A Conformal Scheme for Modeling Curved Dispersive Medium Objects Compatible with ADE-FDTD (2, 4) Method

Abstract:In this letter, an accurate conformal technique based on area-averaged scheme has been proposed to mitigate the staircase error associated of auxiliary differential equation (ADE) FDTD (2, 4) method. This method utilizes an effective average complex permittivity, which is obtained through area averages of various dielectric in nine related spatial cells intersected by curved surfaces, to modify the magnetic field updating equations in ADE FDTD (2, 4) method. The frequency domain results of a multi-layer sphere filled with different dispersive media demonstrate outright consistency with the finite element method (FEM) using fine meshes. Furthermore, the proposed method is used successfully in analyzing the specific absorption rate (SAR) distribution of a complex human head model, and the simulation results also exhibits its good effectiveness and applicability.
