Abstract:Accurately and efficiently assessing dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) comprehensive performance is a critical aspect of hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) development. As a widely used energy management evaluation method for DHT, dynamic programming (DP) can ensure that the energy utilization is globally optimal under a given driving cycle, but it is time intensive. In this study, a near-global optimal method called vehicle speed- power requirement-working mode-based rapid analysis method (SPMRA) is proposed to quickly evaluate the energy utilization performance of a series-parallel hybrid transmission (SPHT). Consequently, when different parameters are combined to form a large-scale candidate design scheme, the energy management evaluation time of each design scheme is shortened from 550 s to 0.35 s, and the computational efficiency is significantly improved. Furthermore, the calculation process of SPMRA is introduced in detail. Compared with DP, the effectiveness of SPMRA is verified via simulation; the results show that the fuel consumption of SPMRA are near-globally optimal, the average error is controlled around 1.23%, and the computing efficiency is increased by approximately 1,571 times. Additionally, a comprehensive performance evaluation of 236,196 design schemes comprising 11 types of design variables is performed using SPMRA. Furthermore, the influence of different design variables on SPHT comprehensive performance is assessed and a sensitivity analysis is performed. Among the design variables, the thermal efficiency of the engine has the most significant influence on the fuel consumption of SPHT. Notably, different design variables interact with each other, e.g., the characteristic parameters of the engine and generator and the matching of the gear ratio between them affect the performance of energy utilization. Based on SPMRA, engineers can improve the design evaluation efficiency and shorten the DHT of the HEV design lifecycle.
