchers with a clearer direction to make their work easier and faster.
